More NFL Draft buzz for Josh Dobbs

I wasn't trying to be negative towards you in anyway for the Mariota comparison. Just that his stats were much better than Dobbs's. Very good post, thanks.

I didn't think you were being negative to me. I just agreed with you and wanted to clarify my earlier post a little bit as some people were fairly critical. Which looking back at the post is fairly warranted, my first post in this thread wasn't particularly good.

Dobbs has been a very good QB for us. We had to see him probably earlier than the coaches wanted us to due to the Worley injury but that is part of rebuilding a team. Peyton Manning is not walking through that door and suiting up any time soon. Dobbs has improved as the season has went along with his passing accuracy and has even improved the deep throws. Compare him with other college QB's and I don't see too many I would rather have.

The knock on Dobbs is sometimes he can be to robotic with his throws. There are many times he has missed players streaking for the endzones. The schemes are great. He just needs to fire the ball and not be afraid.

In all seriousness, who doesn't think Dobbs would excel in the NFL?

You have to have the measurables - and he does.

After that, the NFL is a bit stale to me; too clinical. It's far, far more cerebral than college.

Who doesn't believe Dobbs would excel in that environment?

In addition, who doesn't believe Dobbs has the character to have a 15 year career in the NFL? Take care of himself; change his game as the years tick by???

I think the only thing holding Dobbs back from NFL greatness is if he decides NASA / Boeing is his true destiny.

You've lost your mind, Eddie.

Dobbs is wildly inaccurate. He badly handles the rush.

He can run. That's his only weapon.

He's a great guy. Smart as they come. But he in no way has a 15 year NFL career in his future.

You're looking through those beautiful Orange glasses again.

Punters get drafted.

Being a 7th rounder that doesn't play doesn't cut it.

That's my point. Not saying he won't be drafted. Just saying he'll never start or make a difference in the NFL.

well on the flip side..we had a punter that didn't get drafted and now starts in the NFL

That article is very complimentary of Dobbs, but I honestly don't think he has shown the arm to play at the next level. Watching Mariota in his first game with the Titans it was evident to me that his arm strength and accuracy are well beyond Dobbs.

Dobbs has a strong arm, so but he does need to be more consistent with his accuracy.

there's a qb right now who has a meager 52.5% completion rating (149-275), 13 TDs, and just under 2,000 yards passing that is ahead of Dobbs in next year's draft. To put that in perspective, right now 44 qbs have more yards. All 44 of them have a higher completion percentage than said player.

To further break this down Dobbs is 9th in the SEC for QBR. 6th in passing yards, 5th in TDs. Yeah, Dobbs is a superstar.

NFL teams don't draft based on stats. They watch film.

FYI almost every expert on the SEC networks rates Dobbs as the 2nd best QB in the SEC. Regardless of what those stats say.

SEC QB play this year is the worst I can ever remember. Thats not really something to hang your hat on in 2015.

Proof of that?

Edit: for the record, I want proof that scouts ignore stats and the whole line about sec reporters

Dobbs needs to do everything he can to get an NFL job. Starter, backup, 3rd string...doesn't matter. Do that for a few years, make $500K+ per year, but live like he is still in college.

Then, when his NFL days are done, use all the money he made as seed money to start his own aerospace design company.

1. Play QB for SEC team
2. Take full advantage of educational opportunities while on scholarship
3. Profit

And those same "experts" probably rate Tebow as the best QB in college football history. So what when he can't beg someone/anyone in NFL enough to take him even as third string. And it's not because he is not a great leader or does not have strong arm - it's because of flawed mechanics and tendency to telegraph passes and look robotic when throwing. Sadly Dobbs shares a lot or characteristics (good and bad) with Tebow which is sad for him in terms of NFL prospects but probably good for us in terms of chances to win a lot with him next year.

When Josh's touchdown to interception ratio approaches anything near 42 to 4, like Mariota's was his senior year....or 105 to 14 like Mariota's was in his career.....or when he throws for 4000+ yds.....or when he completes 67% of his passes....then I'll compare the two.

I love me some Josh Dobbs, but there's just no comparison to speak of right now.

You're so obsessed with stats. There isn't a reputable talent evaluator at any level of football that bases their evaluation on stats. Stats are too dependant on the system you play, teammates around you, and the opposition you play.

There is a reason guys with gaudy college stats aren't lock 1st round picks or guys with insane stats in high school being 5 star prospects.

Not saying Dobbs is even in Mariota's league as a prospect but stats aren't a fool proof way of making your point.

Yet Mariota went #2 overall behind a guy who did nothing but win. Neither of those things are important though.

Obviously he must have worked for the Detroit Lions at some point. Andre Ware was BEAST in college. Why didn't they win multiple super bowls with him? Must have been the coaches fault. :eek:lol:

Many of you know that this season I been saying that they are an 8 win team. And they may even exceed that with 9 wins...with that being said, next year is finally the real next year. I truly believe they will lose 1 game barring injuries or anything crazy......This is going to be a very special team. I hope you guys are ready. This team is very special. I am very excited. I think they need to make a few assistant adjustments, but everything is gonna be just fine. The win against South Carolina was what they needed to get the "we can't stop a 4th quarter comeback" monkey off their back. Just be ready. They finally field a squad that is full of NFL talent.

Thanks , I respect your thoughts more than anyone else's here .

Utterly ridiculous.

How so? I stated a fact about SEC network analysts rating Dobbs the 2nd best QB in the conference. That claim was met with criticism.

I'm not sure there is another fanbase that gets insulted by the notion their QB is better than his peers. Its usually the other way around. Fans are typically higher on their players than the outside world.

For some reason its the Other way with Dobbs. If you can give me an alternative explanation, I would gladly welcome it.

If Josh keeps improving on his consistency like he has the past 2 games, he could go into 2016 as one of the top QB prospects for the 2017 draft.

He has to learn to the throw the ball 1st. I don't know what this guy is watching, talking about Dobbs checking down to his 2nd and 3rd receivers. He needs major improvement in that area to even think about the draft. His timing needs work as well. Oh and the ability to consistently throw the ball over the top. Other than that, he's ready right now.
