I do not see a way that Currie gets out of this with his job. I really feel like this backdoor deal with Schiano has woken the sleeping giants up. Let’s look at some facts/opinions:

1. For ANY coach on the Gruden/Saban level, control was going to have to be given to the coach. It’s the way it needs/has to be. Period.
2. Haslam does not want to let this happen. Facts surrounding the 2012 debacle prove this. If Jimmy Hyams will admit it, you know there is merit to it.
3. I firmly believe the major boosters not named Haslam were formulating/formulated a deal with Gruden. What all was offered l, I do not know, nor do I care. All I care is that enough people that can make a difference does care. I believe their intentions were to hand Currie a deal all but signed for him to look like a hero with. In return, he gets the glory for a coach at the top of the list and the funding to renovate Neyland. Davenport got the funding for the academic side. Everyone walks away winners. These people are not dummies, they were close in 2012.
4. Currie was instructed to play along, making a Schiano hire easy. This is largely the same way we ended up with Lyle in 2012.
5. Yesterday, the AD and Haslam got notice that their game would not work so easy this time around.
6. As well funded as Haslam is, I do not think that he is able nor willing to pay for the renovations to Neyland all by himself. If donors start backing out of that deal, it forces the university’s hand. They might have the Trump card here. I hope. A lot.
7. Haslam has a huge man crush on Schiano. He wanted him in Cleveland, but that didn’t happen. He had a place to put Schiano as long as he said he would be a yes man. It is also convenient that Jimmy Sexton represents him. I know he represents a lot of people, but he is all too welcome here.
I hate to be this guy, but I would like for the University, not Currie, make a serious offer to Gruden. Make him say no publicly at this point. If we make a fully backed run at him, we might like what happens.

I sure wish I could like this 176 more times!

There were multiple reasons the Schiano was objectionable. But I think it is wrong to suggest that his questionable history in relation to child abuse didn't play a primary role in yesterday's events.
I agree Exile. You can't just point to one thing as the reason. The most glaring thing for me is what former Bucs players stated. That he propagated an "atmosphere of fear" in the locker room. We certainly didn't/don't need another KJJ.

Oh I am not saying it didn't play into yesterday's events. What I am saying is that yesterday's events are being viewed in some heroic light that we/someone saved the day from Tennessee hiring a "morally deficient man" when in fact we just tried to get a better football coach. I bet the info regarding Penn State didn't start the fire but only added fuel later. The we turn it into a narrative about how morally upright we are. That's the problem. If it were a "homerun-hire-coach" with Penn State ties we wouldn't have said a word.

You're wrong. My sweet little mom doesn't know his record, but she certainly did know about his Sandusky ties and was livid that he might be coming here.

This may have already been stated in some way or another, but here goes anyway.

He said never say never, he talked about loving Rocky Top but he never denied or said no publicly.

It looks as if Currie never asked him? He was only interested in Schiano.

Maybe there was nothing to deny? Maybe saying "never say never" was an invitation to ask? Maybe talking about Rocky Top was him saying look at me, I am interested. I know it may be really far fetched, but the fact he nor his agent never said no was because he didn't have anything to say no to?

Yes indeed it's a good idea to ask in order to get a response. Truth will come out. Currie on orders from Jim never asked because Jim knew Gruden would want control. I've spent a great deal of time following this matter and a lot has been spoken to at least lead us to believe that we had a shot at getting Gruden to the hill. It's extremely difficult for me to accept that Gruden wasn't even ask.

Then we move onto downright neglect in the additional facts that hardly any "good" coach was ever ask at all. We have a delusional AD folks that has played us like a fiddle. He'll never survive Ktown and I pray for his sake that his delusion isn't leading him to believe that he will announce UT's next football coach.

He has he ego and the balls to say yes and not blink to what is going on with the program. I say bring him on.

Can't stomach the jerk. We would really look desperate if we took him back after what he did. He would have a lot of low character players that I would not be proud to have as Vols. Having said that, the ONLY way I would even consider it is with a low salary, NO buyout from UT but Kiffen would have to pay a huge buyout if he left.

I am now wholly convinced that UT will remain mired in mediocrity. Tee is looking like our ceiling, and while I would support him because of what he did here, he will get eaten alive his first few years in the SEC.

mediocrity? that would be an upgrade.

Aaron. Have you heard he doesn't want to coach but wants to help UT?

at this point we may actually be desperate, again. I agree with your buyout option

Yeah, can't take the foot off the gas now, that's what they're hoping.

Sunday = rage
Monday = pissed
Tuesday = seething
Wednesday = simmering
Thursday = what's for breakfast

They only have to wait a few more days to bend us over and **** us dry

Dealing with people for years some whom are guys who have profiles like Currie in the not so distant past, I fully expect him to pull a "you thought what I decided first was bad, I'll show you bad." He's going to trot out somebody from the Cambodian football league as the only person they can find to now accept the job since the fans screwed it up. They have that narrative out there, they're going to teach us a lesson now. Get ready for retribution by Currie and his supporters inside the administration. WE fans and VN types are the problem not them, they have the national media on their side. Never mind Kiffin, Miles, and others who would take the job, I seriously doubt they will be contacted at all. It will be will fans fight even harder when the next tsunami of crap comes out of the UTAD?? Only when we halt the next screw job coming will the third attempt bear decent fruit. I could be wrong, but these types double down when they screw up usually and try to brute force things through has been my experience.

I disagree completely. We've had our share of issues over the last few years, and nobody wanted anything to do with anyone even linked to that mess. If he were a home run hire we would've seen it coming and you wouldn't be speculating like it's fact that we'd be okay with it. Yesterday's events were completely out of left field, which contributed to the chaos. But, and this is significant I think, Hyams and Fuad were talking about how his ties to Penn St made him completely undesirable. They were saying SATURDAY NIGHT AFTER THE VANDY LOSS. It had everything to do with the Penn St situation. The court of public opinion isn't, by definition, one that allows due process. We have every right to demand a coach who, with absolute certainty, has NOT been involved in any such events.

Cut said “thanks but no thanks”, same thing Lane will say if he gets an offer, right before he goes to poke fun at us on his twitter. Not being negative, just trying to grasp the reality of where we are now, thanks to Currie. I pray for a Christmas miracle because I think that’s what it’s gonna take to turn this mess around anytime soon. I’m still proud to be a Vol fan.
