Netflix

I won't but you may. I'm at like $68 for more/better content than ever.
I haven’t had cable since 2012 but all this fragmentation is going to drive some people back into cable. I have Sling for football season but outside of the ESPNs most of the channels offered are trash. The better content is being taken in house behind another paywall.

Sucks that youtubetv raised their prices they were by far the best deal. I think they still are with the live local channels and sports and unlimited dvr. Im paying $49 a month for that, add on netflix and prime I'm looking at about $72 or so a month,

I'm getting DirecTV's 3rd tier package for $40, but DVR is not unlimited. They gave me a 12 month deal because I told them I was switching to youtube. I figure I'll get it again when the year is up.

I think both are evil. I'm not saying netflix does not come out with any new stuff, I just dont care for much of it.
Netflix is more adult niche, disney is for families. To each their own but disney is in its own stratosphere of evil, netflix just changed the paradigm.

But why?

I mean, I get why people would think Disney is evil...they are overly protective of their IP* and they are price gougers, but even still I wouldn't call them evil. Netflix is a godsend, tho. They disrupted (in a good way) both the video rental industry and cable. They probably will eventually become the evil empire, but they're still the ish, IMO.

*for example, Mickey Mouse should have become public domain 33 years ago, and they keep throwing their political weight around to get exceptions.

That is interesting about Mickey being public domain. They must be able to update or renew their copyright protection.

Yeah, they get exceptions because of their clout. It's up again in 2023 and I'd say there is almost no chance he becomes public domain because Disney makes the rules that they play by.

Is that evil to protect what is essentially their brand? Mickey Mouse is essentially one of their logos.

Now that Stan Lee has passed I’m going to guess the clock is ticking for the core Marvel characters. Even if Marvel didn’t own Disney you can bet Marvel would be getting their ducks in a row to protect those characters.

Copyright laws weren’t written with expectation that multigenerational corporations would form around the IP.

Copyright laws were originally for a 14 year span. It's ridiculous what it's become.

Disney is evil because they have bought everything its essentially a monopoly of entertainment.

He’s got me ignored, but a monopoly on entertainment is a joke.

CBS, NBC compete on sports networking. Never mind all of the pro leagues have their own networks as well.
NBC and CBS compete on network TV.
Universal, Six Flags, Seaworld, Etc on theme parks.
Netflix ITT has been noted as a streaming and content competitor. As well as Sony, Amazon, etc.
Plenty of cruise lines.

Worst monopoly ever. All I read is fear that Netflix will lose to the appeal of Disney+. Add in the doubts that the debt fueled business model run by Netflix will last as competitors continue to emerge.

Disclaimer-I own shares of Disney.
