Ok, Im going to throw something out there. If it isnt gruden (i hope it is) then why do we only have to go after a select pool of "unemployed" coaches. Why is that our only search pool? If everything has lined up in the AD office and boosters, then money isnt an issue. So, who do you want to go after? It can be anyone? Why make a list of out of job coaches or some that may or may not want to come here. Wouldnt everyone be on the list?
With that being said, money isnt the issue. Its still Gruden's job to lose and from what I heard, anyone is on the table if for some reason we get a no from #1.
it's not. and while i appreciate the stuff going on in this thread regarding Gruden, i'm definitely of the mindset of "i'll believe that, when i see it, not a minute before".
as for the other out of work coaches like Kelly or Stoops or Miles....you can make cases for/against all of them. but i'd be shocked if that's "the list"....gruden, kelly, miles, and stoops....no way. there's a whole host of coaches that would at least be considered, gauged for interest level and at some point vetted for interview/offers.
could be anyone...James Franklin, Bobby Petrino, Brent Venebles, Dan Mullen, Justin Fuente, Jeff Brohm, Scott Frost....among others.
what Currie is not interested in, is getting in to bed with multiple guys on a list, only to be told NO, and be forced to move further down the list. that's how we ended up with Dooley and Jones in the first place, and i'm sure if/when he does fire Jones, he doesn't want to end up with another version of him. which makes me think we may wind up paying a little more than you might expect for one of those guys you may not think you want right now. but better do that with your 2nd or 3rd choice, than being forced to go with #8 or #9...........
make your list. really make the first 2-3 accept or just tell you no, and if you have to move down the list, make good, realistic offers to the next couple and go from there.
if/when we fire Jones, UT is going to have to show the level of interest and commitment is there, to winning. and that includes the $$$ for the incoming staff.
and that's going to have to be the case no matter who they hire.
