Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

I don't think they were elaborate "lies" so much as misrepresentations of how far along things were and the "sure thing" aspect of it. I may have said lies, that is the wrong way to put it. Many of these people get their way in almost every situation, and I think they assumed they would here too.

I am not saying they didn't contact Gruden, or even talk to him. I am saying I believe yesterday was the first official contact by a true university representative and Gruden told them he wasn't interested. Thats what I believe anyway.

That still does not make sense. If the boosters spoke to him and he was not interested, then why didn't he just tell them he was not interested. Why tell the boosters that he was interested and then tell the university he did not want the job. None of this makes sense to me. I'm not arguing...just trying to understand.

I truly believe when we find out who the coach will be, it is because our boosters, fans, players and yes even the UTAD know whats best for UT. I think our football program has slipped too far and they realize that. Football is king in college athletics and brings in all money for all other sports. Hiring a 2nd tier coach at this point would be the nail in the coffin. Our boosters would never let that happen. Too much UT pride!! Gruden or not, the next coach they choose will be better than Dooley and will bring wins back to UT.

I mean, I like to assume that people in that high of a position are professionals and know what it takes to do the right things. Because if not, we might as well have hired a high school cheer squad to save money and get the same kind of backbiting and rumor mongering.

Me too. I follow the KISS (keep it simple stupid) philosophy. All this Hart totally effed it up single handidly just to run us down the road because he's a bammer stuff is far fetched.

A. Gruden just doesn't want to come here
B. We (boosters and UT) couldn't meet his every whim without jeapordizing the school compeletly
or
C. It's in wait mode for his check and obligations to clear

Exactly. I have been thinking about us being at UT the same time lol. Still wondering if our paths crossed. My nickname was BC in college. Was around the Fiji house a lot, lived in the fort, and spent most evenings on the strip or at Lucilles in the old city. Sound familiar?

That sounds really familiar to me...except I had a lot of Phi Delt friends.

This is where "writing checks their asses couldn't cash" comes in imo. If UT could do everything I think these boosters told Gruden it could, then he would be here. According to LWS and Skeeter that I trust now more than ever before, NO university could agree to the things Gruden wanted. I cannot imagine the boosters thinking "done deal" without leading him to believe things that weren't necessarily true.

Again, personally I think they should either donate or not donate and leave the personnel decisions to those in place to make those decisions. Having an opinion is one thing, but this went way further than simply boosters having an opinion I think.

My opinion, the deal is dead. Hart screwing around with some Gruden personal issues to try to get the price down was the final breaking point and one that divided BTB, AD, and JG.

So you put the fall out on Hart? That is an honest question, not being a smart a$$.

it's not over till it's over. can't believe you guys have given up! Been here since day 1 and until we hire someone else i'll be here!

I still refer back to Stephen Hargis until proven otherwise.

The guy was/is adamant that UT/Hart is 100% the reason why Gruden fell through.

The guy has been the most credible person to come out of this whole fiasco.

..this includes "olebigboybob", "johnny_vn_poster", and any other message board johnny-come-lately.

I still enjoy this forum as it keeps me entertained at work and other down times.

I doubt our biggest boosters would donate only to get Gruden. If they love this university, they understand the necessity of a strong football program and would support any great hire. Perhaps not a crummy one. That's throwing money away.

Kevin Pipes was not on TSR yesterday representing Smoky Mtn Knife Works, that was a manager at the store on the show.

Not sure your statement is accurate.

I think your avi is my new favorite.

I remember just last year or the year before commentators saying Rivers was as good as Peyton and thinking they must have lost their damn minds.

They give millions and they're only entitled to an opinion? One word - FANTASYWORLD!
