I know u r still on board. I'm on board. It might be a sinking ship but I think there is a chance the holes will be plugged. Nothing in the media today has me convinced it can't be salvaged. Bcarter jumping has me more worried than anything but I'm still a believer.
So I posted a picture of Gruden earlier this afternoon, with a YouTube of Boyz 2 Men - It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday attached. Well, it was playing on my ipad, and I'm 99% sure it blew the speaker on my ipad.
So yes...our program blows, we whiffed on our top coaching choice, and Jon Gruden blew my effing iPad speaker via Boyz 2 freaking Men.
It's been a real banner day.
I think this is what happened, just speculating but this is the place for this. Imagine this:
Dooley is failing. A big money guy finds himself in a position to meet Jon. They converse about UT football. Then Dooley is failing worse, booster a calls booster b and talks about the Gruden conversation. They contact him to gauge his interest and then to know what sort of package he needs Gruden calls a few people to see what their salary demands would be. He also speaks of concerns about recruiting and the red tape in the college game. He tells booster a and booster b a ridiculous salary number to not seem like he is closing a door maybe, but high enough he expects a no. They get the money together and start talking "done deal" because of this.
Not at all saying what happened is anything close to this but its possible Gruden got hung up in a Booster fantasy and was forced to say no.
There are tons of scenarios where Hart is not the villain here. Just trying to be reasonable and think what could have happened.

I am sure he has his reasons.... but I was believing the impossible before he came into the thread... I am sure he has great contacts but my money has always been on the $$$$ people and not the AD office.
I may be proved wrong, but it will be when they hire a new coach not named Gruden... not because of some tweet, internet post, or Jimmy Hymns report coming from Hart
I will 1000% agree with you on this. This is swimming with the sharks.
IF (and a big IF), this job isn't filled by this time next Friday, then we absolutely still have a game on. The next week will be telling.
BUT, to get this closed, Haslem is going to have to broker the terms of this deal himself, and then let Davey boy and the lawyers paper it up.
I believe the deal will be done. Everyone wants it done but it has to appe a certain way...cannot appea that boosters run the show.. it is intermission and the play will begin next week or hopefully sooner.m.i feel in my bones after the season we had no way we would put a stop to a deal that would end this misery..
Look I'm not privy to the negotiations and I don't pretend to be, but my work involves this sort of negotiating pretty frequently, and this has all the makings of the principals (JG, Boosters) having their wants mitigated by the wants of those entrusted with negotiating for them.
Specifically, Hart believes that he can get Gruden to sign what's in front of him, and that moving on and interviewing others is proof that UT has other options lined up. This is a tactic, nothing more. Hart has clearly left Gruden with his final offer and is hoping that JG can and will convince LaMonte that he's got what he wants and he's ready to wear orange for a living.
Same goes for LaMonte, I believe that Gruden told him he was ready to sign, but LaMonte told him to lay low and let him go to work on getting TN to revise their position. LaMonte wants the perfect contract for his client (remember, this revolves around control, control, and more control), it helps him keep his percentages high and does well for his reputation. This isn't just about Gruden, this is LaMonte protecting his reputation too, and he's got future clients in mind. Simply put, Bob LaMonte does not sign contracts that make his clients administratively weak, he stakes his rep on it.
In my view, the money is no longer a problem and TN has shown that they are willing to pony up for their guy, perhaps in spite of themselves.
Right now it's a standoff between the negotiating parties, and the $$$ and JG have been put in a holding pattern pending one side or the other coming back to the table. Right now LaMonte is winning though because those Chatty reports have turned the heat up on Hart - the booster community is up in arms and letting him hear it. Boosters know that Chatty speaks for them, they know who's got the right info.
