I don’t think there’s a big difference in power but the edge definitely goes to Xbox. And that’s likely what the benchmarks will show over the longer term. The Xbox is the more powerful console. All this posturing by Sony fans over a few early benchmarks is premature.

And it’s not about refining the dev tools, it’s about using all of the Xbox tools available to take advantage of the superior hardware.
I just dont see it as an "edge" if you have to use measuring tools and zoom in 500x to detect the differences. When you get to that point, you are really splitting hairs and you might as well call it a draw.

I’m talking more about frame rates since I expect resolutions to be similar. But I agree. I don’t tend to notice much difference if a game is 4K or down scaled to 1440p.

Which cross-platform games does PS5 currently have an edge in? Is it just Valhalla right now?

I think that's an interesting case because it's also cross-gen.

I forget. I think there were all cross gen cross platform games if I’m not mistaken.

Uh huh. Because PS5 dev tools are completely stagnant and won't continue to be refined and improved as well. Face it. The power difference is completely negligible.
Dude no offense but sometimes you go full-on fan boy. Both consoles are awesome. It comes down to personal preference just like it has the last 20 years.

Yeah, things are weird right now because of so many development platforms. Will be interesting once we are down to exclusively cross-platform games and PS4/X1 are out of the equation.

Yeah I know. I just think its funny how MS crowed over this whole power narrative for almost a year, yet the results we are seeing right now are in direct contrast to that. Their whole "it eats monsters for breakfast" comment at last year's Game Awards looks kind of ridiculous now.

Kinda like Sony spent 70% of their conference talking about this generation is all about SSDs and the Sony SSD was eleven-billionty times faster than anything from this planet? Yet many early games show Xbox actually loading faster. :)

He's a huge Sony fan boy. And that's fine. I just find myself always having to defend xbox around him for some reason. lol.

Not yet. I platinumed Astrobot and beat Bugsnax. Right now I'm playing Ghost of Tsushima and Sackboy's Adventure.
I really want to pick up Ghosts of Tsushima but I have so many games in my list right now. lol. Have you tried the coop mode? I'm curious how that works exactly.

I find it all interesting for some reason. Even though I don't think it matters that much. People aren't swayed by this stuff. They play based on where friends play, if they prefer game pass, or which exclusives they like better. Yet I still love watching Digital Foundry on YouTube. lol.

Yeah most people don't really care. The Madden, Call of Duty, Fifa guys barely even know what framerate is, lol. I think that console gamers in general are only slowly waking up to that stuff. I had no idea there was a difference between 30 FPS and 60 FPS until I got into PC gaming and building back in 2004 or so. Then I got out of the scene for several years and had to re-learn with all the display technology like G-Sync, Freesync, high refresh rate, etc.

I'm with you. I never understood the difference until I played on PC. After that it was nearly impossible to go back to 30fps.

I think most console players are in the same boat, otherwise last generation would have been more about frame rate than marketing 4K. I'm just glad the focus seems to be on frame rate this time around.

There's already differences in frames with some games. For example, in Devil May Cry 5 Deluxe, XSX beats out PS5 in 60fps mode with a more consistent framerate, while strangely enough, the PS5 outperforms the XSX in 120fps mode with a more consistent framerate. But we are only talking about a difference of a handful of frames here and there, either way. Its not enough that anybody is going to notice just playing the game. The only way to even tell is to watch Digital Foundry's video where they measure the frames side by side using their measuring software. But nobody plays like that. Thats why I said its a wash if you have to use that to declare a "winner."

Some of the dips in games I've seen have been noticeable. But that's probably due to developers still adopting to the new consoles, which has been my point all along with these benchmarks.

There's no winner and it won't always be the same winner for every game anyway. Some are optimized better for one console over the other. The average user isn't going to notice most of this stuff regardless. But the xbox is the more powerful console and I'm confident future benchmarks will show that. Does anyone really care? Nah, but it's marketing. And I don't blame Microsoft for marketing it, regardless of how much different real world performance is. Sony is doing the same thing with their SSD, although no one really cares if a game loads a few seconds faster. In fairness, if you want to call out one side, you should call out both because they're both playing the same marketing games.

By the way, anyone played Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War on the XSX? It runs like complete trash right now. I've always thought CoD games ran a little better on Playstation, but this xbox version is criminally bad. Hopefully a patch is coming sooner rather than later. PS5 version is smooth.

Just look at Gears 5 on series X. It's a stunner. It is the only game out that looks "next gen" and is a rock solid 60 fps. Once third parties can optimize the way that dev did it will be a different ballgame.

What are the problems? I finished the story and have played some multi-player and have not noticed anything.

It crashes for a lot of people, me included. And it felt very stuttery. That's just multiplayer though. I didn't try the campaign on xbox.

So the 3080 absolutely screams, lol. It's wild to have the 2nd fastest GPU on the market right now. Never had one that wasn't mid-range.

It's so fast that my monitor is now my bottleneck in a lot of games! Witcher 3 is maxed out, 3440x1440, and FPS are going over my refresh rate of 100 hz.

But of course, now I'm eyeing a full new build! I figure that If I'm gonna drop this much money on a GPU, I might as well go completely crazy and buy a Zen 3 system to pair with it. Just gotta wait for those 5900s/5950s to come back in stock!

That's going to be a monster. I'm going to go from a 3900x to the 5950x at some point. Is there a mobo being marketed right now to take advantage of the 59xx's or should it be fine on my current AM4 board?

Find it disappointing that the PS5 doesn’t take advantage of HDMI 2.1 and you can’t run full 2160 and 120fps......and yea I can tell the difference between 2160 and the supersampled stuff. Hopefully it’s not a hardware issue and something that can be fixed with a firmware update.

It doesn't? What's the story here? I don't have a monitor/tv capable of 4k 120 over hdmi yet so I can't test. What's the issue?
