Per Austin Price - expect Shrout to get the nod tomorrow

Who starts makes no difference at this time. This is on the Coach and Staff (exception Refs and Weather). The team has shown great improvement Defensively, Offensively the Staff has been behind the curve since the beginning of the season and most can be attributed to JG lack of development under another Offensive Coordinator....

JG has not thrown the ball well at any point this season and rarely throws it on-time. Sits in the pocket and when he moves it usually results in a 1-2 yd loss or gain. He is holding the ball 4+ seconds. Reading Defenses? Missing or not finding wide-open receivers. Even screens have been pathetic. Maybe he just needs glasses.

It is almost like he has slow down his game to the point of not being able to contribute anywhere on the field. Short fields = field goals, long drives = FGs interceptions or fumbles.

Says it doesn't matter, bashes JG.

So it matters...

Thought about changing but yes I did bash JG. He is not cutting it. So throw the Redshirt freshmen in there and we can bash him.

JG lost it and can't recover from it.

Hoping the staff can prepare for the inevitable and limit JGs play-calling and if he sees this defense run 1 - 3 of these plays and don't change the play call. It may not be as much JG ability as it is his Football IQ.

The OL is going to really have to step up tomorrow. With either QB, I'm putting 8 in the box and daring them to pass if I'm the DC. Don't know about Shrout but JG has shown that he can't hit wide open receivers.

I don’t care that you bashed him. Just the fact you said it doesn’t matter who starts, but yet provides as to why JG shouldn’t.

You could tell he had the worst day by a few minutes of video? Why your at it quote the Comments by the players.

If we have any player on the field who thinks they can't win with JG name them. If the Players,Coaches, staff, are for JG playing it's very puzzling to me why the so called fans can't get behind him. If we have any so called fans who boo any player they are punks who know nothing about the game and don't deserve to be associated with Tennessee.
I believe true fans are part of the team and if they are not 100% behind that team they are the ones going rogue.

As far as the blunder by JG there is not a person on here who knows what actually transpired on that play. So here's a novel idea for a fan, root for JG if he gets in the game.

He was airmailing throws by several feet. None of the reporters shied away from saying pretty much what I said.

Kennedy said: we knew what the call ways and you all saw what happened.

Players and coaches won’t say that but it’s pretty telling when he’s benched Maurer comes in and we’ve magically got a pulse. JG plays because the coaches have no other options and if we did he’d be on the bench where he should be. It’s the coaches job to coach them and try and bring them up. He’s done nothing but gotten worse and now he’s taking days off in practice. So tell me is he the guy you want and does he give Tennessee the best chance to win? Furthermore, your the coach knowing what he did your gonna trot him out with the game on the line with full confidence he makes the right choice?

True fans don’t play hero ball a foot from coming within 8 of a rival. True fans don’t try and ignore the head coach because he doesent want his ass chewed. True fans can make the easy throws. Should I keep going?

Here’s a novel idea: go watch the play it’s posted several places. You too will see why it’s not just people associated with Tennessee that are wondering why people across the country are.

Given this year and his drop off, I can't say that JG was night and day better than Keller. I think Pruitt was willing to throw away year 1 because he knew he had JG for atleast 2 seasons minimum to do his rebuild with.

Looking back, I don't think we lose any more games than 7 last year with Keller starting them all. I do think we could prolly win one or two more though with Keller.
He stuck with JG because he couldnt afford for him to transfer. Now he can.

Agree but he gives us the best opportunity to win in the rain imo.

I don't know how you figure that; we have won 1 game this year with him the starting qb, and sc is much better than two of the teams he has lost to. I just don't trust jg

It really doesn't matter. LOL RS Freshman with 20 plays vs Experienced QB with 22 starts the is playing worse than a RS Freshman. Appears about the same so it doesn't matter. If I am picking my poison I am giving a slight edge to the RS Freshman.

Yea because he’s showed us so many wins when it was dry. Sorry had to say it. But I do see your point about his experience may well serve us better in sloppy, rainy weather.

The running backs need to have a big day regardless of the QB.
Which is precisely what Muschamp is thinking. You shut down Tennessee's run game and make their quarterbacks beat you. It's true we have stellar wide receivers but JG hasn't demonstrated he can consistently get the ball to them, and as for Shrout, there's a reason why he's been running third string all season. If we're going to win this one, Pruitt and Chaney better have their best game plan ever, and I truly hope they do.

What would the downside of JG transferring be? We would most likely pick someone up in the transfer portal this past spring or start Maurer from the get go...... Neither of those are worse than what actually happened.

JG or Shrout ---- I am asking just don't know...

Nashville news (Ch. 17) stated this morning no call as been made as to who starts. Just that if JG gets the call expect loud booing. (hate to think this will happen)
What are the differences in these two skill wise? ( yes, Jg has more experience) I feel their skills are not too different.
If this is true, then why would SC care who is on the field? Preparing for one is preparing for both.
This being the case Coach P may just be waiting to say (if it is JG) who gets the call to keep down the negativity from us experts. AND their are many more than just VolNation experts.....

There will be a lot of difference with who we play at qb, if it is jg, sc stacks the line and stops our run, and jg cannot consistantly complete any passes, but very short passes, which will not move them off the line. With Shrout they won't stack the line bcause of shrouts downfield passing.

Hard to know that for sure. Weve seen JG play in meaningful games. Cant say the same for Shrout. He may turn in a Peterman like performance for all we know.

The question is whether it is Peterman under Debord at UT or Peterman under Chaney at Pitt? Im hoping the latter.

I understand and agree, however I hardly ever cut my nose off to spite my face. If )and this is a big if) JG is the best chance of winning, then that's who I go with. Bitter pill I know, but the name of the game at this point is win. The box we are in because of number of winnable games left leaves no room for a loss. If we were bowl eligible or near it, then no JG. But he may be it, as disagreeable as it is.

jg has already lost two very winnable games, and who knows what would have happened if we had scored the td where jg went rogue and pull us withing a td of ala, with their 2nd string qb. So why put him in the game when we have only won 1 game with him as a starter, And in two years and a half we have only won 2 sec games with jg as the strter. jg should not see the field again, we have a much better chance with shrout as qb or even jennings. Why keep rolling out the same losing qb, we know what we have with jg, 2 sec wins in 2 and a half years. We don't know what we have in shrout

6 OL, 2 TE, Jennings at QB with 2 HB would score around 17 points and take a massive amount of time off the clock.....

Yeah, that was so outrageously bad that if we had a redshirt walkon QB on campus, Guarantano might transfer now. Smith had an open crease created, and had he simply handed off the ball, at least the Bama fans would have kept their cigars in their pockets another five minutes.

And the handoff was the play called.
