Search for Heupel on the UCF boards. Paints a relatively accurate picture. Sure there's some sour grapes, but there are some consistencies in the complaints. Now the question is....did he learn from those and adjust? Time will tell. It might be that he's not a big fan of the recruiting process and would be much better as just an OC? Or perhaps he's thrilled with what he has from recruiting and is rolling with those kids who've hung with the program in this era of the portal? Let's be honest, he'd rather cut off his nose than fire someone from his staff no matter how bad a job they do. I'm sure that same loyalty applies to "his recruits". I kind of see it as the Dabo approach. Will it work for us the way it works for them? Do we have the same level of evaluators and developers? I don't know but we're about to find out. Maybe Heupel is just sick and tired of the mercenary tactics and Nico/Nic have left a really foul taste in his mouth in regards to the portal? I mean, really, can you blame him? I'm just a fan and I'm disgusted by the entire process and couldn't give 2 squirts about the HS recruiting process and the games these kids play. Just look at how our own players are using social media to get their kicks watching fan reactions to their posts. The whole thing stinks. Nah, I can see a lot of reasons Heupel might not be relishing jumping whole heartedly into the cesspool known as the transfer portal.
I think Huepel is an excellent X’s and O’s coach and excels at doing more with less, and I am okay with him just focusing on that. But he is 100% going to have to hire a GM and surround himself with better recruiters if we are going to take the next step.

My 2 cents on CJH and portal.
Ive read in several places that OSU had a $20 million dollar plus roster, while UTs was around $11-14. Everyone wants to drive a Corvette but we’re on Chevette budget.
CJH wants a (WR-DT-CB) we offer $1.2-1.5 someone else offers $2 mill what’s CJH to do. Coaches, not just ours either, are limited by what their NIL budget can do. Plus CJH has an added obstacle of scholarship limits imposed by NCAA.
I’d like to see him operate with no limits in either place.
Just my 2 cents.
Maybe 3 schools are paying significantly higher than others, everyone else is at least in the same ballpark. Another thing to consider is that if you have great recruiters on staff that put tons of guys in the league, you may not have to pay quite as much to get the blue chippers on your roster.

Agree 100%, especially if he's going to continue to call plays. No way there's enouytime in the day to recruit, game plan, deal with portal( players leaving and coming) and NIL. Exactly why Ryan Day quit calling plays and why so many HC's are hiring GM's to take some of that off them. Unless he wants to turn the offense over to a veteran OC, which I doubt

I haven't kept up because of the draft and yard work... but wasn't there like 4 receivers potentially visiting?

None of them made it in?

Saw the BYU kid committed to Miami. Hurst decided to stick with Georgia State. Ny Carr with Miami. But there was another small school guy. What happened there? Did I miss anyone?

I forget his name, but the Mcneese guy is supposed to be here today, if he makes it in. He's in Oklahoma Fri, Vandy yesterday . OU supposedly went all in on him, Plus, he would have Matteer throwing to him. Hope he makes it in, but not holding my breath.

Haven't seen this brought up so I'll throw it out there.

We seem to be looking for mostly depth pieces in the portal. What happens if the depth players in the portal are asking for more than your starters are currently making? Or in case of the BYU receiver, Did Miami offer him more NIL than our currently highest paid WR? Is it worth bringing in the depth pieces if you risk ruining the locker room.

My guess is this is what has been happening this spring.

We were relevant during Botch years. Point is with our tradition, fscilities, alum base. We should never struggle to recruit.
no we weren’t.
But it’s nice to pretend though.
We’re seen as that school that had a fluke good year by most 20 year olds. Thats changing under CJH. And we don’t struggle to recruit. We just don’t consult you on who the priority is

Yeah and if you bring in a starter over Mike, Staley or Matthews then one of them bolts. Seems like they believe in those guys.

Definitely need to get Jakobe back and a DT. Just don't know what WR we could convince to come be a back up.

Too late now, they can't leave. We've still got the Mcneese WR coming in today.

Sounds like the Indiana LB enjoyed his visit and the USF DB that VQ mentioned to look out for. Possible that Golesh mentioned TN and Heupel. Just rumors of course on the USF DB. He'd be a helluva pick up, especially not knowing how McCoy will heal. Hopefully we can land all 3 and maybe a DL player too

I don’t think you are wrong at all it’s not necessarily ALL on CJH. However, he’s got to go up the chain of command and demand more. You tell BOT and big spenders I’ve had 2 10 wins seasons here already I’m on the cusp give me more $.

Portal recruiting is very different than HS recruiting. I think his HS recruiting has been very good
