Dang, I mean I read this every other comment. He doesn't have a 12 million dollar buyout. Tennessee is not going to keep a coach just because of a contract.

Let's see, a man can lose all he wants but if he brings dishonor to the university he'll get canned? No. At the end of the day they have to measure their costs and what makes sense long term...that's how money is factored.
At the end of the season, they will determine whether it's better to keep him or let him go. Will money factor in, yes. But it is not written in STONE that we will keep Butch Jones because of a buyout.

Donors will chime in. Closed door calls will be made. They will make a call that they believe is best for the university. Trust me, your voices are being heard.

I wished Butch was hearing the voices on this site. I believe he could pickup a few tips on coaching...:crossfingers:

GO VOLS!

Exactly. UT must just have an accounting and major waste problem. Last night's ticket sales, alone, brought in over 6 million dollars.....ticket sales alone......1 game......that's obviously not counting TV money and concessions, merchandise and other retail.

UT Admin needs to be raked over the coals for giving Butch that buyout increase after such a mediocre season. We did the exact same thing with Fulmer in 2007. Newsflash: No one is coming to take Fulmer or Butch from us. Quit overpaying for subpar coaches.

Boosters won't do anything with Hart in charge. That's just pissing in the wind. We've already done that multiple times and it was neither fun nor productive.

CBJ will get another year, unless you have a Chip Kelly approach the AD quietly. Our problems all flow from the QB's limitations, and we need one more recruiting class in the 2ndary to get the right players we need. Dobbs is all we have right now.

Obviously, the call will be made on his final work, not midway through a season. If he has a winning season (though doubtful), he stays, I'm almost certain of it. He will point to momentum and people will buy in, even a portion of the fan base. That's why everyone prematurely got excited last year. (Which btw, I'm guilty of it because I want us to do well SO BAD) However, if this continues to spiral, I think they will heavily consider their options. Remember, this is a state university. State government pisses away more money than you want to take notice of so a 4 million dollar buyout is not as big of a deal as people are saying.

When the Vols do poorly, there is a trickle down effect as well (Advertisers drop off, media exposure dies, etc., etc.)

I think we will see a change in the coordinators. He will probably be given another season with the "make changes ultimatum", not because of a buyout but because of fear of a major setback.. This is almost always the first step these days before they can a head coach. I'm sure that Debord is gone barring a huge second half of the season

Even if Butch got another recruiting class he wouldn't know what to do with it because he can't coach his way out of a wet paper bag with holes in it.

Well said coach....... I mean Bulls%#%.!!
Our defense can't stop anyone!!! Has nothing to do with the QB, our kicker can't make a FG, has nothing to do with QB, penalty getting TD called back, fumble by WR, etc,,
QB has problems but it is much bigger and beyond just that !

Contract through 2020. $2 Million per contract year.

Do the math.

If you really believe that I feel sorry for you. We had big leads late in the games against two good opponents and Butch basically chose to take a knee as a precaution. A couple of first downs in either game and we win. Butch plays with the ultimate loser mentality. It's why the players couldn't muster the effort to win last night. And if we don't have the right players who's fault is that? He's had three recruiting classes (2 of them ranked in the top 5)

The football program brings in over 100 million annually. If you think hey can't afford 1-2% to pay off this staff and go get a new one you are wrong. They certainly can afford it. It really just comes down to the fact that hart doesn't want to accept the failure that another coaching change on his watch would represent. He almost certainly needs to go before anyone else. I hope the powers that be will make it happen soon

Blah blah.....if they could our last few hires would not have been Kiffin, Dooley, Jones.

People who are saying the buy out has anything to do with it are dead wrong. Our team succeeding in the field pays massive dividends in sales of tix, but the real money is tuition and merchandise. Bama increased their annual tuition because so many kids are wanting to go there. Not only to play ball, but to be a student and be a part of what they have going on there.

For the 100th time. If this argument held water the previous 3 hires would not have been Kiffin,Dooley, and Jones.

Need to fire Hart. The new AD needs to look at Butch's contract and see what he can control. Move his office to a lavatory in Ayres Hall. Lock him out of the athletic facilities. Make him broadcast his TV show over Skype from the lavatory. Clip his wings and make him ride the bus. Replace his ride with a beater from a buy here pay here lot. Whatever. Until he wins a "big game."

Let Dobbs and the team coach themselves until then. Couldn't be much worse.

Out of that you get that they have to pay him 2 mil. Per year black and white? The language in that one paragraph alone would suggest that it is not black and white.
