Official 2014 Attrition/Transfer Thread

Do y'all think Peterman will transfer? It would be rough to have 2-3 pure freshmen backing up Josh Dobbs if that happens. I can't blame Peterman if he transfers to FCS. Who wouldn't want to be a starter somewhere instead of being a backup.

VolQuest.com first reported last week that Derrell Scott and Dewayne Hendrix had elected not to participate in the initial bowl practices and were contemplating their futures in Knoxville. That continues to be the case, with growing skepticism that either player returns next semester. Scott's issues seem to be related to homesickness and it's likely he would return to North Carolina and go to school. But that doesn't necessarily mean an ACC school. It could potentially be somewhere like East Carolina. Joe Henderson also will not return next semester, and Michael Sawyers, who was ordered away from the team midseason to handle some off-the-field issues, also is a question mark to return next semester. There have been some rumblings the last few days regarding tight end Daniel Helm. Jones meets with his players following the season to discuss various things. Many of those meetings will start to take place as early as today (Friday). Everyone will be looking for Helm on Sunday afternoon to make sure he is there as he has apparently battled homesickness throughout the fall as well. Coupled with the earlier departure of Treyvon Paulk, Tennessee could potentially be down as many as six members of its 2014 signing class. We are aware of the rumors surrounding Paulk. Paulk has remained in school this semester, but right now it's too early to say what his status moving forward is. There's certainly nothing concrete about a return at this point.

Sounds like an extremely harsh way of viewing players. They are people, not just empty soulless beings that have no emotions. Maybe they have some personal issues that we don't know about.

Don't want to judge to quickly.
Go away, You treat the horses better than the players at Ky

All speculation at this point where you say that all the fresh will be good. We havent seen enough from any of them to say they would be classified as a lock to be good. I thought that with many fresh and nothing happened in their career afterwards. Claret from osu is a good example and brent schaefer as another. So please, act like we have been there before. Every program is dealing with people leaving. Lastly, anyone upset that Peterman is gone is insane. I know what he can do. I would rather have a freshmen that I'm not sure of play rather than a guy I know will be terrible. We have our experienced qb in Dobbs now, we don't need just a bunch of older guys who are mtsu good.

Not sure Dobb's qualifies as experienced yet. Thing that concerns me with Dobbs is both yrs he got worse as the season went on. Can't blame it on the oline because that was a problem from game one and he played well his first few games but last 2 have been terrible. If it had just been a bad game against Mizzou I wouldn't worry but he looked worse against a horrid Vandy secondary. And really can't fully blame it on injured receivers because many times he had guys wide open and missed them badly.Just hope this is something that is fixable and not something that becomes more normal every game. He really needs to have a good game against Iowa. If not then I will start getting more concerned about if any of his issues are fixable or not. Especially the inaccuracy and being INT prone. He was lucky Vandy dropped several more int's or we may have lost that game. Hoping these 15 extra practices really help him develop and work on the things he isn't doing well. That's why we need Peterman for depth if nothing else. If we don't get a 3rd QB and say Peterman leaves and say Dormady has to have another shoulder surgery that count potentially leave us with Dobbs then a guy in Jennings that could develop into a really good QB or end up playing another position. We are in trouble if Jennings is the backup next season. He needs time to redshirt and learn how to play QB at an SEC level. But if Dormady is ok or we get a 3rd QB then Peterman still hurts from a depth issue but not as bad if we can get Jones or Francois. But think landing one of them is huge now for this class if indeed Dormady has to have another surgery and Peterman leaving. Hoping like hell we aren't in a critical situation at QB depth next yr. Nate would be the third QB in less than a yr that we lose counting Worley and Fergs.

No. You didn't disprove my point.

If you have talented players, you never want it not to work out with them. If Jones didn't want these guys then he would have asked them or pushed them to leave. There is no evidence he did that with the possible exception of Bowles.

Exactly..and aren't these the type things that kills a schools APR and you risk losing scholly's and other problems. Just not ideal to have potentially so many Fr especially wanting to transfer. Glad atleast Bowles graduated early and it's not as bad with R.Jones leaving but with potentially 4-5 FR wanting to transfer isn't what you really want. Reading some people saying it wont hurt with guys leaving but it goes well beyond just depth. Plus a TR FR hasn't been in the program long enough for some to say they won't produce and are getting recruited over. Not many TR Fr are getting recruited over as some say at this point and time.

According to some reports it's pretty much a done deal. Read an article on SB nation that he is pretty much gone, just waiting for the announcement just like with Bowles, Jones, Scott, Henderson and Hendrix. No other names were mentioned but I'm sure more speculation like with Helm and others will pop up. We just can't afford to lose many FR, IMO. That's what concerns me about Nate leaving. Could potentially have 3 True FR backing up Dobbs, one could be off his second shoulder surgery in 2 yrs, Jennings's isn't even guaranteed to be a QB, although I believe he does well at QB and if we even get a 3rd QB committ. Plus you could potentially have nobody pushing Dobbs and with some of the hits he takes it's not a given he makes it through the entire year. Just hope like hell Dormady isn't hurt too bad and that we can get a 3rd QB or find a fifth yr sr who has graduated who can transfer in. Jenning's really needs to RS and we are in serious trouble if we have Jennings 2nd on the depth chart and the other scholly QB we have is recovering from a second shoulder surgery. I have had 3 Labrum surgeries, one was scoped and the other 2 he had to actually cut on me and put anchors in. I know he would have access to much better and round the clock rehab but it still takes a while to build back strength in the shoulder, especially if it's the throwing shoulder. No Nate is not great but he will have been in the program long enough where he could atleast be serviceable and would allow atleast 2 of the incoming QB's to RS, but hoping like hell now we get a 3rd or Dormady isn't as injured as some fear.

Many of the same people claiming that the departures won't hurt the roster... are the same ones who excuse the lack of wins on depth and talent.

The one constant is the desire to spin anything that happens away from reflecting badly on the coaching staff.

Also the one thing most crowed about is the recruiting success of this staff. Recruiting classes can only truly be judged by what they actually do on the field. Vol fans felt great on NSD 2007 and 2009.... about players who would never make a contribution on the field.

Potentially losing five 4* players is bad any way you spin it.

Agree 100%! I'm not gonna jump to any conclusions or make assumptions on the why, but like you stated "Potentially losing five 4* is bad any way you spin it".

If that one issue alone doesn't raise an eyebrow, especially after so many have trumpeted the recruiting abilities of the staff, I'm not sure what will. I'm not saying that it's a prelude to disaster, but it's got to be concerning.

Last years class is all of a sudden starting to fall apart and it will have an impact on our depth. But, like you stated, most will just spin this off to deflect anything negative attributed to this staff. Looks like it could take another year on top of the other year for him to get "his guys" if things keep going like they appear to be going.

I just hope in two years we're not reading something like "he can sure get'em, but can't hold on to'em".

With freshman class of 33 I figured 25 would make it to their Senior year. attrition happens everywhere. Not many 30+ scholarship senior classes if ever.

actually, he lost crowder. Not the same oline as before he was injured. They were getting better then crowder goes down. Also, against vandy we had no one healthy. It was Dobbs and that was it.
