Successful coaches who flamed out like Howland did, tend to come back strong. Look at Eustachy as an example. Coaches have egos, and to be humbled like that lights a fire.

I was lukewarm on Howland until I heard he would likely bring Korey Mcray with him. This would be huge for recruiting in Atlanta area. That gives me more excitement about Howland.

I wouldn't even consider Howland as "flamed out". He win the PAC12 his last year. It seems like the off court "stuff" is what got him, and I tend to think that's overblown.

Howland is down my list of preferred candidates, but I would live with him as our coach, because I know his teams would win big. Our fans would not be happy because he does not do the soft-shoe, tap dance, or wear make up like Ronald McDonald.

I wasn't going to make any statement/prediction on Howland but what the heck I'm a big boy so I will wade right into the pool......

I just don't see the UT Administration signing off on Howland. Even if Hart wanted him, I don't think that he could convince them to look past the negative rumors and reporting surrounding his departure from UCLA. I would say Marshall would be more likely than Howland but frankly even Marshall is a long, long, long shot in my opinion.

Agree, I've said it numerous times, doubt Howland ends up here.

according to rivals, Howlands last 10 recruiting classes consisted of:

8 five stars
19 four stars
6 three stars

this place would worship him and tolerate a 2-4 year rebuild and not even complain about the NIT

Howland should be very near the top of Hart's list--higher than most if not all small- or mid-major coaches. I hope the AD doesn't wimp out.

If you want to be entertained and reach elite 8's as you ceiling you call Bruce and pay 2 mil...If you want final fours you call Ben and pay 2 mil, I'll take "boring basketball" over "exciting" if it's final fours over elite 8's.

I guess zo proved that slow down basketball is superior to running with his two average seasons and a sweet 16 run. Smdh. How many elite 8s did cuonzo make?

To me we all can agree that you can only judge a coach fairly based on his track record. I have no horse in this race other than I want to see Tennessee get the best possible coach from the pool that is available. I don't think Smart, Stephens, or Marshall are available to us. I would ask to make sure. I think you always shop the best looking produce before you decide what you can afford. But you don't want to bargain shop until you see if you can afford the better product. Sometimes the better produce is not the most expensive one. All that being said, I would guess that Howland or Byrd are our two best possible candidates for the head basketball coaching position. To me, that's two really good coaches with a great track record to choose from! Tennessee can't go wrong with Howland or Byrd!

Didn't realize I said Counzo...smh. I said Howland which has been too 3 final fours compared to Bruce's 1 elite 8. But whatever.

I've read some "insider" articles with names listed that TN may be interested in, but they don't list Howland. Why is Hart unwilling to at least interview the man - He wants the JOB!

From the list , it looks like Hart is wanting to go with a younger coach. Howland should have several good years remaing to coach he is 56. I think Tubby is 62. Both are interested but it doesnt appear TN is interested, thus it could be an age issue.

More likely we are looking for someone who will work for minimum wage. Apparently, our $100 million athletic budget program has no money.

I hope they announce Ben as HC...I really believe he is going to go all out to prove people wrong...He will go after every top player in the country too...Might not get them all but he'll get his fair share...I am firmly on the Howland bandwagon...He is really our only realistic shot at a proven HC.

Do your homework before you jump all over this guy. The Vols could do better. He has worn out his welcome everywhere he has been. He got fired at UCLA for not maintaining success.

irony is you need to do the homework you just said in another thread he didnt make the tourney his last year at UCLA which is wrong. you said he didnt get past rd 1 last 5 years - again WRONG. what i said is all true.

also, while doing homework you should practice reading comprehension skills. see that post of mine you quoted? nowhere inside do i endorse his hiring. i simply point out this place(volnation) would worship him because of his recruiting prowess regardless of results (google butch jones if you still dont understad)

and im out

oh yeah for the record i would support his hiring
