most overrated vols

Casey "Mother Fluffin" Clausen

Rick was a disappointment too. He even underachieved at being an underachiever.

Smokey was horrible. He never even suited up for games. Only thing he ever did was howl and bark from time to time.

[Running like heck to climb into the wheel well of a plane accelerating for takeoff before Vols fans catch and tear me apart.]

Crompton was overrated coming out of high school... Best scout QB ever.. Didn't do jack for us.. Made me cringe everytime he dropped back :\

A 13 year NFL veteran, multiple Pro Bowl player isn't over rated.

The dumbass coaching staff tried him at MLB while he was here.

Had to get him on the field. I think Steve White and Jonathan Brown were his comp. Early on in 95-96 on the ends. He did play end after White left didn't he? Agree he was not a LB. LL was fun to watch!

I agree. Also throw in Bill Bates, Nick Reveiz, Deron Jenkins and Ronald Davis.

Agree about "toast" Jenkins and Ron D. They just didn't show every game. Remember Vandy burning Jenkins over and over? That was not good.

Yeah, I never see him coming and supporting the team anymore. What an ungrateful jerk.

You're right, because he died he's automatically considered an amazing college fb player. How inane of me.

Darden always comes to mind.

bust, which is different from overrated. Overrated should be somebody who started or played regularly and while thought to be fairly solid or better....wasn't. Jason Allen and Riggs and Hefney definitely fit the bill--good calls....Must be several starting OL over the last 10 years who should also be considered--but I'd have to go through the rosters to name them.

Leonard Scott. Dude had world class speed but couldn't return a kick off if his life depended on it. He'd run it out to the 20 and call it a day. And he dropped a ton of passes. i recall he was wide open down the sideline by himself after he burned the CB and the ball hit him in the hands and he dropped it. Him and Derick Tinsley were extremely talented but didn't do anything.

We were playing Miami in Ktown, our offense suxed--and we have the ball close to the Miami goal line. We were behind--second half, maybe four quarter. That brainaic OC of ours, Sanders, calls a FADE pattern to Scott on either third or four and goal--I think it was fourth. Fade patterns are for tall receivers with good hands--Scott was short and had bad hands. Needless to say, the play didn't work--so stupid. Scott did play quite a bit but I wouldn't call him overrated because he never really did anything to suggest that he was talented or half-way good. And, yea, he was a TERRIBLE kick returner--but then Fulmer was clueless about returning kicks as our special teams were comically inept for several years.

Got to weigh in for Reggie - as I have him in a class with H. Walker as one of the truly dominant players in NCAA FB history. The fact that Reggie was even better as a NFL player shows how special he was.

My point = we have had many players used poorly by coaches [White was around for our "3-4" mess].

Best example - Anyone remember poor Charles McRae trying to play Nose-guard against UGA in 1988?

Which leads me to - McRae and Davis!

Over-rated as NFL prospects but fine Vols! And that is the acid test.

In sum, if we remember them they probably contributed as Vols and deserve a WOO-HOO.

How can Reveiz be overrated when he had to work for everything? he didnt get a scholarship. u never heard about him nationally. He proved me wrong when i saw him in the florida game chasing down demps. didnt he have like 14 tackles? overrated psh

I'm not saying Reggie white is bad or was bad for UT. He was a world class athlete. He receives too much praise as a college fb player though. Many other former UT football players contributed far more to UT football with significantly less talent. That=
overrated.
