Please stop talking about the buyout

If he punched Crowder void!

This most likely was not true. However, if it was, the administration would have to fire him immediately. Not wait until Butch lost some three or more games. If the school did wait, then the real reason to fire Butch would be the losses not for hitting a player, which I have a hard time believing. Hence the buyout would be valid. The school couldn't use any excuse for a "pretextual" reason to avoid the buyout. Believe it or not, the school is sitting on top of a lot of money. I mean the players aren't even getting paid!

For the sake of argument ( not because I think it smart or feasable) what do you think our ticket demand, merchandising, etc would have been if Gruden had come?
Now same question if we picked up a chip Kelley?

Another question- how did Bamas' sales hype merchandising change when they brought in Saban?

In short, don't be silly, you are making excuses. The captain of the ship definitely directs fan interest and financial backing!
You best give up this bogus argument. You will not/ cannot win it!

If UT finally makes a big name hire you will see an explosion. If he starts winning even more so.

( most of us had to look Butch jones up on google when his name came up- doesn't exactly make you wanna whip out your check book does it?)
Show me where there has been a spike or decrease with coaching changes before? How do u know we didn't try to hire a big name coach?

Does anyone else hear circus music when he posts?

still waiting here is the link..show me in last 10 years where apparel sales have spiked or declined? Hiring a great coach drives sales? I don't see many Gruden, Saban, or Kelly jerseys where I'm sitting buddy..now what will drive sales is switching from Adidas to Nike..but you can't acknowledge that because then you would have to give the AD credit

Is this how far you have to reach?
No one would have dreamed that switching to the worlds largest and most powerful sport apparel company would sell merchandise!

Get a grip!
Jones is mediocre and Debord sux.
If we keep losing we lose fan support. Don't exactly need an einsteinian theory to prove it.
Try whatever spin you want, but you still come across like my 8 year old niece trying to argue a point that is completely unfounded but she won't give up.
I applaud your tenacity, I hope the pr department is paying you enough!

South Carolina went winless and still nearly sold out their stadium..I have faith that our fans will step up and support their players and school

Wow really that's how you argue against my argument for a big name coach
..... With spurrier?

Good day gentlemen.

Again I provided a link and you couldn't provide any facts to back up your theory..heck pick another school if you want..winning drives sales not splash hires

Back in for one last argument and it is a single word...

Saban!

Dang, I mean I read this every other comment. He doesn't have a 12 million dollar buyout. Tennessee is not going to keep a coach just because of a contract.

Let's see, a man can lose all he wants but if he brings dishonor to the university he'll get canned? No. At the end of the day they have to measure their costs and what makes sense long term...that's how money is factored.
At the end of the season, they will determine whether it's better to keep him or let him go. Will money factor in, yes. But it is not written in STONE that we will keep Butch Jones because of a buyout.

Donors will chime in. Closed door calls will be made. They will make a call that they believe is best for the university. Trust me, your voices are being heard.

If they are actually listening to us, I hope "they" understand that us fans do not want another budget hire from a mid major program!

People who are saying the buy out has anything to do with it are dead wrong. Our team succeeding in the field pays massive dividends in sales of tix, but the real money is tuition and merchandise. Bama increased their annual tuition because so many kids are wanting to go there. Not only to play ball, but to be a student and be a part of what they have going on there.
UT turns thousands of students away each year.

Not saying we couldn't because we have guys that could and would stroke the check but as of now with the competition and the goal being the playoffs, we may have to "overpay" someone

People will still buy tickets to individual games. But that's not the topic.

It does not just say "butch jones gets 2 million a year until 2019 or 2020 from the University of Tennessee". There is responsibility on butch jones behalf as well.

Again, not black and white. That's called a gaurantee, not a buyout.

I wish I could buyout some of our fans. Like they could turn in their orange and go cheer for Vandy.

Spurrier could have won multiple SEC championships here.

No exaggeration

That's what I was saying. S car and bama hired well. Spurrier isn't doing as well in part because of recruiting difficulties at s car, a coach like that here would be a force

It's a pretty standard buyout/ guarantee- whatever you want to call it.

If he does ever leave due to being fired without cause, I seriously doubt he will immediately be hired for a head or assistant coaching position making north of $2 million per year.

So if he gets a job, then great for UT. Unfortunately we don't have a great track record with this type of agreement. See Jerry Green, Buzz Peterson, Kiffin, Dooley, Delmonico, Raleigh, etc

Kiffin got us on the flip side - his buyout was extremely low and USC gladly paid it.

Looks like we are paying Dooley 5 million over 4 years..that ends in 2017..does his Cowboys salary reduce that at all?
