Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

Alabama, after Saban denied them, offered the job to Rich Rodriguez who turned them down to stay at West Virginia. Saban said he ultimately decided to go to Alabama because of "family reasons". I wonder if this is going to go down basically the exact same.

Saban initially said he was "flattered but not interested" when UA first came at him.

Some of you guys may need counselling at this point.

I tell u something i've not seen in a while, that's some on here with a 100% guarentee like the past day's. I hope it's gruden and this is all cover-up, but i think the espn thing saying he told UT himself he wasn't interested has killed this thread.

No!! I like the new rational, no guarantee gruden thread!! Even good sources go bad occasionally. This way we stay open minded and realistic!! Still Gruden for me too- 50/50

I just overheard a phone conversation from a group of people that was very positive, yet somewhat negative.

Let me text some guys and see whats up. We have more info than we share on here, so I want to check some things out before I post, but I am from 3-97% sure this is accurate.

Simply being a fan who follows obsessively on VN, none of today's event changes the likelihood in my mind. I'm going to bed tonight at the same level as last night. It's all fishy and I refuse to believe Hart is the most incompetent AD in history.

Right on!

Just a hypothetical. Let's say a certain hiring manager already had his guy picked out. Long ago. But he knew there was no way his constituency would accept him. So he comes up with a scheme to act with no urgency, go through the motions of flirting with a high-profile candidate with no intention of consummating said deal. Meanwhile he stalls under the guise of just starting the search all the while other managers fill their vacancies. Eventually with the candidate pool dwindling one of the viable options left is the individual he had pegged from the very beginning. Reluctantly, the constituency has no choice but to accept him.

Just a hypothetical, of course.

you just made me blaspheme! Haysus Kristo, that is actually logical, diabolical and awful.

If you are right, here is what being a Vol fan will feel like:

That's a wide range. :)

Liper I am a long time volunteer born and bred here in God's country, but new to the site and I gotta say your insights are by far the most coherent and sensible.

I truly appreciate your insights please let us know as you can what you can.

:hi:

Much thanks EB. Trying to add what little I can. Actually just jumped back on here last night myself. Thanks again.

But, he has still said NOTHING! Did you read the article from the KNS. That whole article makes no sense.

Why does Hart call someone he has never spoken to to confirm he doesn't want to speak to him? No one else finds that odd.
That was my first thought... Doesn't make sense, the only two actual comments we have heard, first JG on M&M and then this agents remarks, both very odd.

I said so much to employees at work about Gruden to Tennessee..all of em are giving me a hard time now

This happened to me from 11:00 till 7:00 today. It stung a little, but I took it and just said, "SOON"..

I really do think the TB thing is in play here more than we think. If that is the case, I can understand wanting to wait that out, just don't apprecaite anyone taking a crap shot at my team like Lamonte did...

the sack of a** holes Lamonte wouldnt know the difference between a football and a foot up his a**.... sumone needs to show him alittle southern hospitality!!!

And that could be why the ceo types are not real happy with that manager right now.

I agree. And then the fact that La Monte has one off the grid since the exclusive interview with KNS make even less sense.

I don't know much about the TFP, but with their reporter running around the state defending himself allday, you don't do that if you know you did wrong.

On a side note, I am boycotting the morning show on the Animal after their ten minute long mocking of the man for reporting his info he had from sources. Hyams did the same thing on their show and they didn't even question it. Both reporting "sources" but because Hyams said it, his are right and the other guy's sources are not credible.

The other fact is he's an "agent"...between Agents and congressmen it's a tossup on who can lie best, and both can fool a sicilian. This is an AGENT....they lie for a living.

The one thing I forgot to add to this pi$$ing contest is how slighted Hart felt by being gone around. The money met with Gruden and got an agreement (according to Y4B, who I believe). Hart CAN'T have been happy to find out that people whose jobs do not depend on this hire thought that they could do his job for him.

Just a thought as to why Dave might be playing hardball. LaMonte has the prize, sure, but the AD is in full fah q mode at the moment and is willing to make the $$$ sweat for their guy. I don't know Hart from Adam, but I would be willing to bet he's willing to teach the $$$ a little lesson.

Hart better be careful if it is as you suggest. You simply don't thumb your nose at the people at whose pleasure he serves. He is playing with fire!!

I'll put it this way , if it's not Gruden , good luck. I know there are some good coaches left , but there will be no patience with this hire. Dooley walked into a mess. I think we were all (for the most part) fair , in giving him his time to make things right , even though we all had a pretty good idea he wasn't the man for the job early on. The next guy will not get the same treatment. At least , not from me. If Tennessee doesn't go all out to win , by making the right hire , every last one of us have the right to be critical of not only the new coach , but the man who hires him also.

Do I still desperately hope it happens? Yes.

Do I honestly believe that it will? No.

I love this thread, and have nothing but respect for all of those who contributed. However, no one ever told me PERSONALLY that he is hired, so I guess I've always thought I would believe when I see it.

Doesn't mean I trust these guys any less though. I'm just a tangible thinker.

Got ya.

Some of wat has happened today is just curious to me.

A report comes out of the TFP last night and the man is chastised for it all day. Does he bend? Not once.

Everyone broke the news that talks had broken off within an hour of each other. Coincidence or one source calling Lowe, Rucker, Hubbs, and Hyams at once.

La Monte gives an interview to only the KNS that Hart called to say that even though we have never been in contact with each other, we will continue to not contact each other. Ummmm, what?

Then, he falls off the grid and talks to no one else.

Finally, all denials and rejections have come from sources and not from the source (the AD or the Grude).

Did my recap go too far off base or is this as logical as anything else?

I really think Smart was his man from day one. I really hope we are wrong!

Nope, absolutely not. Believe Strong is. Dont think everyone realizes how big of a hire Strong will be. Well respected and recruits absolutely love him. And thats from Skeeter. He believes Strong could be hired befote Mora can even get interviewed. Strong was interviewed toniggt and I would bet gets offered and accepts tonight. But it will be a big, big time hire. Something we haven't had in a long, long time. Good recruiter, good person, disciplinarian and great coach. Will do great things here!
