Looking more and more like DeBord will be the new OC

Ok laugh away then buddy. And don't come back supporting Butch when were one of the top programs again. If you want to run a football program go become a coach. If you want to be a fan listen to your coach that took your program out of the dumpster.

There you go telling me not to be a fan again. If you don't have the ability to question a Butch hire, you clearly can't determine my fanhood. I bet you'd still be cheering Dools on like he was the greatest if he were still here.

Not out of the dumpster yet Butch just put the fire out.

Look at it this way, maybe Debord is coming in as OL coach

He spent almost 11 years as an OL coach before moving up to OC

He's only had 3 years combined as an OC

Maybe so -- and it could also be a situation like at TCU with co - OCs and coach Z is promoted to the other co-OC -- would make some sense

You offensive "experts" should be ashamed that you've kept your experience and expertise to yourselves all these years. You could've made the Vols chaimpions each and every year, but you chose not to. You should be ashamed.

Give the fans credit for the slogans.

Well the Brick by Brick, Force of One. Kids need slogans, 3rd Down for What.

He is doing the right thing and its coming together like you say we will see the next 2 years.

The slogans get old after a while and Im not talking about the fans... Time to start winning and that starts this year. No reason to not either win the east or be one game away from winning it next year as well as placing an expectation of 9-3 on this team with the loss of players in the eastern division.

The UF and UGA games are break through games for the Butch Jones era...

Its why this hire is important. Jones cannot afford a set back year right now.

What? I hated Dooley with a passion and wrote papers about why he should be fired. But look where this program was then and look where it is now. I mean cmon, have you had your eyes closed for the past 3 years? We were on track to be the Vandy and Kentucky of the SEC, and then Butch comes in with back to back top 10 classes and an INSANE amount of hype and people are picking us to win the EAST next year. When have you heard National media talking about the vols like this in the past. All i'm saying is Butch has earned the right to make his own hire at this point. Also, do you remember the meltdown on VN when he brought most of his Cincy coaches with him? Thats worked out pretty good i would say.

Well he went 20-6 as an OC in 2006-07........not really the 90s

It is all relative.

Those were the seasons where Michigan fans will tell you that they had National Championship aspirations with offensive players like Mike Hart and Chad Henne, and instead mustered up stuff like losses to App. State.

It eventually got Lloyd Carr forced out too. Debord was a part of that.

DeBord was atrocious at CMU, and was good but very conservative at UM during his most recent run. This feels like Butch doing a favor for a friend/mentor - the hire you make during your tenth year, not your third. I hate this.

He was also going to take over as HC for Carr but got beat out by Rich Rod because they wanted to change philosophies, you see how that worked....

Debord would be an incredibly underwhelming hire in my opinion regardless of what the "Butch gets it" crowd has to say or how media sheep would try to spin it. The fact is that DeBord is a former coach who now serves in an administrative capacity at Michigan overseeing Olympic sports. He has not coached college football in 7 years and has not participated in the recruitment of high school football players during that time which is an incredibly long time to be out of the recruiting game. There is very little name recognition for which players could identify.

College football has changed in the last several years and most certainly I think that reasonable minded persons would agree that college football recruiting has changed dramatically in that time frame. Does anyone really believe that DeBord has maintained his high school recruiting contacts during the last seven years especially considering his stint in the pros.

Another point that has also been mentioned but should be repeated is that he is not a spread option offense coach. I know that I would not be jazzed about DeBord as the new OC and I would suspect that some offensive recruits may find another suitor for their services. It will remain to be seen whether DeBord is hired and whether any current commits would go elsewhere.

With so much interest in the job, there are a number of better candidates in my opinion.

Has a lot to do with what Debord and Carr left him to work with since you like talking about stuff like that. Rich Rod has proven he is a winner everywhere else and IMO Michgan admin just wasnt patient enough with him. Brady Hoke cashed in on what Rich Rod built and then steadily wrecked the program again after that 1st year.

To be fair:

-DeBord has faced every kind of defense imaginable.
-Like some have said, this might be a co-OC thing where he shows Azzanni the ropes for a year or two and then hands it off for another NFL job.
-DeBord knows how to run the spread (although has never used it as a base system) and utilized a lot of zone blocking schemes at UM in '06/'07.

Even so...yeah, I still hate this.

What offensive coordinator do you know? The job goes beyond stats.

If butch hires Debord I'm jumping off the sun sphere. Butch said " it's humbling to have my phone ring so many times with coaches wanting to be the offensive coordinator at Tennessee" if there are that many people calling and we hire Debord he is an idiot. I would rather Azzani be the OC and we hire a QB coach. Debord will be the worst hire nation wide thus far.

Then you've sent us all the way back to my initial question. We've made all these strides and improvements and the best hire we can make is Mike DeBord?

Legg would be a good hire. Does not have to be a home run hire necessarily, just not a piece of **** hire like Debord. God I wish we had less idiotic sheep fans like you.

So Im an idiotic sheep fan 27...and a coach that has a NC ring is a piece of crap. Really? I hope you really arent a lawyer cause if you are, you should be limited to non adversarial work . A good lawyer can see all sides of an argument, and make a case for each one. You have blinders on, and to top it off, you are a wanna-be know-it-all. Order of the Coif material hardly.
Ive been a continuous season ticket holder since I graduated over 32 years ago. First had a season ticket when I was 12 in 1968. I've been critical, at times, of every single coach during my nearly 1/2 a century of following the orange. I've forgotten more UT football than you will ever know.......Im not a sheep sonny, nor a wolf like you, I am a sheep dog.........

I will give whoever Jones hires a chance and judge him by his performance. Cause Butch's guy is my guy until he shows he isnt up to the job.
By the way Legg would be okay with me so we do agree on one thing....

I don't want DeBord showing the ropes to Azzanni. I don't want him learning from a guy who has petered out to the point where he cannot get a football coaching job. I want my young assistants to learn from coaches who have been successful. Coaches who are tuned into what is working now, not 18 years ago. DeBord was only an OC for 3 years and now he is going to teach Azzanni how to be a great OC ? In an offense that is different than what he ran as an OC ?:bash:
