NASCAR bans the confederate flag

It's open to the public. It's not a private club. But that's a side issue. Whether it's privately owned or rented from the event, I don't like folks controlling free speech. I'm kinda libertarian in that matter

It's not open to the public. If you buy a ticket, you have a license to attend the event as long as you follow their rules.

What about the wife beater shirt dude sporting the CSA flag tattooed on his arm? They gonna kick him out of the track?

Yes. If they are in a public space or a private space that allows such. But I notice you didn't answer my question.
NFL stadiums are privately owned as well, so do you think owners should be able to tell players they can't protest?

I don’t really care about either subject.... I’m ok with kneeling but will not kneel myself.... I’m ok with people complaining about kneeling bc that is kind of the point is to get a reaction..... I also understand why they want to ban the confederate flag due to the way it makes certain feel but I also understand to most people it just stands for southern pride. My main opinion is that I wish people would shut the h$ll up so I can just enjoy sports again.

Free speech is a government issue. A private business has much more leeway to do what they want and it's not very "libertarian" to say they don't.

Plenty of people park on private property and fly whatever flag they want so I’m assuming this will only affect the RV people on the infield. What if they plaster flag magnets on their RVs or or have flag bumper stickers or window decals? It’s a slippery slope to tell people what they can and can’t put on their vehicles on private property or not. Is Walmart or any other business gonna have a guy patrol the parking lot looking for bumper sticker offenders? Will they treat the guy with a black panther sticker the same as the person with a confederate flag sticker?

I'm just curious if they'll actually turn people away over this. You know people will push it. And if they do turn people away, will we see lawsuits over refunding ticket prices? It'll be interesting if the courts get pulled in.
I don’t think “I can’t bring my flag now” will be something you could sue on. My guess is they will see a decline in attendance and viewership for a year or two. Then it levels out. They were protecting their tv contracts with fox. Business decision. Those praising them for standing up for social justice are not seeing the bigger picture. Those thinking this is their downfall aren’t either. They are protecting a $7 billion dollar brand. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I don't like private organizations controlling freedom of expression in public spaces. It's legal I suppose but it's not right. I don't think Alabama should ban Tennessee attire when we play them at their place

Neither does Bama because that would be stupid. It's totally different, and in either case it's still their prerogative

I can see that point of view. But I would say do those people like it bc of flags or bc of the racing? They will take a hit. But I think it will
Rebound. People tend to choose their pleasures
Over their principals. And just to give everyone a heads up, if you
have a big problem with this, then you better be willing to
Give up all sports. Protesting will be a thing by athletes

And has been since... forever.

True on that second part. This isn't moral outrage, this is monetarily driven. Sure, it's change, but it's not change for the right reasons. People haven't suddenly seen the light. They're chasing that almighty dollar.

I'm gonna respond to all your hypotheticals with, "if you're on my private property, I'll tell you to do whatever I want within the bounds of the law."

Again, this isn't a big issue to me. But by open to the public, my point is that anyone is allowed to buy a ticket.

Maybe the patrons should have a peaceful protest on the track after 10 laps at every race that lasts for 3 days.

You're not wrong, but I hate how it hijacks the game. I'd be more impressed if they did it on their own time.

That's different. Players are employees and they are on the job when they're in uniform. Having said that, I think the NFL should let the Colin Kaepernick guys make asses of themselves if they want but that's just me.

On one hand it would be trespassing. If I pay you to be there it becomes different altogether.

For someone who doesn’t care you sure do care a lot

Of course it's their prerogative. No one's saying that it'd be criminal. It's my prerogative to become a Vandy fan but it's not wise

If you buy a ticket there's gonna be fine print which requires you to abide by certain rules. When you pay for the ticket you don't get carte blance to do whatever the hell you want.
