Looking more and more like DeBord will be the new OC

I personally have no opinion on DeBord being the OC. My biggest gripe is the QB coach position. We have Dobbs (who still needs to develop) and 3 freshmen. DeBord may turn out to be a fine play caller but who is coaching these guys?

And if Butch is holding out until Wednesday to announce this in order to not lose recruits then that is a sorry way of going about it. I have never seen holding off on announcing so that you don't lose recruits, if anything it's usually the other way around.

With that said, I'm really not as down on DeBord as most. I suspect we will gripe no more than we did with Bajakian as far as play calling. And I don't see Bajakian as a big recruiter either. The QB coach is my biggest concern

Well you live and learn. Maybe you'll have it figured out next time around. At this rate you'll be around for about 7 more Tennessee coaches.
Well, I'm on my 12th one right now, but I have only been to games coached by 9. I didn't see Neyland, Barnhill, or Chaney's one game as head coach.

How does anyone know why he is waiting? Has he or anyone other than people on VN said that?

If he is set on DeBord like most believe why not go ahead and announce it? With that said, everyone could be wrong and it may not be DeBord, we've seen that plenty too.

On second thought, DeBord could be considering NFL opportunities. Wasn't he rumored with the Falcons who just officially hired their coach today?

If this were the case, DeBord's candidacy would have been denied by Butch and everyone else days ago.

It's DeBord.

Why publicly deny it now when you have the Bob Mueller's of the world providing you with a smokescreen and lowering expectations? Especially when you might end up calling Debord to coach your OL?

I think throwing it out there that he's holding the announcement back until later as to not effect recruiting is a valid argument. We all thought DeBord was the guy a week ago and were flipping out that "it's a terrible, boring hire". So much so that Butch went on several radio shows saying he's got more interviews lined up and we should "trust" him.

I think he would have announced it already if he thought it would cause a splash in recruiting. Now, he'd rather not have this be used against him by other coaches grasping for straws at the last minute.

I've got nothing against DeBord, but will certainly not be celebrating the hire. Let's just pray things work out. I'm trusting Butch until further notice.

What about the story that butch was told no about hiring DeBord by Hart because of the boosters?

Solid point. Alternatively, he's still waiting for a few more dominos to fall into place.

I guess I'll clarify that I can see where there's a strong possibility that it's Debord. I just don't think it has to be Debord. There's just too many other variables at play.

Ever think that as of right now NSD is the top priority for CBJ? NSD is the most important thing for UT football at this point and time, not hiring a OC. CBJ can focus on a OC anytime thereafter. Priorities.. Get the class signed, hire OC second.

Honest question.. When do the coaches get to work with the players as in when is the first actual practice?

The reason for waiting could just as likely be because there are more offensive coaches with a foot out the door, but they're sticking around to help seal the deal on NSD. Could also explain why the CMU HC hire seems to be on hold. Could be a lot more shuffling yet to come on the offensive staff.

Ok for all the "pro" Debord people, why is it that I live in the heart of B1G country, a ten minute drive from Michigan and surrounded by tons of UM fans and I have yet to find a single one that was upset when he wasn't given the HC job when Carr left or even retained in any fashion when CRR took over. Honestly every single one of them wanted him gone before the start of his last year as OC. they all said the same thing, his playcalling was "dated", uncreative, too conservative and way to predictable.

So after the last 2 years and going into a year where we momentum and a legitimate shot to make some serious noise in the East we have a chance to go out and hire a new OC. We could either go out and fond a guy with extensive experience with the read option spread and could bring some much needed new wrinkles. OR we could go out and hire a guy the CBJ is comfortable with that has ZERO experience with a read option spread and therefor would add nothing new while trying to learn all the intricate details and in the end give us the same old, non-productive(unless facing a weak D) playcalling we've seen the last 2 years, probably even less as it will take him time to learn the plays and when to use them.

I would love to know who he has/is planning on interviewing.

But, but he has so much experience. He is 52-11 as an OC and he was the OC for the big, bad 1997 Wolverines.

NSD is his top priority. He doesn't have to worry about hiring an OC soon when your OC candidate is not currently employed by another football team.

Its crazy when you look at the different extremes from the FF and RF. Some of the extremists here think Butch is a fool and we will be looking for a new coach in a couple of years. In the RF there are some that would have Butch's babies if it were possible.
