Looking more and more like DeBord will be the new OC

Its crazy when you look at the different extremes from the FF and RF. Some of the extremists here think Butch is a fool and we will be looking for a new coach in a couple of years. In the RF there are some that would have Butch's babies if it were possible.

Bipolar at its best..

I find the RF guys to be more level headed.

I think announcing this hire during NSD is almost as bad a decision as the hire itself. It will suck life out of what should be one of the happiest days in years.

The one thing I like about DeBord is I know he will run the ball if we get down on the goal line. Seattle could have used him Sunday night.

Why do you guys assume that? He is going to do what Butch tells him to do. We dont and will probably never have a power running game under Butch Jones.

That might be a little far fetched. Now Peyton's baby on the other hand. You might have some Volunteers in here.

I still get a vibe that JEFF QUINN is in the mix somehow. That guy is going to coach somewhere, but where???

I'm starting to get the feeling that Mahoney will go to CMU, DeBord becomes OC and OL coach and we bring in a QB coach. We will see I guess

I believe that too.. I can see DeBord replacing someone on our staff, but the guy isn't ready to announce he's going to CMU until after NSD to make everyone at TN happy. It's not like TN recruits are gonna jump ship to CMU.

The question is who?

I rather have DeBord as an assistant and not an OC.

And my reasoning, has nothing against DeBord really. It's more on Butch not taking a gamble on an up and comer.

I have made no secret that I am against a Debord hire for OC. I was on record saying I wasn't thrilled when CBJ was hired (didn't think he could recruit well enough in the SEC).

We will see how it plays out. I have no problem eating crow if it's debord and he turns out to be great.

Still have my doubts, but there it is.

Ok for all the "pro" Debord people, why is it that I live in the heart of B1G country, a ten minute drive from Michigan and surrounded by tons of UM fans and I have yet to find a single one that was upset when he wasn't given the HC job when Carr left or even retained in any fashion when CRR took over. Honestly every single one of them wanted him gone before the start of his last year as OC. they all said the same thing, his playcalling was "dated", uncreative, too conservative and way to predictable.

So after the last 2 years and going into a year where we momentum and a legitimate shot to make some serious noise in the East we have a chance to go out and hire a new OC. We could either go out and fond a guy with extensive experience with the read option spread and could bring some much needed new wrinkles. OR we could go out and hire a guy the CBJ is comfortable with that has ZERO experience with a read option spread and therefor would add nothing new while trying to learn all the intricate details and in the end give us the same old, non-productive(unless facing a weak D) playcalling we've seen the last 2 years, probably even less as it will take him time to learn the plays and when to use them.

I had the same experience. I trained with two different Michigan grads who were there during the Michigan NC, and they have been ribbing the crap out of me on how dumb the hire is. They wanted him gone due to his lackluster utilization of talent and play calling.

I think the new OC should have to have a event like the recruiting to put on a hat for the team he chooses and send a fax to said school on NSD.. Lol

You could be right but I've heard Debord and Sheridan will be handling the QB coaching duties. TIFWIW.

It will be interesting to see what happens though once NSD is over. I guess we could see some staff changes.

If he is set on DeBord like most believe why not go ahead and announce it? With that said, everyone could be wrong and it may not be DeBord, we've seen that plenty too.

Maybe he would be more embarrassed by the fanbase's uninformed reaction than the hire itself?

Just one of many possibilities...

I have a feeling Debord will bring some wrinkles in.

As for the rest: We really don't know how Debord will do, what he's spent the past several years educating himself on, how attuned to Butch's offensive schemes he'll be, etc...

I would think Butch would know that much better than us, and he has a lot to lose if he's wrong, so we'll see, I guess, if Debord's hired.

As to the Michigan fanbase: I don't give them credit for being any more rational than our fanbase, so I'll discount much of what they feel.

The malcontents are usually the ones who make themselves heard, whether at Michigan or wherever.

Yep, that's true in everything.

The negative minded people always look for things to be negative about and they post and shout the most in every situation.

#BrickbyBrick...VFL...GBO!!!

And the ones that follow the pied piper blindly are sheep taken for slaughter.
Relax guys, this is an opinion based board.

Once hired, as stated, we have to support the hire.
Contrastingly, we are allowed to not like a particular candidate before the hire. It not being malcontent, it is anything but. In reality it is being optimistic. I would be super content with about a dozen. Only one I don't want.
