Martin really isn't that bad

I was one of those in the Bring Back Bruce camp. I didn't sign the petition because I am too paranoid to sign stuff like that...haha.

I was even stupid enough to say if the Vols made the Final Four I would rather have Pearl....man, sometimes we say really stupid things without thinking them through fully.

Of course all of this is easier to say with Pearl off the market...which I think speaks to a thread I started a week or so ago. Pearl being in the picture clouded everyone's vision with nostalgia.

With Pearl out of the way, it is much easier to see our present situation. Cuonzo inherited a mess (and a depleted roster). Yes, he has underachieved to some extent the last two regular seasons. Yes, I am still a little skeptical going forward. However, I hope Cuonzo gets a nice extension and raise. I am becoming more of a believer that he is what we need. He seems to be an awesome human being. It is clear the players love him. Sure he signs some guys that don't pan out...but he also signs a Josh Richardson and Armani Moore who have been keys to this run.

Here it is...I was wrong. I am proud Cuonzo is our coach. He may not make the tournament next year...but I'm on board for giving him at least two more years.

now that was therapeutic!

Crow has never tasted so good right? I had so much from last night I had leftovers and just heated it up for lunch. Just chugged it down with some Ale8. Nothing better lol.

There was plenty reasons to criticize Martin, so I don't think anyone needs to apologize for that. But some of the numbnuts on this site (including one who's already posted in this thread) are the ones that need about 3 plates of crow.

Also funny how most of them haven't been around lately, and if they have, it's like said poster in here, just stirring the pot more.

I think Hubbs and JRich will be enough to get us back in the tourney next year.

I was a naysayer as well, but CCM continues to prove me wrong. The only fans that should be ashamed are the ones that were chanting 'we want Bruce' - IMO, that was classless and I never would have done that no matter how disappointed I was.

Speaking of getting old.....

For real. You play who you are scheduled to play. They'll look for any loophole they can to not appreciate a sweet 16 run smh. Iowa and UMass were both ranked in the top 25 at some part of the season, oh yeah and Mercer upset Duke. Sorry Duke couldn't handle the pressure and folded so we could play and beat them.

I agree I heard it at a few games this season. All you can do is shake your head and hope they are not raising children, haha.

Some guys can't admit they are wrong...that's a sign of weakness and insecurity. You may not be wrong in the long run (Cuonzo may not get it done over the next couple of years)...but in the short term...in the now...a whole lot of us were wrong. It was just plain irrational to call for a coaching change before the post season tournament (because college bball is all about the tournament). At this point it is pretty embarrassing every time the announcers talk about our fan base and how we were calling for Cuonzo to be fired. We look like lunatics...which maybe more accurate than we want to admit...haha

Exactly, how many of these are we going to get? sheesh. I never knew wins over Iowa, Umass and Mercer would change so many people's feelings.

We do go over the top alot in both directions....I swear I think its mostly women on this site LOL

That's every board with sports involved though. Some UK fans were calling for Cal's head earlier this year. They're back peddling now lol.

What's worse than a thread apologizing for questioning CCM?

Idiots who think they're better fans because they didn't, hijacking said thread.

i wasn't going to to do this because i did not want to throw water on tennessee's run, but since we have all these "apology" type threads i think it needs to be said.

you don't judge anyone by a game or two. you judge things based on whether or not you like the future and direction of the program.

so, the question is does a win over iowa, massachusetts and mercer change where you think the future of tennessee basketball is headed?

i'm just asking the question.

because, one can easily make the argument that while reaching the sweet sixteen is impressive....just where the hell was this all year long? why was this team a legitimate bubble team at risk of not getting invited to the dance?

tennessee isn't kentucky with a bunch of freshman that needed to grow up.

this team is lead by juniors and seniors.

imo, everyone should be thrilled by advancing to the sweet sixteen. but, i wouldn't let a win over mercer erase the memory of a lot of inexplicable poor play throughout the season.

It's not all about those wins over those teams. It's about how much CCM has grown and change that has everyone excited.

I hear you...that's why in the OP I said I'm still a little skeptical. I'm not 100% certain that we won't be letting Cuonzo go a year or two from now. My point was that in the moment, I was wrong. Long term, he may not be the answer. But in this moment, he has earned the opportunity to prove that he is or is not the long term answer. I understand who we have beaten in this tournament run. I know we have had a pretty easy go of things based upon who we have played. However, it seems Martin is improving as a coach...it seems he has figured out how to push the right buttons which is a sign of a good coach. It has taken a while but it seems his philosophy is now fully ingrained and that philosophy is winning us ball games.

I just think it this point he has earned the chance to prove he is the guy or not...and I think we as a fan base jumped the shark with all of the Bring Back Bruce stuff.
