Pruitt about to land an epic recruiting class...

I’m on page 3 reading this but you sound like a jerk. Really. You do. “Oh, hogg88 isn’t impressed. What will we do?”
You actually said he could do better at teaching tackling?? Tackling?? Really? At a D1, SEC school, our HEAD COACH is supposed to teach a player how to tackle?? Are you serious? Now, is that before or after “how to run” and “Breathing in and out” class? Good lord. Taking good angles, wrapping up and hitting up and out are all basics that have been taught to these guys since they played on your middle school team and I assure you their lack of execution isn’t because JP hasn’t taught them how as it is them being able and committed to execute what they know.

Fundamentals need to be taught and practiced everyday! Pruitt can coach and develope players and fundamentals is the biggest part of his process. If you don't bad habits start popping up.
I guantee you Saben's practices include tackling everyday. We are tackling better this year but when you lack in depth tired players start to reverting back to bad habits.

Coaching football is coaching football, different levels means bigger faster players with more experience so you can install more complicated schemes. But in the end it all comes down to fundamentals and if you can't coach fundamentals you are not a good football coach. It's easy to win when you have the biggest, fastest and best players.

CJP may very well turn out to be the greatest thing since sliced bread and I'm pulling for him but so far he simply has not impressed me much.

So even after playing HS football, guys in college need to be taught how to tackle, block, protect the ball and catch? Lol. Yeah ok. Lets blame it all on the coaches. Man this ridiculous argument is getting old.

Have you ever watched hard knocks on HBO? Even in the NFL they stress tackling technique at practice. You never stop teaching fundamentals at any level.

Yes I am a jerk thak you and if it makes me a bigger jerk because I don’t worship a coach simply because he’s at UT then so be it. I’m still in a wait and see mode with CJP and I’m rooting for the guy.

I said you sound like one. I don’t know you well enough to call you an actual jerk. 👊🏼

I haven’t watched a single episode of Hard Knocks. Here’s my point. It’s a college coaches job to emphasize fundamentals and teach techniques. If you don’t know the basics of tackling you don’t deserve to play at this level. Maybe we’re saying the same thing but in a different way. Either way, we can both agree that our boys need to play better on defense. 👊🏼

Here's the problem, there are way too many (maybe even a majority now) HS coaches that are terrible at or just don't emphasize fundamentals such as tackling. Many D1 recruits are simply freak atheletes who have gotten by on their athletic ability alone so it's up to college coaches to fix their techniques. Heck just look at the piss poor QB classes coming up, that's one of the reasons the spread offense is becoming so prevalent. HS coaches can't/won't teach QB skills so they put one of their best athelets who can throw in the spread as QB and let them improvise.

Yeah, I'm a jerk.

That’s a huge assumption. Throwing every HS coach into the same box is ridiculous and doesn’t add to your attempt to prove a point. It just makes you look-like a jerk. I like debate when facts and proof are a part of it. What you’re saying is not debate, it’s whining and complaining. Skepticism is good, cynicism is stupid. Carry on. We’ll agree to disagree. 👊🏼

I'm not throwing shade at every HS coach but there is a ton of them that fit that bill. Start going if you're not already to some HS games in your area, you'll see.

Why are you being such a jerk?

Maybe so. And I apologize if it sounds like I’m calling you out. I’m not meaning to. There’s been a good debate over the past few weeks on who’s to blame and I lean on the side of the players being at fault most of the time.
I’m sure there’s some bad coaches out there and I know the “Vince Young affect” is a real thing. Tons of guys make it from pop Warner all the way to the NFL by out-athleting everyone. My only counterpoint is at some point, THEY have to take ownership of their weaknesses. Because if they don’t, they will become like VY and never live up to their true potential. Again, I apologize if I ended up sounding like a jerk. 👊🏼

No need to apologize, I am a jerk.

IMO and mine alone, the pressure to win (be it internal because coach's kid is on the team or what) all the way down to the rec level is destroying football.

Lol.

Well, my kids have played travel baseball and soccer (still do) and I’m noticing a major difference in them just by being a part of a club that emphasizes fundamentals over and over and over again. My son hated it in the beginning of the season but we’re seeing a major difference in his play for his school team. Fundamentals are vital and if they aren’t being taught early, will ruin a kids chances at college. Have a good one Hogg.

Our last commit was in August, we need some momentum here! Ill take one Darnell Wright pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

The class is pretty much full. The last few remaining spots probably are reserved for the elite guys and they are not gonna go public anytime soon.

i would say you can probably expect some movement in our current class over the next couple months. as it stands right now we don't have a ton of spots, but we're recruiting, heavily, a number of guys that we wouldn't have room for if all things remain equal.

and to your point, they all are either flip candidates or prettty highly rated, so i wouldnt expect to see any committments anytime soon either.

and lastly, if/when you hear about some kids decommitting or flipping committments from our class, i wouldn't freak out about it....1/2 the class we have committed right now are all takes. the other half, i'd say there's gonna be some movement with 2 or 3 of them.

I could substitute “Kiffen” or “Dooley” or “Butch” for Pruitt and it would describe the program for the past decade

Always the dog chasing its tail.

Until we find a coach that can develop players on the field, we are going to continue to be talking about next year.
🙄🙄🙄

He’s shown some encouraging signs but he sure hasn’t shown much. 8 games in and we still have way too many mental errors. Mental errors are not talent related.

Have you ever thought that maybe the players causing the mental errors are not football intelligent enough to absorb the coaching? Or, just maybe those players really don't give their all for Tennessee (Players recruited by Botch Jones).

Has a bunch of guys that want to play together for Pruitt and his staff

These guys apparently like each other and love some Rocky Top !
No offense but what exactly is "Epic" about it?....Got some decent players coming in but nothing that sets the world on fire to the point people are losing their minds over it...He needs a lot more than what he's got to make a difference so we'll see how he does down the stretch...Hoping for the best.

on the whole it's not. it's good, very good really.

but if you're looking for what is epic about it, i'd direct you to the OL portion of this class....

Which will have little impact on the team's performance until the 2020 season at the earliest.

so? and i'd be willing to wager that if we do get Wright, to go with Morris, they'll both see the field plenty next season.

where is it written that if they aren't AA's as true freshmen that's some sort of failure?

No, our players are no dumber than the rest of the SEC.
