Let's talk candidates...

Based on our history In hiring coaches I have no faith that Hart will make a knock- out hire. No way he gets Marshall, Smart or any other big name. Bad timing since most coaches are locked into their current contracts and spring signing day is tomorrow. Unless hart is willing to divvy up over $2M+ , We'll get another up and comer that nobody has heard of and continue to be a middle of the pack SEC team. Get out the black curtains!

This brings up an interesting point. Any chance we keep the 7 footer that was going to sign tomorrow? I am guessing no seeing as Arizona is closer to California besides he apparently liked Cuonzo anyways.

my fear as well
if Hart had hired Gruden, I would have faith in his ability

We're not doing much better than 'Zo sorry fellas, i'm a vol fan through and through but our future looks very bleak with Martin's departure.

I don't understand the lack of faith in Hart....he's hired Butch, he hired Holly, and he's hired Serrano. I have no complaints about any of them. I don't keep up with baseball, but I know we started off hot, and I know we just signed a Top 5 recruiting class in football, and Holly led us deep in the tourney as a #1 seed....not sure why the hate on Hart.

The man is a darn sure upgrade from Hammy.

Hart could go extreme bargain basement and hire Kevin Carroll of Maryville College. Knowing Tennessee's hiring on the cheap in the past,it wouldn't shock me.:eek:lol::birgits_giggle::wink2:

Hart is going to have a "Reverse Auction" where the lowest bid will be the next coach.

Like I said in another thread. My wish list is

1: Shaka smart/Gregg Marshall
2: jay wright
3: Fred hoiberg
4: tommy amaker.

Pipe dream

Seems like we are going to contact big names. We will likely be turned down by them. I don't see this administration or any UT administration paying more for the bball coach than the football coach. I'm one of the few that prefer basketball over football and I understand this.

Tyndall is probably the best proven coach we can get. He has an NCAA resume and has a player in the league. Is he a big name? No. He's not Bruce either, but he is a guy that will take this job for what we paid Martin. Won't be considered a home run but it would be a solid hire in the wake of all the negative national media.

It would not surprise me to see them go as cheap as possible on an up-and-comer with little or no experience

If they go that route, then why not take a look at someone like Duggar Baucom at VMI? Runs a high-paced offense not too far off from what Loyola Marymount ran under Westhead. Recruiting players to VMI is a challenge. But they've had strong success for that level and have caused some big boys problems. First noticed them after they took out Kentucky at Rupp 111-103 about 5 years ago.

He has experience as an assistant across the Southeast and as a head coach at Tusculum in addition to his present position at VMI. He could hit the ground running recruiting.

This program has had success in the past going off the grid for coaches. There are several coaches like Baucom doing great work in relative obscurity. I believe his all-out style would work well with the fans and cause some issues for teams in this conference more accustomed to a slower style of play. But there are others out there and I don't think we should be afraid to look at the smaller schools for *experienced* talent as we did with Mears and Pearl.
