Official Jon Gruden Thread 35

I’m really curious about the Blackburn element. So he steps down as AD from UTC last June? To “pursue other interests”...... what’s up with that? He comes forward basically endorsing an open door for Gruden on the Hill yesterday. He was Gruden’s bud when Gruden was GA under Majors. And Gruden seeks his advice re:NCAA compliance.

To me, this is HUGE and represents the conduit for the “back channel.” Help?

DB didn't step down because he wanted to.

I've gotten a little cold feet. Let me explain why without being told to "get out"

I think Jon Gruden would be an outstanding coach for the University of Tennessee. I'm absolutely 100% sure of that. The huge concern I have is whether or not his heart will be fully in coaching, initially or two years from now?

You see, for most of the coaches in college and pro football, all they can do his coach. All they want to do is coach. It's who they are, and that's all they can be. Whether they have arrived at their final destination, or they are climbing the ladder, they give everything to what they love to do, because it's all they can do and all they want to do.

So what if Coach Gruden doesn't find the success or Joy that he wants in coaching? What are you be honest about that and resign? Or would he 'phone it in' like Jones did this year and get the buyout and retire or go to the pros?

I think you have to admit that is a legitimate concern. If his heart is fully in it, he will be a great coach or Tennessee. If not… my concern is that we are forcing the issue instead of letting Coach Gr my concern is that we are forcing the issue instead of letting Coach GrUden walk down the path he wants at his own pace.

Jon Gruden is a maniacal workaholic. The dude is like the energizer bunny for football.

I may have a few questions about Jon Gruden, but his dedication to the game or his work ethic would not even be anywhere near my list of concerns.

Soon.

Ditto.

It's like driving by a construction project without a sign, and you keep waiting on enough of the building to be up so you can tell what it's gonna be. You want a nice restaurant cause they neighborhood needs one. Then the day comes when you drive by and see
the sign for the new auto parts store. :cray:

Aww, don’t be worried, Volly! We’re getting ready to find out the new building is an Olive Garden!

well it confirms the pic was true...and that the chicago flight was a diversion....and that Currie was a nervous trainwreck. Yeah...I realize its not a huge deal...just another piece to the puzzle. Just like all the plane tracking stuff

I don't think anyone thought it wasn't real. Idk...not trying to rain on your parade, but it just doesn't seem that important to me.

I didn't put much thought in to it at the time, heck didn't even hardly remember it, but it did seem a little odd when he abruptly resigned.

Apparently, he got sideways with his bosses a UTC after he openly campaigned for the AD atUTK.

Read it again. I didn't question his work ethic or love and commitment to the game of football

My concern is/would be what if he's here for 2-3 years and leaves for the NFL? I wouldn't have that big of a deal with it, as long as there's a succession plan in place.

Maybe that's what is being ironed out.

yeah, if he were to take this job, the bigger concern would be how do you slow him down?

From VQ

Posters jpaint and DRSTS (DRSTS is considered most THE reliable on VQ next to Swan Man)

JPAINT-
"I have 2 strong sources telling me that the entire UT contingent was in Tampa last night....was it to make a final push? Was it to get the details ironed out? That we will have to wait and see..."

DRSTS-
"i have heard the same"

If this was anything but a Let’s get this signed thing, we are desperate for him to sign and he’s inclined to say no.
UT in desperation is very very very worrisome

That’s an understandable concern . That being said wouldn’t this apply to any coach we hire ? Same worry after a couple of years or let’s say 5 years you run out of steam, fan pressure gets to you ? Wins not coming like they should? There’s pressure to all coaches nobody forces them to take it , they are like elite recruits in they will be chased after heavily . Part of being a good coach .

The Grude News, thoughtful insights for this morning. For those just joining us...

OX0yQ.gif

Good morning everyone. And what an interesting 24 hours it's been since the last update. This morning, I'll apologize in advance on not having all the up to date news and tidbits from the previous 24 hours. Instead of reading through pages and pages of info and coming up with a recap, I took the night off. Watched some TV, ate a calzone with the dog and just relaxed. And came to an epiphany...

It's over.

I can't say that with any certainty, but it's my belief this search is over. I do know that after 35 different threads, more than 285,000 posts (at the time of me writing this) and 20.2 million views (as of 11-15-2017) of everything Gruden related, our journey is almost at an end. It actually came to me about a week ago when I noticed a subtle change in one of our mysterious posters. Beaver stopped providing riddles and insight and started being, well, just a regular poster. He seemed calm. Like a man who's job was at an end and knew the outcome. He wasn't nervous, wasn't trying to pass on information. Just started being normal, yet still limited in his posting.

Combine that with our regulars Boro and DTO grinning like the Cheshire Cat and being eerily calm about the whole affair. And if this was about to fall apart, I doubt they would be around to get their backsides kicked a second time. Bubba saying goodbye and leaving as quickly as he came on board. Atlanta being mysteriously quiet save his posts from yesterday. Other posters are coming forward with information that the deal is pretty much done. The atmosphere is one of completeness. Of seeing the tape flickering at the end the marathon. And barring any unforeseen problems, I believe Gruden to be our next coach at Tennessee based on the actions, and inaction, of those we have come to trust.

Rumors are swirling, information is leaking out, people are talking. However, I believe the information is somewhat behind in that world and everything is as done as it could be. And we don't have Gruden, but rather Gruden is joining us in our love for Tennessee. I don't know when or how the announcement will be made, but I feel like we are spinning our wheels trying to figure everything out and waiting on every Tweet and message board post to provide us with the answers.

The answers are right in front of us. Others have pieced together the intricate details of "how" and inner workings of the deal like SFD and Hawk, but I just feel based on the human element things are done. And we must wait for the official announcement.

From the entire Volnation News Team, I'm Grand Vol and are we there yet? That is the question.

Great report and top notch as normal.... I agree we are right there........SOON!

I think it's safe to say that local media has no idea this go round. They've been spoonfed for years and have forgotten how to do real work.
