Official 2014 Attrition/Transfer Thread

How many were 4* Rivals250 guys they were counting on to help bring the program back?

It is called depth. I assume that it takes 4 years to build depth. Hendrix and scott are not starters. We lose depth. We should be like ole miss next year. Very good starting teams, but lack depth. We should be fine until we have some injuries and our depth shows. Again, you guys are wanting us to be 98 tennessee without having to rebuild. It will take four years and next year will be year three under jones. So calm down and realize what it is. A rebuilding process.

I'm not arguing with you. Look I don't want to lose anybody either, but I realize that we will. You guys expect Jones to keep everybody and the reality is that no coach has ever kept players from leaving. You guys hold Jones to standards that are nonreachable. You aren't hurt with normal amounts of transfers, you're hurt with a kiffin class that ended with 4 seniors. You're hurt when Dooley recruited kids that weren't SEC good. Yes, we will get better quicker if everyone stays in theory. However, what if all the kids that realized TN was not the right place for them stayed. How would that help. They wouldn't practice as hard, play as hard, show new recruits a good time or tell recruits that TN is right for them. You must let the ones go who don't want to be here. It happens everywhere so I don't freak about it. Most kids that transfer do not amount to anything on the field anyways according to research.

Do us all a favor and stop posting nonsense. Dobbs had very few weapons in that game. Why can't you people get that thrust your skulls?????? Also Tebow,McElroy, and others that have actually played the game love Dobbs.
I doubt Dormandy is nothing but another peterman. I don't want another statue at qb. All four teams in the playoffs have running qbs. Dormandy is not that !!!!! And anybody that wants another freshman at qb is crazy.

Well if you think Dormady is a statue you should take your own advice little guy. He has just as much mobility as Dobbs and his shuttle is faster. You obviously don't have a clue what you are talking about. Winston very rarely runs and Sims doesn't very often either. We don't need a QB running it 15-20 times a game. And you are aware that Dobbs was a prostyle QB out of HS and averaged less than 38 rushing yards a game..I'm guessing you probably didn't. Dormady is by far the best player on his team and they didn't want him running the ball. Do your homework instead of blurting out stuff you know nothing about. Also try reading also. I never said I wanted a FR QB to start. I said if Dobb's continues to struggle with accuracy and turnovers and one of the FR outplay him then he won't be starting. And he had plenty of options at WR in the vandy game. Howard, Pearson, J.Johnson, Wolf. Yes they missed Hurd but the way the Oline played Hurd wasn't gonna get many yards rushing. There were very few holes open for Lane. And Dobbs had guys open much of the game but badly missed them and was more accurate to the Vandy secondary than his own receivers. Obviously the coach's didn't trust him to throw downfield or anything outside of swing passes and screens. And I'm not talking bad about Dobbs it's what anyone that watched the game would say.

Yeah, well I'll continue to listen to the experts instead of idiots. Dormandy will never play a lick.

Obviously you don't listen to anyone. The experts rated him as the No. 5 prostyle/dual threat QB in the class. If CBJ and staff didn't think he had a chance to play why in hell would they recruit him?

You should really stop and think before you post sometimes.

And the experts said if Dormady wasn't hurt his JR yr he would have been ranked even higher than he is now, they said he would easily have been a top 100 player. Oh and Gruden was really impressed with Dormady when he was here and he threw for the Coach's. Supposedly was the most impressive and Gruden was really high on him. And not to mention Saban wanted him bad after he threw for Ala. So yes you should listen to the experts it may open your eyes to the type QB they expect Dormady to be. Pretty sure he isn't seen as a guy who gets buried on the QB depth chart. And when I saw Tebow and G.Mac give high praises for Dobbs was after the Carolina and UK game. Not after his last 2 games. We are seeing what concerned Butch about Dobb's..Extremely inconsistent in every phase of his game. Hoping that's not what we continue to get out of him..He really needs to play wel in the bowl game. The excuse about missing players won't fly in that one and really didn't against Vandy. North has been hurt most of the yr and hasn't been much of a factor much of the yr, especially by time Dobb's became starter. So the not having his top receivers in that game is very inaccurate. Crowder and Hurd hurt some in the run game but Vandy had the line stacked knowing Dobbs wasn't going to beat them deep so Hurd probably wouldn't have gotten many holes to run through.

Thankyou! That dude is worse than any hardheaded ass woman. Anyone that truely follows recruiting knows how good of a QB Dormady is and will be. His Dad being a Coach only further helps him. Like one of the 247 guys, can't remember which one but said if he had played his JR yr he easily would have been a top 100 player in this class. And ones thinking he can't run or is a statue back there really don't have a clue. He is a perfect fit for this offense and has a very strong arm along with everything else. It's not like Butch wants his QB running 12-15 times a game anyway. I see Dormady similar to a Heath Shuler type but just taller. Not saying he will be like Heath but his game will be very similar to Heath's. I really wouldn't want our QB running more than 8-10 times at the most. Don't want him taking the hits that Dobbs took a lot of this yr. He really needs to learn how to slide.

I'm calling it right now. Dormandy will never play. I saw where he threw a million pics this year against high school competition. I hope we can sign another qb.
Stop hating on Dobbs who wasn't expected to play at all. You guys hoping for the next Peyton are hilarious. If not for Dobbs putting the team on his shoulder against Carolina, we aren't bowling!!!! Dobbs will be a super star.

Its Dormady not Dormandy. There is no N in his name.

If it's a forgone conclusion that Dormady will be a bust please explain why CBJ and staff would waste all of this time recruiting him?

I mean come on, you don't want to be considered one of the so-called experts and members who you call idiots. Do you? You being the actual expert here on volnation at evaluating the QB position and all. Surely you have a very comprehensive reason for your evaluation.

I guarantee Dormady will start and play a lot of football at UT. No I am not hating on Dobb's. In a perfect world he plays well against Iowa, takes control of the job in the spring and earns the trust of his Coach's by learning how to practice and to get to atleast some sort of consistency and allows the FR to redshirt and not have to start from day 1. But so far Dobb's hasn't shown that yet and when a Coach like Gruden sings your praise and is impressed by him then good chance he is gonna be really good. He did throw some Int's maybe 12 or so but when you have to throw it 45+ times a game and have little to no talent at WR then guys will tend to force things at times when they know they don't have any playmakers or help. Hell Peyton has a 2:1 TD to Int mark so yea it happens when you have to throw it that much. I will trust Butch, Gruden, Saban and Kiffin over your evaluation. And lastly no nobody expects the next Peyton. Those guys come around a small amount every generation. But when we have one of the Top 5 HS kids in this class it's hard not to get excited. Not like we have had much consistency at QB since C.Clausen except a cpl good yrs from Ainge and Bray. It's great to see how opposed you are to a Kid and you're hoping for him to fail. Tells me all I need to know about you. And I will be the first person you hear from when Dormady shows how good he can be and hopefully that's after a much improved Dobbs has led us to a championship of some type. But at the level he is playing right now we will be fighting for bowl eligibility the last few weeks of next season too. Truely do hope the light comes on for him.

Plenty. There's a huge difference between losing a guy who will probably never see the field vs a potential future starter. Anybody wh doesn't think Hendrix or Helm is a huge loss has their head in the sand.

It would be a loss but both probably feel like they are backups and they are discouraged. I wouldn't say a huge loss though because if they are the type of player who thinks they can't keep working hard to prove they should be out there they don't have the right attitude for a championship team. I would tell them yes you have talent and keep working hard; you are close and one injury away but I wouldn't beg them to stay.

Calm down. It's a loss. Let's define huge. If he's huge then how big would Maybin be or Hurd. I think you are young and possibly drunk. Two backups that showed some flash should not classified as huge losses. Brandon Stewart shoed promise as a frosh and we lost him. It turned out to be fine. Again calm down.

I'm 46 and haven't had a drink in over 2 years. It must be some pretty stout stuff.

But still not a Huge loss. Do you really want players who are scared of competition? This is a big transition when kids who were highly recruited think they may not be the star. They should be patient and keep working several players don't get their break until their Junior or Senior year but it is hard telling 18 year olds anything. If they leave they will face the same problems unless they go play down at the FCS level.

Which is why I say it takes 4 years to build depth. People on here don't want to face reality that they should judge jones on when he got here. Meaning give him 4 years because dooley ran the program down. Expecting him to keep an entire class when no other coach can do that is ridiculous and it is those unrealistic expectations that cause our fan base to lose their crap when normal things happen. I think our fans have been so long from normalty that they don't know how to act when our program acts like one of the big boys.

And that SMOKEY, is the main disconnect with so many people here! JMO!

Alex Ellis popped up out of nowhere and outperformed Helm...Wolf was already better...we'll be aight on that front. If you had told me during the season that we'd lose Hendrix for the rest of the season, my likely response would have been "thought we already had". :wink2:

That's just it. I think there's more going on than fear of competition. In the last couple of weeks we've heard that Hendrix, Helm, Scott, and Sawyers are considering transfer. Somebody also mentioned Payne in this thread. That's 5 of the top recruits from this class.

I just dont think it is alot considering the size of the class and I bet not all of them leave. I am not worried and even more 4 and 5 stars are coming soon.

All of the guys rumored to be leaving are 4 and 5 star guys. It doesn't do any good to bring them in if you can't keep them long enough to contribute.

Yes they were top recruits, that never saw the field. with the way jones is recruiting it won't be that big of a deal. And it isn't like we are losing a lot on the D line this year. If Sawyers and Hendrix didn't play much this year, it's only gonna get harder. Jones is recruiting some beast.

I get what you are saying, but I also know this. I looked up AL last four classes the other day and found several 4 and 5 star WR and RB that aren't there anymore or never contributed. It was a bit of a surprise and made me realize they are so deep now that they can lose those guys and the rest of us don't even know it. Now, we aren't there yet, I get that. But, we are hopefully heading there. We'll see how many actually leave versus how many come in and what the roster looks like going forward.

Helm and Hendrix saw plenty of playing time. Hendrix is a probable starter by 2016 if he stays.
