Ok, Im going to throw something out there. If it isnt gruden (i hope it is) then why do we only have to go after a select pool of "unemployed" coaches. Why is that our only search pool? If everything has lined up in the AD office and boosters, then money isnt an issue. So, who do you want to go after? It can be anyone? Why make a list of out of job coaches or some that may or may not want to come here. Wouldnt everyone be on the list?

With that being said, money isnt the issue. Its still Gruden's job to lose and from what I heard, anyone is on the table if for some reason we get a no from #1.

The spaces between those statements would be the reason for the panic. A lot of stuff goes on between those spaces...stuff that takes time.

(IMO)
UT's been working on this for at least a year now. The SC game last year was the beginning of the end for Butch. It's been happening for a while

Then nothing. The great pumpkin goes back to doing whatever he's currently doing and we hire someone else.

Fulmer could take over today and beat Bama 75-0 and I still wouldn't hand him the program.

That being said, I'd love to see him as the interim.

I like Fulmer but he had his time at coaching the Vols. He hasn't been around the team on a daily basis until recently. probably doesn't have a good feel for all the different personalities of the players. players are not familiar with him as a coach. would be much better if a current staff member was interim.

Patterson or Peterson. Stoops imo is retired for good. Maybe Jeff Fisher?!😏

only problem with that is he would have to take control before January to secure the top 10 recruiting class that will mostly sign in december.

The recruits can wait until February if UT is bringing in top level assistant coaches.

*Edited to add coaching staff to previous post

Drop Butch after bama (Sun or Mon)

Name hoke interim HC (instantaneously)

Quitely lock Gruden down as HC

Finish regular season strong

***Wait until Monday after vandy to name Gruden HC

Hoke coaches bowl game

2018:
Gruden takes full control in January and names coaching staff

Secure top 10 recruiting class

Return to SEC championship game

****- Added for the ones worrying about early signing day.

Since it's looking like Gruden is a no go, I'm good with Kelly, Peterson, Patterson, or Stoops.

One of those guys has to say yes, right? If it goes past that then I feel like we're screwed again.

I'm sure it was me. My husband says the same. I like when men publicly praise their wives instead of bad mouth them behind their backs.

She's the best. She puts up with me and my crazy depression issues, backs and supports me in the ministry and home, she's just the best. Beautiful. Modest. Just the greatest.

I love her better'n chocolate!

it's not. and while i appreciate the stuff going on in this thread regarding Gruden, i'm definitely of the mindset of "i'll believe that, when i see it, not a minute before".

as for the other out of work coaches like Kelly or Stoops or Miles....you can make cases for/against all of them. but i'd be shocked if that's "the list"....gruden, kelly, miles, and stoops....no way. there's a whole host of coaches that would at least be considered, gauged for interest level and at some point vetted for interview/offers.

could be anyone...James Franklin, Bobby Petrino, Brent Venebles, Dan Mullen, Justin Fuente, Jeff Brohm, Scott Frost....among others.

what Currie is not interested in, is getting in to bed with multiple guys on a list, only to be told NO, and be forced to move further down the list. that's how we ended up with Dooley and Jones in the first place, and i'm sure if/when he does fire Jones, he doesn't want to end up with another version of him. which makes me think we may wind up paying a little more than you might expect for one of those guys you may not think you want right now. but better do that with your 2nd or 3rd choice, than being forced to go with #8 or #9...........

make your list. really make the first 2-3 accept or just tell you no, and if you have to move down the list, make good, realistic offers to the next couple and go from there.

if/when we fire Jones, UT is going to have to show the level of interest and commitment is there, to winning. and that includes the $$$ for the incoming staff.

and that's going to have to be the case no matter who they hire.

Fisher is an interesting name....not heard mentioned prior, but would be an interesting name....He has been known to state he loves TN (at least middle TN). Not much college experience, but does bring NFL experience, and some success with a running QB....not sure how I feel about it, but at least is an interesting name....

I've thought about him.
Some really high years, but a couple of really lean years lately.
He's 61 ... If we got 10 good years out of him before he retires (not being mean, just being honest).
We could (and have done) do worse.

I didn't know he was that old...I take it back haha

My kinds are 2nd gen PK's.
Bless their hearts.

If you're ever on your way to Myrtle Beach coming thru McBee on Hwy 1 or 151, come visit at the church and hear me preach! Sometimes I do good. (Obviously, seriously, if I ever do preach good, to God be the glory!)
