Let's talk candidates...

hahaha whenever i read your responses im always reminded why im on the side of all the idiots who hate you by name, but also why i enjoy disagreeing with you and your opinions. glad youre on the forums. no homo

how long you gonna rock the avi?

Too many people are being way too emotional about all this, just sit back and see what happens.

I'm thinking about keeping it :)

He fits exactly what Hart is looking for and the price range that was said by LWS and posted by BTO...He would do well here but how long would he stay is the question

1st step is getting him to Tennessee. I'd offer him 1.1 million to take the job. That gives some room to bump him up rather quickly if recruiting/winning happens quicker than some think it will with the team left on campus. Over the next 3 years or so, Hart could double his salary again and still be around the 2 million a year mark. IMO he would be a very good candidate.

You know, I might get skewered for this, but there is a guy sitting on the bench in Murfreesboro that has a world of experience, a high basketball IQ, and would probably fit what Hart wants to pay. Monte Towe. He has put a lot of guys in the NBA. Don't know if he wants to be a HC again after his experience at UNO, but he is a player development wiz. Might be worth a look.

Go ahead and scrap your first choice/top-tier guy, because like one school ever has actually gotten their first choice.

Rick Byrd - Belmont

Give me a break! The guy is 60 years old! That is not an age factor! He is also 689-356 in his entire coaching career. The reason he is still at Belmont is because he wants to be at Belmont. Remind you of any other mid major coaches who are quite happy where they are? Tennessee would have a hard time recruiting him!! Belmont has perennially been able to play with the big boys! They beat North Carolina in Chapel Hill this past year. They beat Stanford at Stanford the previous season. They lost to Duke by 1 point the season before that. And you say he can't coach in the SEC???

Marshall will not be here
Smart will not be here
Howland will not be here
Miller (Dayton) will not be here

UT would be lucky to get Pitino from Minn.
But lets be realistic - $1.8M a year and running a coach out of town gets you the Martin's of the world.

Does Seth Greenberg move the needle at all? I would put VA Tech and UT on about the same level for basketball and both are football schools where basketball is not nearly as important and Greenberg was pretty successful in Blacksburg.

That might be a realistic shot. Hart will not spend big for BB given the state of the UTADs finances right now.

If you're putting VT and UT on the same level in basketball and you're advocating Seth Greenberg, just don't.

However, I do have to ask: would his personality fit here? He has a reputation for being hard on assistants, staff, and players.

Greenberg racked up wins against pansies while at VT, ala Vandy in football, and was handsomely rewarded with NIT bids.

If it's Tyndall I will throw up, cry, and then be the first signature on the fire Hart petition!

I would love to hear the rationale behind this. Saying this shows you know nothing about coaches or the game of basketball. DT is a great coach that knows what he is doing, has been to NCAA and has put kids in the league. He is my 2nd choice on the "realistic" list behind Miles at Nebraska.

Jeff Capel at Duke. Part of the Coach K coaching tree. He know's what it would take to build a winner and would bring a winning attitude. He ws a HC at both VCU and Oklahoma.

Well that's settled! Saves us meaningless interviews and debates on individual merits of each candidate....the giving up/meh coaching search method is underrated. :salute:

I guess he's not capable on learning from his failures and building upon them?

Nothing about his time at Oklahoma, other than lucking into Blake Griffin, suggests he's capable of much more than .500 records. I'd rather have a guy who's on the rise.

Tyndall would be solid and an upgrade over Cuonzo. Those that think not are kidding themselves. Tyndall can flat out coach and gets the best out of his roster. I've talked to Southern Miss fans and they are squirming at the thought of losing him.
