I think there is nothing to see here, this is just the nature of college football when you have good players competing for spots and playing time. We have not had the ability to recognize depth and consistent talent for a few years, we are not used to seeing 4* players leave due to competition or no playing time, but it is common throughout the NCAA. You have to think these guys came from their high school being the alpha male, and everything being about them, now they have to fight for a spot and if they don't get it they are just hidden away from all the publicity.
Look at the positions of the players:
Scott RB - We have Hurd who is clearly our feature back, plus we are bringing in Kamara, and others. He just does not want the extra competition when he already has not seen the field much. Obviously not knocking him, do not know the real situation, but this seems likely.
Hendrix and Henderson DE - We return a good majority of the D line, plus are adding some blue chip players as well. Our line needed the depth and subs this year, if the players were not making it on the field yet, then they probably were being outperformed by others. I hate to say it, because I was excited about Hendrix.
Helm TE - Wolf seems to be our TE moving forward, plus with the step up play of Alex Ellis, Helm probably just feels that he has no use on the team.
I do not know the specific scenarios and I know sometimes family or personal issues present themselves, as well as a player just not liking the school where he is at. But if you look at the positions, the players, and the talent we are brining in, it just seems that they do not want to compete or think the coaches are just recruiting over them. I know we have seen our fair share of recruits leave due to various reasons, but I think this is simply a counter effect of bringing in good players and having healthy competition within the program. If players do not want to stay to work hard, outperform another player to earn a spot, then we do not need them at the University of Tennessee.
