'25 Portal Thread

So fsu is able to land a lot of recruits after a 2-10 season but we made the cfp and are going on a 2 month dry spell, do you not see an issue with this?
Thank you! It's either our pockets aren't deep, which i refuse to believe look at every other UT sport. Or it's a lack of good recruiting when it comes to the portal.

Did Jer’Micheal Carter, WR from Mcneese, make it to campus? I’ve seen where Oklahoma is already hosting another WR.
He was supposed to be at Vandy yesterday and TN today. Hopefully it's a good sign he got out of OU without committing. I've been looking around and can't find anything.

Search for Heupel on the UCF boards. Paints a relatively accurate picture. Sure there's some sour grapes, but there are some consistencies in the complaints. Now the question is....did he learn from those and adjust? Time will tell. It might be that he's not a big fan of the recruiting process and would be much better as just an OC? Or perhaps he's thrilled with what he has from recruiting and is rolling with those kids who've hung with the program in this era of the portal? Let's be honest, he'd rather cut off his nose than fire someone from his staff no matter how bad a job they do. I'm sure that same loyalty applies to "his recruits". I kind of see it as the Dabo approach. Will it work for us they way it works for them? Do we have the same level of evaluators and developers? I don't know but we're about to find out. Maybe Heupel is just sick and tired of the mercenary tactics and Nico/Nic have left a really foul taste in his mouth in regards to the portal? I mean, really, can you blame him? I'm just a fan and I'm disgusted by the entire process and couldn't give 2 squirts about the HS recruiting process and the games these kids play. Just look at how our own players are using social media to get their kicks watching fan reactions to their posts. The whole thing stinks. Nah, I can see a lot of reasons Heupel might not be relishing jumping whole heartedly into the cesspool known as the transfer portal.
Also known to do more with less. We won way before we should've talent wise. We recruited well the last two years on the OL which usually doesn't give you the rank juice like just getting skills guys. Which is what made Dooley look good with overall rank but he left the trench's barren. We have recruited well on the DL the last few years as well. Look at our CB last year McCoy. No one thought he was really a great portal pick up but our staff did and that is what they do. Try to get the right guys for the position holes. We only lost 5 or 6 so far so retaining most of our guys and not losing any big time players outside of Nico if you really want to call him that. We spent a lot of money to get those linemen out of high school and two really good ones in the portal. We got a 4 star RB to flip to us and a great LB class that we needed. I like how we are building a team while still on restrictions thru probation. Our last game was a college playoff game and you would think we just ended our year at 6-6 or something. Got what should've been a 5 star QB last cycle and arguably the number 1 QB for next year's class committed. We also got a great TE we took from Oregon and the number 1 OT but Tennessee and this staff suck at recruiting because we don't have as much funds for guys looking for that last bag in the portal?

We could use another wide receiver or two but we WANT the young guys to play and the guy from BYU wanted to start and as a wide out he is not better than Matthews, Staley, Smith, Jackson or Brazille. Better returner for sure but we have that covered.

UCF boards have told us he sucks since day 1 yet we have had our best 3 year run in decades with the probation and distraction and should've been in the playoffs 2 of the last 3 years. I really do not think we deserve the great coaches we have. If we do not make the CWS, some of you will be saying Tony V needs to go as well. We have some really stupid people in this fan base. I know others do as well but would think the ones who post in here a lot would not fall into the fringe part of our base.

When we make a conference championship game, then we'll be "there".
So you’re good with ****** football and stumbling into the SECCG with 3-4 loss per season ass your paradigm of what success looks like?
You hang on to that and I’ll ride this. You can pretend you were a believer WHEN CJH plays for championships but I’ll be there to remind you that the standard you expect from Tennessee football doesn’t reflect the standard you hold for…..well, yourself.

Doing more with less, doesn't mean you have to have less.

Is there something going on with Spyre? Disconnect between coach and Spyre? Do we need a GM? What's the issue? Someone needs to accept that these results are NOT acceptable, and that falling behind the middle of the pack talent wise is more than a slipper slope.
He's a good coach. And, I think his kindness, perceived is a great value. I do think he needs to make a change a WR coach, at very minimum. Maybe OC. We will see on that.

We were recruiting at a mid SEC tier before, whatever wall we hit. Invisible as it is.

Bottom line, and we will all agree. 2 OL in the fall porthole, and going Ofer in Spring porthole, sans trading for a backup QB is NOT gonna cut it. In any league.

What the absolute hell is going on?
You want to know who doesn't give a dang about all the things you think the coach needs to do besides the coach and a few other posters? Danny White that's who. He is the best AD we have had in at least 50 years if ever and he knows what we are facing and have faced. Josh is not on any hot seat except for the one's created by reactionary fans.

I was complaining about our lack of portal activity and recruiting towards the end of the season/this winter and got flamed over and over again. I kept saying Heup talking about competing for championships when we recruit and handle the portal like betas compared to other programs... Said we needed to reload at WR and make sure we have the best Oline in the SEC... Find someone to replace Sampson since we let Seldon leave (still extremely pissed we let him go)...

I said Danny and Heup need to decide if they want to take the next step and truly compete for a championship, they need to get with the game and go hard in the portal and on the trail and find the money to make it happen... "doing more with less" ain't gonna get it in this new style of college football... Unless we are willing to pull the trigger on kids, pay the money, and reload, then we aren't going to sniff the playoff anytime soon and will get left behind... get ready for 8 wins max and a nice bowl game...

Fast forward to April/May and look where we are...

Danny and Heup are at a crossroads right now... either we continue with the pace we are currently on and slide to the middle or low end of the SEC and hope for 7-8 wins and a bowl, or figure out a way to get the money needed to get the talent necessary to truly take that last step and have a roster that can beat anyone in the country. Looking like we just don't have the money to get it done or something is broken within the staff and recruiting...

Really sux that we got that close to sniffing the elite status, thinking we are really starting to "be back in the fold", but unfortunately that seems to have been a short-lived tease and we seem to be headed back to mid, while others are getting it done in the portal.
You think DW tells Heupel how to assemble his roster and run his program?

I did, but that is still part of the statement. So my response is still valid.
I’m not sure how you got that out of it. His point with that statement was that JH won quicker because he can do more with less. He went 7-6 (and should have beaten OM) when he had like 55 scholarship players. We paid for a bunch of high school talent. We now have much more. The freak out is kind of hilarious.

My point is just an observation in comparison to the rest of the league. Did he accomplish more with less talent? Yes, but you don't have to settle for less, it's the University of Tennessee.

The game no coach in the SEC wants to be in and the one which GA lost their QB by playing in? I used to believe this but the goal is to get to the college playoff. If you are in the SEC championship game, you probably get there as well and get a bye but most rather not play the extra game. If they start ranking teams 1-12 regardless of conference champions then winning it may give you the 1 seed and change my opinion about it.

That wasn’t his point, so again, not sure how you got that out of it.

Other than UGA, Texas, and Bama, our class was just as comparable with everyone else. The 6th ranked class was essentially the same as the 11th.
