I disagree. There wasn’t an open competition with JG. It had been determined JG was not going to start because his gameplay was so poor. He may have beaten out JT in practice that week but it was more a desperation move than BM “winning” a Qb competition. He really didn’t earn the starter’s role over JG, it was given to him that week because a change had to occur.

You're going to get some people going.... They don't want to hear that Bailey is trailing right now.

I think he can still win the job but there is increasing smoke... saying he's 3rd right now.

He seems to have been 3rd today. You can't write him off certainly, the kid has had really bad luck, he's a second year player but he effectively had no spring or summer last year and limited reps in fall camp due to contact tracing, so he's not as far along as a second year player normally could be expected to be. He got thrown in the fire some last year and looked exactly like what he was, a true freshman who hadn't been prepared for the moment through no fault of his own. To me, Bailey growing up over the off-season has looked like the best chance for a major step forward at QB next season. If that doesn't happen we are left hoping Mauer figures it out, that Hooker is a SEC-caliber diamond in the rough or that Salter is that rarest of rare breeds, a true freshman that can play at a high level (and that he gets un-suspended). All those seemed like less likely propositions than Bailey taking the next step, but maybe they aren't.

1) There was never a fair QB competition.
2) Someone has to play QB, and that decision came to Pruitt.
3) In which he decided on Maurer over JT and JG.

Literally NONE of the QBs can prove themselves in a game right now. Not just Maurer.

What value do you get out of this?
You could be doing anything else right now, instead you're choosing to trash a player that decided to stay and try and help his team win.

JG had to transfer he was so bad. Beating him out as a true freshman wasn't that big of a deal. But he did.

And guess what. It's 2021. So it DOESN'T MATTER ANYWAY.

The season doesn't start for 5 months but lets ignore the current progress he's made.

People talking about Maurer from his freshman year don’t seem to realize this offense fits him so much better. Short to intermediate passing game with an occasional deep ball, but mostly quick passes and runs. Maurer in an uptempo spread vs a pro style will be night and day difference.

I like the eye test much better especially when we look at the head coach and overall scheme... like I said earlier whoever wins the job I trust this staff to put them in the best position and I’m rooting for them to succeed but don’t act like Mauer don’t have what it takes because he does all 3 do may the best man win.

I’m honestly not surprised that we are hearing more about Hooker and Maurer than Bailey. Bailey was just a freshman last year, but he’s slow, holds the ball way too long, and doesn’t have the best arm. Just gotta hope 1 of the 3 improves and fits this offense best. I’m open to which one gives us the best chance to win, but I believe that’s gonna be the guy who gives us a true dual threat.

Really? Maurer DID beat out JG then got injured. Pruitt as much as he resisted letting go of Maurer had given up and stated publicly that Maurer had become the starter.

Pruitt was fixated on JG. He did well in practice. Pruitt was fully convinced that JG was the "low risk" QB.... which was the most important factor in his style of play. Maurer is unlikely to ever be a "low risk" QB. At his best he's probably a guy who will still make aggressive mistakes. Pruitt hated the risk that comes with aggressive QB play.

I am actually agnostic on this. What I believe is Heupel will pick the QB he thinks plays the best in his offense. If that is Mauer, Hooker or Bailey it will be based on who Heupel thinks is the best QB and not because of the person being the safest QB. I think going into this Bailey is the nest prospect overall, but if Mauer or Hooker win the job then will support them just as I would support Bailey.

So why would he be slaw if he's able to do that??

truthfully, i dont think anyone beat out JT. that dude received the most unfair shot to play QB at the university of tennessee anyone has probably ever endured. and it showed in the time he actually played. smh

truthfully, i dont think anyone beat out JT. that dude received the most unfair shot to play QB at the university of tennessee anyone has probably ever endured. and it showed in the time he actually played. smh

JT has the arm strength on par with the best but he really hasn’t shown the ability to throw finesse passes when needed. He has to develop that ability if he wants an NFL career.
