Maurer Hit & Possible Concussion?

I’m not sure being “out cold” is the criteria for a concussion. FTR, I’ve not read every post in the thread, but it seems that that’s the argument being made.
You even “angelic face” bruh?

Body Shots, aka shots to the SP, are a central theme in USMC Martial Arts as well as my time in Tae Kwon Do.

They're extremely effective and are often left completely open by novice opponents. If you get hit hard there, you feel like you're going to die.
Yeah I found a USMC field training book as a kid, practiced the moves minus the nose punch and heel stomp to the face on my little brothers. Solar plexus and kidney shots were true winners!

I have been knocked out in a game once. It was immediate, but no puking... just couldn’t remember the play from the huddle to the line. It was before we knew what we know now. - don’t think I even left the game at all.
All of mine came from soccer (weird I know) but after coming around I usually got hit with a wave of nausea. My first concussion made me feel sick for almost a day, but I was pretty young. My last one was weird. I remember the hit and I could still hear the game going on around me but I couldnt move or open my eyes. Then I barfed.

Obviously, I believe he was concussed. - "diagnosed" using my online fizician skills. I'm open to it not being a concussion. - and remain very, very curious what the cause was if it wasn't one.

So do you believe the UT medical staff would gloss over this and not do their due diligence. Good grief.
You start a thread and call in to question the professionals on the UT medical staff.

It’s been mentioned in other threads, but I don’t see one dedicated to it. If we really care for our players, we should be making a little noise about this. Does anyone have any real credible evidence that he did not pass out cold?

I’ve seen the video - it’s all over twitter. Put the kid in Concussion Protocol. He’s our guy, and will be this year. It is easy to see how much life he brings to the program AND to see that he would be the last guy to put himself in the protocol. That’s why it is designed to be objective - to protect the player. One game in this heinous season is not worth the risk to his career and life-after-football.

A good shot to the solar plexus and you have a real hard time breathing. A shot to the nose, solar plexus, or kidney are three quick ways to slow an opponent down or drop them outright in a fight. I believe its taught in the Marines. I could be wrong. My combat training in the USAF was how to properly run and hide.

I was just a running back. I would get my a** kicked by any of you guys that have actually been trained.

Bones I've broken playing football:

Bones I've broken in 8 years of Tae Kwon Do and Judo:

Bones I've broken in 5 years in the Marines:

Bones I've broken playing soccer:
Left navicular (inside bone in foot just under ankle)
Right 5th metatarsal (outside bone)
Right collarbone

Not to mention soccer was by far the worst sport on my knees from playing on extremely hard-packed clay fields interspersed with clumps of fescue.

I don't believe BM should have taken that hit. I have watched the video, of that play, a few times. Austin Pope made zero effort to block the UGA cornerback. Shouldn't Pope have the responsibility to recognize the blitz and pick it up? Surely the coaches will not allow that going forward. Pope ended up open, but our QB was going to take a vicious shot regardless of whether he got a pass off or not. I'd much rather see our QB protected than to see an open TE 5 yards downfield.
Pope's job on that play was to run a route not block. Getting hit like that on this play was entirely Maurer's fault. He has to see the blitz coming and adjust protection or hit his hot route. Which was most likely Pope. He is a freshman though and he will learn.

I hated soccer. Growing up in 3rd world Asian former British colonies meant I played it. I preferred rugby but the locals always played soccer and cricket. The saving grace is when the embassies had enough kids for diplomatic baseball leagues.

I refuse to let my daughter play soccer. See has done bowling, cheerleading and fencing and that's enough.

From the video posted above, it looks as though he was out of it and trying to lay down & go to sleep, which is signs of a concussion. But, videos can be very deceiving.

I did not see any head contact on the play.

Tennis and golf have more inquiries than most of the “contact” sports as well.

I am a fan of Harrison Bailey and think he can be a great college QB, but the talent he has at WR is nuts better than the competition. That is my concern, those guys are so much bigger and stronger than the other teams DB's that they get instant separation.
If Bailey is a real competitor he would not want anything handed to him. He would want to earn it. As of right now Mauer has 2 SEC touchdowns in his pocket to 0 for Bailey. The only interception was because the receiver fell down while the ball was in the air. In the spring we can let the competition begin.
