Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

One big problem. They cant tell an AD what to do when he is going rogue. He will get to pick his coach and if it fails he's fired. If he had accepted the boosters choice he would not have been fired if it failed. Dont forget State laws are working for Hart. This is not private business. I do think your theory is exactly what happen. I could not have said it better. I dont blame carter or the others as they were simply listening to folks they thought to be in the know. What I dont get is why Hart choose silence. It's obvious Gruden liked the publicity. I'm not convinced Gruden ever intended to come to the college level to coach. He suks in my eyes now. Along with ESPN.

I just want to point out that Hart can be fired today, without cause.

I have said, and believe for various resons that Hart may not ever hire a coach at UT.

By mid after noon I had decided Volnation is just completely schizophrenic and I would never beleive a single thing on here again.... now god help me I am starting to think more to this Hargis is laying his career on this one...that tells me this was no fantasy...

But Hart does seem opposed, and or out of loop which is crazy in itself, and I dunno I don't know what to beleive anymore....

Saying I buy this really was almost a deal now.....are the Boosters actually unified? I mean if Hart is facing down all boosters that is insane....but if it's mixed support among top boosters that makes more sense....anyone have an idea where the big 5 stack on this?

If Haslam can make this happen I will vote for him for the rest of my life. :) But I'm just worried that by golly I am becoming schizophrenic just by being here too long....

My take on what went down is this...Everybody including Hart knows that if Gruden wants the job he would be here. Hart played this in a way to find out if he wanted the job, which is different from willing to accept the job. I think Gruden was willing to accept the job if properly enticed, but didn't necessarily want the job. Once they both figured each other out, they both backed away to save face. In my experience once face saving starts, there is no more negotiating. This is dead people. Im as upset as anybody else. But its dead.

The problem is that we haven't seen any face saving from Hart. Maybe he just doesn't feel the need to respond.

I agree with you that it is likely dead, though.

Let Hart resign. I welcome it.

I think I would to but any coach we hire is going to want to know who the AD is going to be so if he rsigned now more than likely UT would be forced to hire an AD then the coach. In this scenerio we would really be put in a bad place.

Here's my question.

The boosters pooled money and went all in on the Gru. This money was for Gru only. If Hart failed to deliver Gru the money was to be returned. Hart would then have a budget of 2.9 to hire a coach.

Here's the question.
As of 9:15 the money has not been returned. There are currently no plans to return it. Why?

I agree with this when dealing with fighters because when fighters decide to save face it means they are scared to fight each other.

There's nobody getting their ass kicked if this happens so this shouldn't be a problem in your scenario

Carter... asked several times in last thread but it was moving too fast.

Have you talked with your a/v guy that supposedly set up the press conference equipment in the locker room? Did he take it all back down or is it just sitting there?

The locker room was set up for a press conference that is most likely expected to happen next week.

I've been sitting around thinking about this thread and how huge it has become and I was thinking of any possible one that could someday rival it and I think there's one that can and will someday. Let's look past this next head coach. Let's hypothetically say whoever it is makes it 7-8 years. Let's assume Peyton retires in about 4 and then starts doing announcer type work like gruden. Once he's out of playing and we start looking his name is bound to come up and would, in my opinion be by far the craziest amount of hype and rumors ever.... Gonna be insane. What say y'all? Not in any way saying he will ever coach the team or any team but the expectations for him to do so will be All over the place
The difference is that if PM ever wants to coach the Vols all he has to do is hold a presser and say "I'm ready" and it'll be done.

Can not believe for 1 second Hart is this stupid if it is true he is the reason it doesn’t happen
If he is, I do believe he will be out of a job within days, and –get this—could see Dooley step in as AD

I can not imagine Gruden would want UT to have to suffer any type of embarrassment- He either wanted the job or he didn’t- and for it to have gotten this far and just now to have things come out like they have is hard to believe

If Gruden truly didn’t want the job then there are a lot of things pointing to his interest in the job and who was courting him- if he was the reason this didn’t happen-we will hear about it

Nothing is as it seems and maybe it is to appear that way, maybe it is not going to happen.
All I know is there is something that is going to happen and happen within the next few days- who knows for sure what it will be
Stay strong nation!

Hart's stealing it to give to jimbo instead.

Skeeter NEVER was in.... bcarter was in, then out, then back in again, then now out again (maybe with sources but true), yay4bray is still posting next week, Lex said late today he was still in and I added Oldvols last post on the subject

So what is your defense...Oh i forgot InSUNSERI ...you never had one

In fairness I was never out until today. My confidence in a MOU being signed went way down at one point but until today I never posted I didn't think we would get him. I had been convinced a long time 75% or greater. It's odds for me. Anyone that has had no doubts is not being realistic imo.

Hmmm

A theory to help you Grudes Grude on is that the timeline sucked and today was a big fat emergency brake.

Basilio has been saying for weeks that Hart is the wildcard in the hire and that he may go out and hire who he wants. Hart knows that if the booster give him any problems he would resign and put the program in further turmoil.

Yes.

From everything I can gather this was on a silver platter given to Hart. I would imagine if not patched up tonight or the next day its over. Im wondering if a lowball number was given in the contract. This has been in the works for sometime.

Pretty easy answer , but most people think this is a dead issue now. I'm still in the 'wait and see' mode.

Harts buyout!

Powdersville? Nice to see there are a few VOL fans in my neighborhood. My kids certainly do take a ribbing from all the Tigger and chicken fans around here.....

I really hope your continued optimism on choice #1 is warranted.

So do I. All I know for sure at this point something indeed did happen last night. I think Gruden has pros and cons but is the best option out there to jump start this mess. We have to wait and see at this point. Any of us that have ever been involved in any type of deal especially ones with real money and egos know it not over until it is over.

Hart addressed us through hubbs and VQ earlier this morning. IMO. Next time you see hart, he'll be at a presser for the new HC.

If he doesn't address the Gruden rumors before the PC somehow, I seriously feel sorry for the new coach.

Wouldn't surprise me if Hart is booed walking to the podium.

I wouldn't take that chance if I was Hart.
