No one could unseat JG because of the coach. Not because of ability. Pruitt was a conservative/ defensive minded HC with more power than he proved he deserved. Heupel is an aggressive/offensive minded HC that’s proven he can compete. You can’t get more “night and day” than that.

If Spring ends with someone very obviously a distant 3rd... they'll most likely leave. IMHO, that won't be Hooker. I think his experience alone gives you a guy who can dependably run your O... even if he isn't flashy. Watch a few go absolutely ballistic if Bailey announces he's leaving. They'll throw stones at the coaches, the other QB's, and everyone else because UT couldn't develop a "5* elite recruit". Two things have always bothered me about Bailey's ranking. One, I have never seen him show top shelf arm strength. Not in HS. Not last year. Not in the practice videos we've seen this year. Not a rag arm or anything like that... just not a "5*" arm. The other thing is that Gilbert was a pretty convenient "easy button". Some times Bailey just seemed to throw in his direction knowing that few HS players could defend him. He may or may not have been as successful in HS without Gilbert... but to me that's an open question mark on his ability.

Basically the same group will celebrate if Maurer leaves.

I agree Hookers experience and should be able to run this offense keeps him here.
I feel like the top two are BM & HH. The question is will Salter be kept or let go or if HB moves to the 3rd spot will he stick around.

Just so I can clear the air, that comment was more of a shot at AP for spewing false narrative to a fan based starved for information. I’ve noticed his MO and with everything going on the world today, I have a heightened dislike for false journalism.

I apologize if my point was missed and looking back I can see why.

JG got benched, hit the transfer portal, then shortly after UT gets hit with an investigation into paying players. This has always seemed suspicious to me. Was JG the starter because him and his dad had dirt on Pruitt? I hope this is the case and our other QB's are not that bad. I always thought BM looked good, just played reckless at times. Either way, the starter is no longer JG and I look forward to seeing what comes next.

That really could be true. With 25 newcomers as a hard limit, and us being close to that limit already, every portal spot is very valuable. To spend one on a one-man position when you have 3 or 4 guys already (if Salter is part of the equation) tells me that they aren't sure the guys they have can get the job done. But that's IF they really do use a spot on a QB. I will be interested to see if they actually do that. Since it was first reported in the swamp of lies that people call the "media," I won't believe it until I see it.

yea, he saw the cheating going on when he was a freshman but it took him 4 years to make a decision 😂

Skeptical that the most tight lipped AD and staff we've seen in decades somehow leaked to AP ANY..... I mean ANY...... information, much less info about what positions are being sought from the portal.

It's a tiny set of people who would know what Heupel and staff are searching for in the portal and this staff has proven NOT have loose lips.

I call BS.

Pretty sure it's just opinion. AP doesn't think they go with BM because he'll turn the ball over. Even though he admits that he flashes better than HH and HB.

Lets revisit in August when things matter.

My guess Salter will be on a very short leash until they find a transfer QB in the portal that signs, and then they will cut him loose. He’s clearly not learning from his mistakes.

I personally think the smart move would be to use the portal on the remaining spots for DL and LB. Tell Salter, Henry and Crouch to kick rocks now and go with what we got. But that’s just me.

LB is the most critical need even if they have to make Holiday or Beckwith their emergency QB.

I'd bet those guys make that call moot pretty soon. I wouldn't be surprised with any outcome...

There’s always somebody...doesn’t qualify as we. I don’t disagree with your overall point. WE do a lot of crowning in the Spring...almost like we’re in a rush.
