lol, well to start off, yes, they have a 10X bigger reserve than we do at the moment since, ya know, they've won 3 recent National Championships. Second of all, who the hell knows or cares what Saban would do. I care about what Butch will do.
What? I hated Dooley with a passion and wrote papers about why he should be fired. But look where this program was then and look where it is now. I mean cmon, have you had your eyes closed for the past 3 years? We were on track to be the Vandy and Kentucky of the SEC, and then Butch comes in with back to back top 10 classes and an INSANE amount of hype and people are picking us to win the EAST next year. When have you heard National media talking about the vols like this in the past. All i'm saying is Butch has earned the right to make his own hire at this point. Also, do you remember the meltdown on VN when he brought most of his Cincy coaches with him? Thats worked out pretty good i would say.
Butch still has a losing record at UT, one 7-6 season doesn't change that. People can pick us to win the East all they want, still hasn't happened yet. I want Butch to be more than just a good recruiter, but right now he has only beaten 2 teams (USCe 13, 14) that could be considered good teams.
Debord would be an incredibly underwhelming hire in my opinion regardless of what the "Butch gets it" crowd has to say or how media sheep would try to spin it. The fact is that DeBord is a former coach who now serves in an administrative capacity at Michigan overseeing Olympic sports. He has not coached college football in 7 years and has not participated in the recruitment of high school football players during that time which is an incredibly long time to be out of the recruiting game. There is very little name recognition for which players could identify.
College football has changed in the last several years and most certainly I think that reasonable minded persons would agree that college football recruiting has changed dramatically in that time frame. Does anyone really believe that DeBord has maintained his high school recruiting contacts during the last seven years especially considering his stint in the pros.
Another point that has also been mentioned but should be repeated is that he is not a spread option offense coach. I know that I would not be jazzed about DeBord as the new OC and I would suspect that some offensive recruits may find another suitor for their services. It will remain to be seen whether DeBord is hired and whether any current commits would go elsewhere.
With so much interest in the job, there are a number of better candidates in my opinion.
It s not hostile. You asked a question that no one on this board can answer and a question that will possibly never be answered correctly. Even on Michigan's board. We could speculate for hours. The possible reasons for not hiring him at UT posted throughout Volnation maybe the reasons Michigan did not to hire him. But it really does not matter if UT hires him does it? Better yet their maybe zero connection between him and Harbaugh where there is a connection between him and Jones.
Just for the record,
On February 1, 2013, DeBord was hired by Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon to be the sports administrator for the school's Olympic sports teams. In this role he works with the field hockey, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's track and field, and men's and women's tennis programs.
Some fail to recognize how far this team had fallen. It may or may not be a 4 year fix. A change at the 4 year mark unless it is the exceptional hire would be a disaster.
Plus you have to let all of Jones' plan play out and only a few possibly know what the initial plan was when he was hired.
IMO whatever time line he gave Hart it will be honored and if it was 6 years it will be done unless something major has happened.
In 2 years, what has CBJs done to terminate his contract. Nothing. What has he done above and beyond his contract, plenty. Its not just about wins and loses, it is also about the other areas, APR, discipline, competitiveness, culture and the list goes on, but the bottom line is that he is building and not destroying or allowing it to sit idle in its on mess.
Sorry it is not at the speed that some fans would like, but at least it is a thorough job and being done correctly.
What offensive coordinator do you know? The job goes beyond stats.
Could that have anything to do with the fact that Harbaugh brought Tim Drevno with him to be his o-coord? Drevno had worked under Harbaugh at San Diego St, Stanford, and the SF 49ers as o-line coach. Should Harbaugh have dumped his known commodity first choice who has worked with him for years, just to hire a guy on campus that he has no working experience with????Harbaugh is on campus with the guy and didn't show any interest.

Then you've sent us all the way back to my initial question. We've made all these strides and improvements and the best hire we can make is Mike DeBord?
Our offense is Butch's like Bamas defense is Saban's. No matter who we hire, our offense will be the same. When Roper left Cutt to go to Florida Dukes offense was the same. Butch is our offensive coordinator. Whoever we hire will be calling Butch's plays.
