Per Austin Price - expect Shrout to get the nod tomorrow

Maybe my azlmentia is kicking in, but his does sound somewhat familiar. Just sayin, Go Vols!!!!!

1994 season

As a freshman, Manning began the season as the third-string quarterback.[20] In the season opener against UCLA, Manning was one of three quarterbacks to come off the bench after starter Jerry Colquitt suffered a season-ending injury on the seventh play of the game. However, Manning was not able to generate any offense, only handing the ball off three times, and was pulled from the game.[21] Two weeks later, in a 31–0 loss to the #1 Florida Gators, Manning completed his first collegiate pass. During the season's fourth game, against Mississippi State, starter Todd Helton got injured and Manning took over.[22] The Vols lost 24–21, but Manning threw his first touchdown in the game.[23] He was named the team's starter and remained so for the rest of his college career.[24] In his first start, the following week against Washington State, the Vols won 10–9. They won all but one of their remaining games, finishing the season 8–4 with a 45–23 victory over Virginia Tech in the 1994 Gator Bowl.[25][26][27][28] He finished his first collegiate season 89 of 144 for 1,141 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and six interceptions.[29]
How I remember it. Before that TD pass against Mississippi State (and during the game I noticed him squaring his shoulders to pass and for some strange reason that impressed 20 something butchna), I was pro Helton and then Branndon Stewart. That game sold me and I never strayed...tho the QB controversy wasn’t settled amongst fans.

I posted in ticket forum but FYI I have a pair @ x3 for sale for Sat’ game vs USC jr. I live in Spring Hill and will sell cheap to Vol fan

I'm not, however JG doesn't bring anything to the table and JT is an unknown. I'm rolling with JT, with a heavy run game and maybe only let him throw 15-20 times Saturday. Behind this OL with Tim Jordan, grind the game out, control the clock and play defense

I also do not like JG, however what he does bring is being able to make checks, get everyone lined up and make calls. From what I understand that's been Shrout's problem and it continued in practice this week. Remember the delay of game vs AL? I hear from the VQ crew it happened at least 3 times during practice this week. I hope he plays but man if you can't get it done in time in practice how can you do It in a SEC game?

hope JT doesn't start...bad choice...I still think JG should start...ain't giving up on the young man...and,

GO BIG ORANGE...BEAT THE GAMECOCKS!

#18 was 3rd string and his 1st game he didn't look good but he was starting to look really good just the dang injury bug has bitten him. I would go with 12 he has potential.

Here's the differences from what I know and what I've heard from writers:

1) Maurer has much more confidence and energy

2) Maurer had 2 weeks of dedicated practice before he started due to the bye

3) Shrout has had all week of dedicated practice

4) Shrout consistently screws up before the snap. He caused the delay of game vs AL in 1 of 3 plays and he's had it happen several times this week in practice. He's not processing everything quick enough. It's tough to get 1st downs when you lose 5 yards.

We'll see. Hopefully JT gets it done and looks great.

Possibly but if I’m the coach in a messy game Id go with the guy who’s taken the most snaps

Messy??? That describes JG's career at UT so how can playing a messy QB help a messy situation?
The guy with the most snaps is the reason this year and last are/were total failures. Id' go with anyone but JG and that includes getting a student out of the stands.

IOW's you want to stick with the guy who cripples the offense... because the guy you haven't seen is a "bad choice"?

I've been watching them since since 1952 How about you?

Been watching Since 1990.... That being the case if you were a player would you be confident that you could win with a guy that has done cost you 2 games against teams you should’ve beat by 3 scores?

If you are saying your practice is the same as your game performance, you must have not paid attention to Tennessee QB's and football for a while. You a new fan?

I think you start Shrout just to avoid the offense running out on the field for the first time to boos. That would be a real energy and vibe killer to start the game.
Well if that happens then “disgrace” is not a strong enough word. “Disgusting” would be a better word I guess. And recruits would really think that’s cool. 😡😡

Dude, dont confuse me as a JG apologist. I simply think that it’s too much to ask a guy to make his 1st start in sloppy conditions. Maurer is, by far, head and shoulders, years, tons better than JG.
And Maurer checked in at #482 in the 247 composite. JG was a top 100 player. as long as Maurer can gain some Mass and avoid fluke accidents, I believe he'll turn out to be one helluva QB.

Here now! Here now! What's this business about beating cocks and making it a game? You hear me, Squirt????

Right. There was a ton of Vol fans clamoring for Branndon Stewart over Peyton Manning and even Mama Stewart got involved as I recall and called in to a talk show or was interviewed. Similar to Mama Hurd's statement about AK as I recall. There was not universal love for Peyton as many would have you believe today. It was very divisive on the talk shows, etc. until Branndon Stewart transferred at the end of 94. I also remember the extent of Helton's injury wasn't all that serious. It was just a wake up call before the upcoming MLB draft.

We have a history of liking the next one more than the current one when things aren't going so smooth.

I really feel sorry for our HC and OC because they're basically trapped.

If Maurer can't go then their only options are JG or JT or maybe JJ at the QB spot from time to time.

I hope that JJ has been working on his passing just in case.

JJ in the wildcat, he stops and throws a bomb for a TD and musCHUMP goes crazy and has to totally rethink his D.

Keep that chump off balance the entire game with different QB's doing different things and wait for his meltdown.

It's just a really horrid situation for our HC and OC to be trapped in.

I really never want to see JG on the field again but what I really want are WINS and our kids to make it to a bowl game.

Our kids deserve it and it will help recruiting and this total rebuild.

Beat the musCHUMP chickens!!!

VFL...GBO!!!

Yes.
However, ignoring is a conscious decision. It's just as likely or more he simply reacted, and badly.
I have wondered if he just reacted wrong. I mean it's been clear he just doesn't have the head for the game when he's in. Not meaning that to bash him, just honestly makes me wonder.
