This is a freaking power struggle. Perhaps Hart does not fully understand that you do not bite the hand that feeds you.

These big $$$$ donors can crush Hart's career on a whim if they really wanted to. Maybe Hart is too arrogant and egotistical to perceive that he is in a losing position.

Perhaps those $$$$ commitments from donors for Dooley's buy-out suddenly disappear.... What would Hart do then???

Screw Hart and the damn Bama train he road in on!!!!

I hear you but we don't know the back story of the through line established when Hart was hired. Surely the direction of Football was discussed. If he was kept in the dark and had alread begun to set a course it puts him in a difficult situation.

I've felt like this all day for some reason

tumblr_m7ubvjZYzk1rzsd6so1_500.gif

That's what I'm talking about!:)

I have not jumped ship.....I am right here where I started in Gruden1

I know u r still on board. I'm on board. It might be a sinking ship but I think there is a chance the holes will be plugged. Nothing in the media today has me convinced it can't be salvaged. Bcarter jumping has me more worried than anything but I'm still a believer.

There is a difference in deflecting and being a derogatory A$$.

Deflecting = as much and Jon loves UT and appreciates their interest, he feels like this is not the time in his life he would be interested in coaching college football

A$$ - Jon coaching at TN is living in a fantasy world

I would have actually been more deflated by the former.

The latter is a hotheaded agent in the middle of a negotiation.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again, Hart is out of his league with Lamonte.

You must be young lol, go back and checkout scores of games when Ray Mears was the HC, seems like I remember finals being like 20-14 before the shot clock was used.

Haha, I am. Just 20, but born a Vol.

We scored that much when I played in elementary school. I don't know the days of no shot clocks haha

So I posted a picture of Gruden earlier this afternoon, with a YouTube of Boyz 2 Men - It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday attached. Well, it was playing on my ipad, and I'm 99% sure it blew the speaker on my ipad.

So yes...our program blows, we whiffed on our top coaching choice, and Jon Gruden blew my effing iPad speaker via Boyz 2 freaking Men.

It's been a real banner day.

Those damned Apple product speakers...

I love the products but hate the speakers

Went ahead and bought some Bose speakers to hook to my macbook pro so this wouldn't happen

Just guessing, but I do not think he had a pulse of how big it got, and got there very quickly. I think the info he released today was a direct result of this thread and the Chattanooga article that may have not been written without this thread. I think he said something as soon as he thought he had to, and did it through Hubbs and VQ.

I DO NOT blame Hart for this. I put the blame on Gruden for sitting back and enjoying the attention knowing he wasn't coming here. I no longer believe he contacted UT, and also no longer believe he ever had a contract or MOU in hand. JMO but its what I choose to believe looking at all the information. Take it or leave it. A little bitter I got burned, but cannot tell those people that burned me "Hey I posted that **** you told me online and now look ridiculous" lol.

Hart will get scapegoated but I bet when its all said and done and everything comes out it will prove that UT has infinitely more interest in hiring Gruden than Gruden ever had toward UT.

Appreciate your information through this process. The TimesFreePress article and the writer's sources for the article contradict what you are feeling. Hargis was adamant that Gruden wanted the UT job in the 2 interviews I heard today. He did not waver and placed blame squarely on the UT athletic department. His sources were not UT boosters.

I think this is what happened, just speculating but this is the place for this. Imagine this:

Dooley is failing. A big money guy finds himself in a position to meet Jon. They converse about UT football. Then Dooley is failing worse, booster a calls booster b and talks about the Gruden conversation. They contact him to gauge his interest and then to know what sort of package he needs Gruden calls a few people to see what their salary demands would be. He also speaks of concerns about recruiting and the red tape in the college game. He tells booster a and booster b a ridiculous salary number to not seem like he is closing a door maybe, but high enough he expects a no. They get the money together and start talking "done deal" because of this.

Not at all saying what happened is anything close to this but its possible Gruden got hung up in a Booster fantasy and was forced to say no.

There are tons of scenarios where Hart is not the villain here. Just trying to be reasonable and think what could have happened.

Seems logical but with his relationship with Peyton would he not just say "hey man, I'm an NFL guy"?

Here is my take on the whole Gruden issue: This morning between segments of the Today show, the local news interrupted with the news that Gruden had been offered the HC with a very lucrative package. Jeff Mescon reported that the only sticking points were payment for his assistants. Actually, what had happened between 12 A.M. and 5 A.M. was that Gruden had been offered the job with no mention of salary and Gruden had responded "no thanks". Unfortunately, the local news was giving the story from what had happened around 12A.M. and reporting that as the whole story. Fortunately, we still have other coaches from the lst string to interview. After next week, we will be getting into the 2nd string and rapidly approaching the "dead period" in recruiting parlance. So, let's hope and pray that Hart is able to announce a positive hire by next weekend! He says that UT is a prime position. I've yet to see that it is a prime, well-sought after position for other successful head coaches. It is a prime postion for other "Dooleys" out there.

Still here, checking every 30 sec waiting for the tide to change. I have no inside knowledge or experience in these type of matters but this sudden backlash seems fishy, like a ploy to buy more time. Wasn't the original timeline the 2nd or 3rd week of December? With how stupid and incompetent the public reports are making the UT AD look, it seems reasonable they would make some sort of official announcement to restore some order and control on the situation. But I digress, I'm just an emotional Vols fan wanting my team to be relevant again.

I may be late to the party (Gruden VIII I think), but let me know if you find a thread like that. This is exactly the thread I've been looking for. You guys make this site fun.

This has been one helluva ride and hopefully there's a little bit of the ride we ain't seen yet.

I was in a little late, i think gruden V, but im still here and will join you guys and gals in any thread.

I'm really starting to feel like we got played by gruden...he just wanted a media bump and twitter trend...maybe?

I believe the deal will be done. Everyone wants it done but it has to appe a certain way...cannot appea that boosters run the show.. it is intermission and the play will begin next week or hopefully sooner.m.i feel in my bones after the season we had no way we would put a stop to a deal that would end this misery..

Hold! Hold! Hold! Long time lurker first time poster in this thread. First, the odds are gruden isn't coming. However based off everything that's happened today I don't understand how "grudenites" can jump ship. Perhaps if u have inside info I can see u jumping ship but just based off the media today it's not really worth throwing in the towel. IMO it ain't done yet, one way or the other. I wouldn't be surprised either way. I'm full gruden but this is TENNESSE and we will be back, that u can bank on. Might be when I'm on my death bed but we will be back. Go vols.

Im with ya, I dont get jumping ship at this point. Since Wednesday when Gruden was on Mike and Mike, nothing from the press or Grudens camp makes any sense. The assistants salaries excuse makes absolutely no sense and as was posted somewhere in a Gruden thread, Hart wants to look good in all this so suppose this flight is to meet with Gruden "one last time" and tomorrow during the SEC championship buildup they're talking about the Gruden to Tennessee deal being back on, maybe, and we're not pissing Slive off announcing a hire but getting plenty of air time. Then I think Monday prior to MNF Gruden takes the job, big buildup for ESPN and MNF. Way too many sources saying its been done and way to much BS that doesnt make any sense to make me doubt it, I'll believe until someone else is announced at a press conference.

I was done posting but I cannot get one thing off my mind:

Stephen Hargis' article and interviews.

This guy staked his reputation of 23 years of reporting facts and from what I witnessed today in listening to his interviews, the guy seems 100% legit, and believes his source(s). One of those sources was stated to be a part of Gruden's future staff.

With that being said, how in the world was Gruden not interested when he was contacting his proposed staff? It doesn't make sense to me what Lamonte is saying with Gruden not being interested. I can't get past this.

This screams that there was another party involved that did not want/couldn't come to terms with Gruden.

If this party turns out to be Hart (which I have no idea of who this party would be), this guy will really piss off some people here in this state.

Myself, as well as my partners/friends will continue to back "our" school no matter what direction we go, but if we find out that Hart blocked our boosters, well...you can guess the rest.

Go Vols either way.

I will 1000% agree with you on this. This is swimming with the sharks.

IF (and a big IF), this job isn't filled by this time next Friday, then we absolutely still have a game on. The next week will be telling.

BUT, to get this closed, Haslem is going to have to broker the terms of this deal himself, and then let Davey boy and the lawyers paper it up.
