Here's my question.

The boosters pooled money and went all in on the Gru. This money was for Gru only. If Hart failed to deliver Gru the money was to be returned. Hart would then have a budget of 2.9 to hire a coach.

Here's the question.
As of 9:15 the money has not been returned. There are currently no plans to return it. Why?

Lets just put a hypothetical question out there! Lets say a man was waiting on getting his final pay check. Lets pretend that the check would come on the 1st of the month. Would it be worth it to wait for for it if said man had 1.2 million reasons to wait for it?

Hart Misunderstood and thought they meant Golden, not Gruden?

In fairness I was never out until today. My confidence in a MOU being signed went way down at one point but until today I never posted I didn't think we would get him. I had been convinced a long time 75% or greater. It's odds for me. Anyone that has had no doubts is not being realistic imo.

I was not trying to be unfair... but I recall you posting that the deal had gone south, when the other OG's were saying different....

I am not taking a shot here and not trying to make you look bad.... I honestly believe you have posted each day what you heard and believed... but you have waviered

I want to believe. But I feel like I've been beaten with a baseball bat today.

That budget of 2.9 to hire a coach is an eye-opening number...for bad reasons. We are screwed if that is the case.

Do you guys treat all of your newbies like this?? Good grief.

I'm not leaving. I'm in for Gruden too. There are many other posters here that agree that it is done. Doesn't matter why. The freaking WVLT local 8 news is what did it for me. Go after them.

I will be the first one to celebrate if it does go through. I PRAY I'm wrong. But there is not proof to say otherwise.

Controlled leaks, slimy agents, vagueness, none of it matters. Again, to quote another poster (not a newbie) I pray you all are right. I'm just down. AND I HAVE A RIGHT TO BE

If it was conditional for Gruden only then wouldn't the checks have been written after the hire was made? This ain't the NFL - there's no 'signing bonus.' Makes no sense.

My take on what went down is this...Everybody including Hart knows that if Gruden wants the job he would be here. Hart played this in a way to find out if he wanted the job, which is different from willing to accept the job. I think Gruden was willing to accept the job if properly enticed, but didn't necessarily want the job. Once they both figured each other out, they both backed away to save face. In my experience once face saving starts, there is no more negotiating. This is dead people. Im as upset as anybody else. But its dead.

That is probably the most logical explanation that I have read in almost 14 iterations of this thread.

Believe me, I wanted to buy in as much as anyone. There were days that I did and days that it all smelled fishy.

There are 50 Harts out there that would come here in a minute.

Hell, we have 2 or 3 willing and more than capable sitting around the program right now.

Hart will not be missed. If he believes he will, his fate is already sealed.
At this point I would give thumbs up to Fulmer as AD.

You could see a scenario where that block of big $$$ (including Manning, NFL front office types with UT ties and others with UT connections in that industry) have the rug pulled right out from under them by Hart. They could literally start working a list of their candidates while Hart goes and hires his own person. This could happen. And it would be unprecedented around here. This is really a concern this morning as the search really heats up beginning today.

Remember, Dave Hart doesn't like to be told what to do by anyone. Going to be an interesting couple of weeks around here.

I think, as far as Hart not liking being told what do, Skeeter and Deer Park and LWS would agree.

Hart has gone off the reservation as predicted. At the very least, Gruden and his people didn't want to deal with him and there's a reason for that.

If we end up with Fisher, it's a f'n cop out.

GRUDEN!

What's MOU?

Hart knows he is ****ed either way. Honestly, who is gonna coach here knowing what has transpired? Who? Not a single top coach, I would think. For Harts career and livelihood, he MUST get the Gruden deal done. Everyone has already turned against him. Now he can save the day. Everything that has happened was for Gruden, and he was delivered to Hart.

You underestimate the egos of coaches. They all think they can make a National Championship Football contender out of Sister Mary of the Holy Innocent given the time and resources to do it. If they don't come it's not about what happened here, it's that they don't believe the University is committed or will commit to winning. And also if they believe the commitment is there for their plan, none of them will spend 2 seconds worried about the truth of what happened here.

I have always been more hopeful than confident.

I am still hopeful.

I am sad at the alternatives at this point, so I have no choice.

Just a confirmation here.... is this the truth? or are you toying with my emotions?

Great point. Gruden gets his last paycheck from TB on 12/15 - the same time Hart is now expected to make an announcement.

The goal was to throw everybody off and it worked.

I'd shun the Vols for a weekend if it was for $1.2 million.

Rough day in Rocky Top. If not Gruden, still hoping for a great hire. Hopefully the blood bath on the hill from Wednesday will dry up any the AD with the big contributors will more forward with a successful hire. I'm afraid the damage may be done, however.

you mean after a Gruden hire or another? I will be livid if they let him ruin this, hire a coach, then fire him.

My opinion is we do not have a choice at this point. If the AD were fired there is no way a coach would want to take the job not knowing who he would be working for.
