Official Jon Gruden Thread XXVI

Exactly. I'm not sure what these people are referring to when they're suggested Butch played him knowingly.

I get that the sec have people in the box looking, but you can't tell me out of the 100 people on the sideline that no one noticed anything off. Yes, liability falls on all, but I don't buy the narrative that no one could tell he was off. I could see on tv, so I would definitely think someone on the actual sideline would notice as well.

Here's the thing about the concussion protocols put into place by the NCAA.

I'm asking (because I don't know) if any neutral official like the medical observers have ever removed a player from a game to check for concussion without the team's consent?

It's all well and good to have such observers on site for the games and having the ability to make independent observations. But has that ability ever been exercised?

Do you think they publicize it? Concussions and CTE are such a national discussion, I doubt when they diagnose it that they’re yelling “Hey! We got another one!” Unless we see a bone poking out of a leg after multiple instant replays, we don’t generally KNOW what a player has specifically been removed for.

What seems clear to me is that someone, doesn't really matter who, who's job is to put the best interest of the University first is prioritizing personal gain or interest in this issue.

So, assuming Gruden is on board and that part of the deal is "done" and agreed to, is it possible that the timing was all part of a concession to JG? But the foul up in the southward trajectory of this is with the Kentucky loss and the Kendrick issue? Both of those don't happen and the coals aren't stoked nearly as hot...

I'm not sure about the legalities of college football coaching, but I know if you drive drunk and say you didn't know it was illegal to a cop, you're going to jail anyways. Ignorance is not an excuse.

Not the same. There are hired professionals whose jobs are to spot and diagnose those issues. Doctors, trainers, and even league personnel are there for a reason.

You are implying ignorance of a law. This situation implies ignorance of a fact. Not the same.

What if.....

Gruden has a timeline in which he needs to tie up loose ends with MNF, and obligations to Hooters etc..

Butch is advised he is let go after GA and start looking...

UTAD plan to let Butch go by Nov. 1st as many have heard. ( including myself )...

After Nov. 1st plan was to let interm coach take over regardless of Butch's situation..

Butch has some dirt some where allowing him to remain this season or until he finds another job...

PURE SPECULATION BUT IS IT POSSIBLE?

We have had this discussion before but the one consistency that comes out of my conversations with my booster friend is "Big Jim won't get out of the way". I used to think he was probably exaggerating but I'm now confident he's a big problem. After the AD hire and the way it went down, I cemented what he's conveyed to me on multiple occasions.

but if they voted not to do the outsourcing thing that Haslam was pushing, doesn't that speak to the group and some of the UT figure heads standing up to Haslam ... maybe a shot across the bow regarding this hire?

What I believe we are seeing is one big booster pushing back against a group of other boosters. It was on display with the AD hire when the one booster snuck Currie in the back door. Still a lot of pushing and shoving going on.

To pull off something like a Gruden hire, everyone must work toward that unified goal. I think this is why the media is so doubtful of the possibility of a Gruden hire. I think Larry has dropped these hints as well. That's the reason I can't go 100% on Gruden coming here. I think it's at best 50/50 for me.

I only have a minute but I wanted to say:

-I believe Currie has to make his choice before he presents at 3 PM.

-in biblical times the king's right hand man would be a eunuch, someone who had been castrated to prevent them from becoming power hungry. For Currie to accept this deal, he is willfully making himself a eunuch to the whole lot of them. That isn't what he has spent his career building in his own mind.

He doesn't have any dirt. Fulmer has recommended to Currie it would not be wise it fire him midseason.

This is correct, only thing I know for sure.

I just don't want this to be a black eye on the university. Everything in the press involving UT right now is negative. I also care about the safety of the players. At the end of the day, they're kids giving their all to a college football team. I hope if Butch is in any way involved it is handled swiftly. If he's not, then he shouldn't be the one to pay for it, but being the HC he should know everything going on, on the field and on the sideline.

I agree with everything you said. I don't understand having him twist in the wind at this point. I believe there is a reason, but for the life of me I can't get anyone to tell me why.

Then we are back to where we were with Dave Hart.

I wish I could be in that room today

so then using his analogy it would be "I didn't know I was drunk."

Daaaang. This thread has it all, including Biblical references. SFD, you are a national treasure/detective in the making and we are very, very fortunate to have you here.

It won't be today, at this point, Sunday or Monday is my guess at the soonest.

Yep but we have heard that every week. Obviously watering it down, there is a holdup in the UTAD. I said all along hiring this Beverly Davenport from CINCINNATI where Butch coached would be a issue.

Noted

What if the deal is done and timeline for Gruden was further out than we expected. No issues with the deal just the fact Fulmer wanted Butch to stay and Currie and Butch don't get along?

Would that explain why we are not accepting official visits?

The way some have described it this is more of a complete shift in power and control. With the payoff to the academic side being funding supplied from other sources.

Middle ground may be an option but that will be perceived as a win for the status quo And big fish want control that our University as is won't allow. This is a revolution........................... Or a complete cluster with incompetent actors at every level. I'm holding out hope for the former.
