Maurer Hit & Possible Concussion?

Just judging from the head hitting the turf, and the collapse on the sideline. No official word...just discussing precaution.

It's GROUND not turf. I know it can be called either. But to most folks calling it turf means the dreaded man made stuff. As youngster I hit my head on the "ground" many times and saw others do the same. A few times saw guys "get their bells rung" but not nearly every time like the "safe turf" inflects. ( I'm sure there are folks that say about me "oh, that's what's been wrong with him all these years")

Given that, do you play him vs Bama at all? Or do you just send JG out to take the beating?

Really don't think I will be any tougher on him with Bama. Now, if he is really banged up, don't over do it, but let him play. The only way to really learn the job is on the job training.

I talked to him after the game and the only thing he complained about was a sore hip and the loss. Didn’t look concussed, confused or anything of the sort. Didn’t appear nauseated or have a blank stare. He seemed ok but I agree there’s no foul in being sure.

It wasn't technically a blindside hit since he is a right-handed QB and he got hit from his right side. He just happened to be looking to his left when the hit came.

What ever you want to call it, he got the hell knocked out of him....

What is not up for debate: He was OUT cold. Starting QB takes a huge hit and passes out on the sidelines. If it’s no big deal, you talk about it and move on. Nobody’s talking.

I'll debate it. He clearly moved his left hand when they picked him off the ground. He was clearly not unconscious. He was in pain so he closed his eyes. They took him into the medical tent and looked at him. Good grief.

It’s been mentioned in other threads, but I don’t see one dedicated to it. If we really care for our players, we should be making a little noise about this. Does anyone have any real credible evidence that he did not pass out cold?

I’ve seen the video - it’s all over twitter. Put the kid in Concussion Protocol. He’s our guy, and will be this year. It is easy to see how much life he brings to the program AND to see that he would be the last guy to put himself in the protocol. That’s why it is designed to be objective - to protect the player. One game in this heinous season is not worth the risk to his career and life-after-football.

It didn't look to me as if he passed out but rather was just trying to get to the ground because of the pain in his ribs/abdomen area. When he tried to lay down the trainers immediately got him to his feet. If he had actually been passed out he would have been dead weight when they tried to stand him up but he had his legs under him when the trainers lifted him.

2. Does not look off safety
3. Very limited in his ability to go through progressions.

He is a decent athlete, who could become service-able in the future iF (an only if) he plays for a very good program. Since TN is not a very good program right BM is not a long term answer. Instead, he is the immediate stop-gap answer until HB arrives on campus.

Not passed out. If you saw it real time, when he got to the sideline he was going to lay down. The staff wouldn't let him and pulled him back up.

That's a lot of responsibility to put on a highly recruited kid that is still playing HS football, and is months away from actually signing his letter of intent.

I don't think he was OUT cold simply because he closed his eyes after going to his knees and rolling over. How does he go from being out cold to standing on his own feet and talking - instantly - after being pulled to his feet? His head didn't snap back nor hit the ground on the play.

Maybe no one's talking because there's nothing to talk about.

I've not insinuated Pruitt is hiding anything. No one is talking about the fact that he was out cold. It's not been addressed. Saying that he is "fine" is not addressing what the video clearly shows. Someone said that he was in pain and was trying to get to the ground. He is not wincing in pain. His mouth is slack, his brow is 100% relaxed, and his head is dead-weight. If you are in enough pain to make you go to the ground, do you have the face of an angel with your mouth dropped open? There is no muscle contraction in his face whatsoever. He's out. - and yes, you can be out for a very short time and come to fairly quickly. He was most likely coming back as they were jerking him back up to his feet.

2) I'm not accusing or insinuating that any individual is or isn't doing anything.

That was a wicked hit but was clean and text book. I’m sure if they felt he needed to be in concussion protocol he would be, if he’s not already. It looked to me like ribs and wind knocked out of him. Blind side hit and not expecting it, he couldn’t exactly brace for it. Hopefully he’ll be alright and ready to go later this week but if not I’m sure the staff will make the right decision.

We see it 2 completely different ways then, which means it is not as 'clear cut' as you insist.

That’s complete BS. In other words he plays like a freshman...... HB will do the same thing. In fact he does it now in Hs. BM on the other hand had a game last year in Hs where 4 receivers had over 100 yards. And nearly did it twice last season. That doesn’t happen with a qb that stares down his receivers as a part of his natural game. That fact alone just debunked everything you thought you knew.
