Successful coaches who flamed out like Howland did, tend to come back strong. Look at Eustachy as an example. Coaches have egos, and to be humbled like that lights a fire.
I was lukewarm on Howland until I heard he would likely bring Korey Mcray with him. This would be huge for recruiting in Atlanta area. That gives me more excitement about Howland.
I wasn't going to make any statement/prediction on Howland but what the heck I'm a big boy so I will wade right into the pool......
I just don't see the UT Administration signing off on Howland. Even if Hart wanted him, I don't think that he could convince them to look past the negative rumors and reporting surrounding his departure from UCLA. I would say Marshall would be more likely than Howland but frankly even Marshall is a long, long, long shot in my opinion.
If you want to be entertained and reach elite 8's as you ceiling you call Bruce and pay 2 mil...If you want final fours you call Ben and pay 2 mil, I'll take "boring basketball" over "exciting" if it's final fours over elite 8's.
I've read some "insider" articles with names listed that TN may be interested in, but they don't list Howland. Why is Hart unwilling to at least interview the man - He wants the JOB!
From the list , it looks like Hart is wanting to go with a younger coach. Howland should have several good years remaing to coach he is 56. I think Tubby is 62. Both are interested but it doesnt appear TN is interested, thus it could be an age issue.
according to rivals, Howlands last 10 recruiting classes consisted of:
8 five stars
19 four stars
6 three stars
this place would worship him and tolerate a 2-4 year rebuild and not even complain about the NIT
Do your homework before you jump all over this guy. The Vols could do better. He has worn out his welcome everywhere he has been. He got fired at UCLA for not maintaining success.
