Pruitt in that moment picked him over JG and JT to play against UGA.He didn’t beat him out. He was put in because JG was a bad Qb. It was a desperation move.
I disagree. There wasn’t an open competition with JG. It had been determined JG was not going to start because his gameplay was so poor. He may have beaten out JT in practice that week but it was more a desperation move than BM “winning” a Qb competition. He really didn’t earn the starter’s role over JG, it was given to him that week because a change had to occur.Pruitt in that moment picked him over JG and JT to play against UGA.
That means he beat him out. Also he started against Miss State and Alabama over JG.
Yes...he beat him out but then got injured.
And he was only a true freshman.
He seems to have been 3rd today. You can't write him off certainly, the kid has had really bad luck, he's a second year player but he effectively had no spring or summer last year and limited reps in fall camp due to contact tracing, so he's not as far along as a second year player normally could be expected to be. He got thrown in the fire some last year and looked exactly like what he was, a true freshman who hadn't been prepared for the moment through no fault of his own. To me, Bailey growing up over the off-season has looked like the best chance for a major step forward at QB next season. If that doesn't happen we are left hoping Mauer figures it out, that Hooker is a SEC-caliber diamond in the rough or that Salter is that rarest of rare breeds, a true freshman that can play at a high level (and that he gets un-suspended). All those seemed like less likely propositions than Bailey taking the next step, but maybe they aren't.You're going to get some people going.... They don't want to hear that Bailey is trailing right now.
I think he can still win the job but there is increasing smoke... saying he's 3rd right now.
1) There was never a fair QB competition.I disagree. There wasn’t an open competition with JG. It had been determined JG was not going to start because his gameplay was so poor. Are you just going to keep this up all off-season?2 TD 5 INT 45%
He gets hurt every other play.Really? Maurer DID beat out JG then got injured. Pruitt as much as he resisted letting go of Maurer had given up and stated publicly that Maurer had become the starter.
Pruitt was fixated on JG. He did well in practice. Pruitt was fully convinced that JG was the "low risk" QB.... which was the most important factor in his style of play. Maurer is unlikely to ever be a "low risk" QB. At his best he's probably a guy who will still make aggressive mistakes. Pruitt hated the risk that comes with aggressive QB play.
I wasn’t talking about his mental health. Purely was talking about his awful decision making in game. He tweets about fans and makes terrible throws in game. You smooth brains are using hasty generalizations to try and make it sound like me calling him a headcase has anything to do with his personal life when I’m reality me calling him that has everything with him playing poor football and making terrible decisions when he throws awful picks, doesn’t slide, tweets angrily at fans and lets himself get blindsided left and right. I’ve never said anything about his mental health. And don't forget to add one of your classless comments about his mental health....![]()
2 TD 5 INT 45% y’all called this sec caliber is what got this started. Are you just going to keep this up all off-season?
Literally NONE of the QBs can prove themselves in a game right now. Not just Maurer.
What value do you get out of this?
You could be doing anything else right now, instead you're choosing to trash a player that decided to stay and try and help his team win.
JG had to transfer he was so bad. Beating him out as a true freshman wasn't that big of a deal. But he did.
And guess what. It's 2021. So it DOESN'T MATTER ANYWAY.
The season doesn't start for 5 months but lets ignore the current progress he's made.
You suck dude....
Nah, and he as well as others can correct me if I am wrong. Folk are saying maurer has been "trash" so far and all everyone has heard is a bunch or repeated reasons why! that's what i said and what i interpret most of volnation saying about maurer. now, if its anything more than that.........! i stand by what i originally said and that he has been boo-boo so far. can that change? yes! will it? tbd. all i know right now is......we got a new coaching staff and a new system. maurer is healthy and competing for the starting position. may the best man win and may us as vol fans root for them all!If he STARTS, that means he beat out a former 5 star QB and another 4 star who started 16 games at another power 5 school.
So why would he be slaw if he's able to do that??
You're saying he's trash no matter what. And that's just lame AF.
He's a Vol QB just like Bailey and Hooker. Let the best man win whoever it is.
But to sit there and just continue to trash the kid is doodoo.
If he does ball out, nobody expects you to man up...
truthfully, i dont think anyone beat out JT. that dude received the most unfair shot to play QB at the university of tennessee anyone has probably ever endured. and it showed in the time he actually played. smhI disagree. I have to assume you imagine Brian has done something very personal to you. There's no other good explanation for your weird obsession and dislike for him.I wasn’t talking about his mental health. I’ve never said anything about his mental health.
Then you evidently don’t know what a “headcase” is. Calling someone a “headcase” IS a direct insult to someone’s mental health and has absolutely nothing to do with the game. I personally think you’re backpedaling but who am I to suggest you’re not that ignorant?I wasn’t talking about his mental health. Purely was talking about his awful decision making in game. I am not backpedaling at all. Brian is a headcase just like JG was. Pitiful decision after pitiful decision on the field. Then you evidently don’t know what a “headcase” is. And once again. He was talking to fans like YOU. You call yourself a fan of the team while bashing the players on that team as if they don’t belong. I’d tweet at you to.

JT has the arm strength on par with the best but he really hasn’t shown the ability to throw finesse passes when needed. He has to develop that ability if he wants an NFL career.truthfully, i dont think anyone beat out JT. that dude received the most unfair shot to play QB at the university of tennessee anyone has probably ever endured. and it showed in the time he actually played. smh
