Oliviyah Edwards requesting out

It’s easy to follow the herd… requesting a release from the legendary program, coach, and coaches style YOU signed up for…that’s a tell. I wasn’t that impressed watching her play in the AA game vs other great high schoolers. She’s making plenty of money already and hasn’t made it to campus. She can go play for another team, grass isn’t always greener…at least all of our cards (unfortunately) are laid out on the table. I hope Kim can assemble a makeshift team to fit her system. I really want her and our LVs program to succeed.

Yes, the herd that disparages every kid and adult that chooses—for whatever reason—to pursue their education and sports careers elsewhere. When they were a part of the tribe they were people of fine character, upstanding and virtuous. As they departed they, Gregor-like, morphed into immoral monsters.

Funny how that works.

You know other coaches were feeding her all kinds of info that they have inside connections, Kim is going to be fired soon, program is dead now, etc. Recruiting is a dirty dirty business. This should not be unexpected. I was surprised it took this long for her to decommit.

I am really not sure if Kim does survive now. IMO it may take a new coach to get the program back on track.

Huh? It’s not like she committed and signed with another head coach that left…to a system that is well known. She knew these things when she did. What changed?!? Bc the press aired rumored dirty laundry…she didn’t want to honor her commitment and play at least a year?!? What’s your point? Lazy…who is a snake and is a “what about me” kind of person it seems. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have her and a few others back, but colors show when the going gets tough. Candace fought hard and was the main reason she got that adidas deal, so at this point, don’t let the door hit you.

Maybe DW should interview the players to find out exactly why they are leaving. If she is mistreating them then that would be a good reason for firing her. If every player dislikes her, why in the world would he not fire her. This is all about him, and the various fans that have posted that scenario seem to be right in their thinking. Maybe he should be fired first.

I don’t know the kid, have never met her. You?

I don’t even know why she committed to TN. Do you?

I sure don’t know why she requested abrogation of the mutual commitment. You have some opinions about that, but do you have specific knowledge?

Maybe the mass defections frightened her. Maybe.

Perhaps her parents grew uncomfortable with the combination of end of season losses followed by all but one of the freshmen deciding to enter the portal, and told their high school age daughter to go somewhere else. That’s a possibility isn’t it?

It’s easy to toss out insulting labels based on assumptions rather than known, verifiable, objective facts. It is kind of lazy, isn’t it?

We don’t like easy and lazy, do we?

I’m sure DW isn’t happy with what’s going on with the program but you know what he’s as responsible as anyone else for it , maybe when we need a new pilot to fly him around we’ll just hire an intern instead of an experienced pilot, I don’t blame KC why wouldn’t she accept a job that pays more than she ever dreamed of making in a season , embarrassing situation right now

She had a promising 1st year punctuated by the UCONN win. Followed by a monster recruiting class.
But this season D1 teams with a pulse figured out her gimmicky system. The top teams embarrassed us in front of national audiences. It all spiraled unbelievably fast.

QUESTION: couldn't DW make the change now, make a "splash" hire, and still save some of the roster (and recruiting class)?

If we’re being honest, the current situation is uncertain. We feel it as long time fans. And recruits see that too.

We’re talking about a 17/18-year-old making a major life decision in the middle of a lot of uncertainty - roster turnover, staff changes, and real questions about direction. The situation she originally committed to isn’t the same situation today.

Relationships matter and the coaches and players she connected with are no longer here. That’s a completely different environment than what she signed up for.

And beyond basketball, this is also supposed to be one of the most exciting chapters of her life. College is where you build something, compete at a high level, but also enjoy the experience, build friendships, and create memories that last. Walking into a situation that feels unstable doesn’t exactly line up with that.

I don't think this is a negative reflection of her character, loyalty, etc in this circumstance. She’s a talented kid trying to make the best decision she can with the information in front of her. Think through the eyes of a kid with lots of options and what you realistically want to take onto your shoulders at this moment in your life: It's not looking good!

If I were a player parent I wouldn't want my daughter going into a situation so completely uncertain that we don't even know who is going to be coaching her. These are the people parents have to trust to spend inordinate amounts of time with their child, teaching them to not only play a sport better, but also to help them grow into successful, conscientious adults. And right now we are being allowed by the admin office to believe that Kim evidently hired at least one "snake," so why in the world would a parent trust their daughter with a coach who might turn around and hire even WORSE people?

Right. And if you watch O and listen to some of her interviews, she's pretty laid back outside of the court. We almost didn't even get an opportunity to recruit her because she didn't like talking on the phone, long conversations with complex decisions, or the process itself. I.e. she did not like being bothered/worried. She notoriously talks about how basketball is one thing but she is also focused on the things she really loves outside of basketball like skateboarding, drawing, etc. So she needs a balance, which I don't know if our situation is really going to allow right now. The lights are already intense but imagine being as highly heralded as her coming into this specific situation...

What I found interesting too is that her stepfather has really catalyzed a lot of her growth apparently through really pushing her on her training over the last couple of years. She already said she doesn't like running or pushing herself too hard her own self, which... I don't know, a player like that strikes me as someone who needs structure, standards, a coach that is going to be able to form that connection to them through which they can push them towards realizing their potential. I just haven't really seen Kim in that role with any player here yet or otherwise. And, we have no idea who the support staff is really. I know she said she wanted to come to TN to dominate, but dominance doesn't happen by accident. And some people need more guidance than others to keep them on track to get there. So, yeah, I would be hesitant in general, but even more if O was my kid.
