Looking more and more like DeBord will be the new OC

I agree with the win something big by year 4 position. I also think you bail on someone exactly as soon as you see that that that is not going to happen. With Dooley it was the Arkansas game (maybe the UGA game) of his second year. Butch hasn't hit that point yet, but not sure he won't.

If Debord is hired to give Coach Z time to grow into the position I'll be ok with it. Especially if he turns out to be a good play caller in CBJ's system.

If he does the bandwagon fans will be lovin on Debord.

Don't have link.. But if you google "Butch Jones adds staff to CMU" or something, you'll see that Coach Z was actually named associate Head coach

So, let me see if I understand your expectations. Butch gets 4 years to win the SEC East, or he needs to be fired. His very first hastily assembled class will be Seniors in 2016.

You give him 4 years to play for the SEC Championship after taking over a program that had not had a winning SEC record in the 5 previous years. Four years after taking over a program that was 2-14 in the SEC in the last 2 seasons before his arrival. You're not expecting too much are you?

We were 12 points away from winning the East last year with a ton of freshman and a bad OL. Why shouldn't winning the East in 2 more years be the expectation?

If 2016 is too early to expect for Butch to have this team playing in the SECC, especially with the way he is recruiting, then how many more years does he get?

You're cute and clueless. Are you supporting Debord because of similar ages?
I am not supporting anyone. I don't care who is hired, as I figure that the head coach hopefully knows much more than I do.

You act like you know the outcome of a situation that hasn't even occurred. You KNOW that Debord is a bad hire. See, I don't know that. I just don't rule him out. The hottest o-coord in the country could be a bust here, too.

I'm not clueless. I just can't see the future with near the certainty that you can. It must be awesome to be real life soothsayer.

As far as the age thing goes, I am older than Debord. He was about 10 when I enrolled at U.T. The only way that you will avoid being 65 some day is to die while you are younger than that. Remember that smartass remark , if and when you reach 65.

....and we were a missed extra point away from a losing season.

Couldn't you have merged me with someone better than the Mueller thread? Seriously, I can live with a merge, but the Mueller thread? That's just mean.

It's like prearranged marriages, you just don't get any say in the matter. Just bend over and take it and say, thank you sir.

You've been watching football for over half a century and you can't see that DeBord is an abysmally bad hire?

Even though us older guys aren't cute to some of the younger punks, we aren't completely eaten up with dumbass as they seem to think. I've come to enjoy playing with the emotional twits, especially, when I'm giving them news I know they won't like.

DeBord or not, the football program at UT won't implode.

It's my OPINION that Debord is gong to be a terrible hire. You're on the fence about it. That's your opinion. That's cool. Yes the best OC in the country could fail here. However the best college OC might be far less likely to fail than a guy who hasn't called an offensive play in 8 years.

Also I have went on record and said if Debord works out I will post about how idiotic I have been about him.

Yeah we've seen how robust UT football is to tribulation over the last decade plus. Good one.

But not a thing you can do to change it. Also, fwiw, Rucker is taking like we better just go ahead and prepare for a DeBord announcement Wednesday.

So we are making a hire so bad that we are embarassed to announce it because of negative recruiting. Regardless of how this turns out, that is just pathetic.

I'm still not convinced that with all of the resources you have available to you that you hire Debord. There are way better options with the checkbook that the Vols are sportin'.

An alternative is that Butch brought in his mentor on a fact-finding mission to give him an outside opinion on his program, and then to help him rank the list of names he's likely to interview.

When was the last time you've seen an "interview" that public? They don't pull this crap because coaching is a tight-knit profession and you don't want to alienate future colleagues by public spurning one candidate for another. That's why they have these types of interviews under wraps and away from prying eyes (which probably what happened when Butch went out west after meeting with DeBord). They called it a recruiting trip, but why go hang out with Mackenzie?

I'm willing to bet he went out west because his top two candidates are/were Sanford or Helton - both west coast guys. Why visit Mackenzie? Because you can bring in a guy from LA and a guy from Boise to San Fran quietly.

We'll have a junior and THREE FRESHMEN QBs next year. No way he leaves their tutelage up to a graduate assistant.

Instead, you bring in a talented OC who coaches QBs, you maybe bring in Debord if Mahoney leaves, and you bring in a GA to help coach qbs to help ease the transition for your new OC/QB Coach (and if you hire a rising star, you don't expect him to stay forever, and you start grooming your QB coach for the future).

At least, this is what I hope is happening, and not some good ol' boy crap.

It could be Jones doesn't want the recruits seeing all the idiotic comments from fans on here before signing day. Keep in mind, Wednesday is the earliest a recruit can sign. If they are that concerned about DeBord, they can delay their signing until the announcement is made.

Can you name the last graduate assistant who took over the QB coach role?

If this were the case, DeBord's candidacy would have been denied by Butch and everyone else days ago.

It's DeBord.
