Im with ya, I dont get jumping ship at this point. Since Wednesday when Gruden was on Mike and Mike, nothing from the press or Grudens camp makes any sense. The assistants salaries excuse makes .ei. no sense and as was posted somewhere in a Gruden thread, Hart wants to look good in all this so suppose this flight is to meet with Gruden "one last time" and tomorrow during the SEC championship buildup they're talking about the Gruden to Tennessee deal being back on, maybe, and we're not pissing Slive off announcing a hire but getting plenty of air time. Then I think Monday prior to MNF Gruden takes the job, big buildup for ESPN and MNF. Way too many sources Isaying its been done and way to much BS that doesnt make any sense to make me doubt it, I'll believe until someone else is announced at a press conference.
This really feels plausible. I can't believe I just typed that. This really does make sense.
I think this is what happened, just speculating but this is the place for this. Imagine this:
Dooley is failing. A big money guy finds himself in a position to meet Jon. They converse about UT football. Then Dooley is failing worse, booster a calls booster b and talks about the Gruden conversation. They contact him to gauge his interest and then to know what sort of package he needs Gruden calls a few people to see what their salary demands would be. He also speaks of concerns about recruiting and the red tape in the college game. He tells booster a and booster b a ridiculous salary number to not seem like he is closing a door maybe, but high enough he expects a no. They get the money together and start talking "done deal" because of this.
Not at all saying what happened is anything close to this but its possible Gruden got hung up in a Booster fantasy and was forced to say no.
There are tons of scenarios where Hart is not the villain here. Just trying to be reasonable and think what could have happened.
I am sure he has his reasons.... but I was believing the impossible before he came into the thread... I am sure he has great contacts but my money has always been on the $$$$ people and not the AD office.
I may be proved wrong, but it will be when they hire a new coach not named Gruden... not because of some tweet, internet post, or Jimmy Hymns report coming from Hart
I think this is what broke my heart the most. That his agent, supposedly, speaking on his behalf would say such derogatory things about us as fans and UT. It hurts to think that a man who was given his first GA job here and has family with UT ties and professes to love UT would treat us that way. Its like getting a divorce and finding out that the ex's family never liked you. I have a hard time believing that Gruden would want that impression of him out there.
Where do you guys come up with this stuff? This is so far off the map you're on another planet.
While I'm in the boxing business, I have been involved in these type deals many times as well. Maybe its apples to oranges, but the statements from Lamonte and Gruden do not feel familiar to me at all. I don't think they want any part of this.
So what happened then?
