'25 Portal Thread

I was complaining about our lack of portal activity and recruiting towards the end of the season/this winter and got flamed over and over again. I kept saying Heup talking about competing for championships when we recruit and handle the portal like betas compared to other programs... Said we needed to reload at WR and make sure we have the best Oline in the SEC... Find someone to replace Sampson since we let Seldon leave (still extremely pissed we let him go)...

I said Danny and Heup need to decide if they want to take the next step and truly compete for a championship, they need to get with the game and go hard in the portal and on the trail and find the money to make it happen... "doing more with less" ain't gonna get it in this new style of college football... Unless we are willing to pull the trigger on kids, pay the money, and reload, then we aren't going to sniff the playoff anytime soon and will get left behind... get ready for 8 wins max and a nice bowl game...

Fast forward to April/May and look where we are...

Danny and Heup are at a crossroads right now... either we continue with the pace we are currently on and slide to the middle or low end of the SEC and hope for 7-8 wins and a bowl, or figure out a way to get the money needed to get the talent necessary to truly take that last step and have a roster that can beat anyone in the country. Looking like we just don't have the money to get it done or something is broken within the staff and recruiting...

Really sux that we got that close to sniffing the elite status, thinking we are really starting to "be back in the fold", but unfortunately that seems to have been a short-lived tease and we seem to be headed back to mid, while others are getting it done in the portal.

Not only WRs we're whiffing on. I don't think it's just money. I think opposing coaches have successfully painted a negative perception of our program, and recruits are believing it
I can believe that for offense but no way that would be true for DL. That’s laughable actually

I think it's more that the Coach's aren't promising anything. Even the Indiana LB that visited. He loved TN and was told there's playing time available but nothing is guaranteed. A lot of these players I'm sure are being promised playing time and starting. Just a guess

I don’t think you are wrong at all it’s not necessarily ALL on CJH. However, he’s got to go up the chain of command and demand more. You tell BOT and big spenders I’ve had 2 10 wins seasons here already I’m on the cusp give me more $.
Totally agree. Asking or even pushing for more money is a great idea. What’s the most they can do? Said no? I’ll be married 48 years in October, and being told no, doesn’t hurt like it use to😎

I've said it before, but Heupel needs to surround himself with better recruiters, RG is solid, and Heupel can get QB recruits. But he misses on a lot. The lack of depth in key positions is worrisome especially in the SEC. No matter who your QB is.

This is kind of where I’m leaning

It’s money and guaranteed roles.

18 players transferred to FSU after they went 2-10.
So fsu is able to land a lot of recruits after a 2-10 season but we made the cfp and are going on a 2 month dry spell, do you not see an issue with this?
