Here's my interpretation of that statement. It does not matter to me how much conditioning, pain, hard work, mental strain and any other effort involved for our basketball team to complete this season. It does not matter how close we are to getting into the BIG DANCE. If those who choose the teams that get into the 'only college basketball tournament in America', the elites of college basketball, do not think us worthy of THE TOURNAMENT, then I will no longer support this basketball team. Never have, never will. Doesn't even matter if they bring home a championship I would never cheer for them under those circumstances. 'nuff said! It'll mean that the team isn't very good and will need to improve next year. That's it. I won't watch one second of the NIT.
Told you you bring some good stuff. Like your stat use. Gonna give you a like! I think the real stat guy is Coach T. He charts everything even his practices. Bet he's maybe the only one in the country who does that and it seems to pay off for him.57% 7 of 13 games and bubble.

St Johns (RPI 43) TN (RPI 44)
St Johns are the kings of the NIT with 6 Championships (1 vacated for cheating)
We're gaining.

I've never heard of a coach who does this. It's quite amazing to me. This is an excerpt from Wednesday's Vol Calls. Bob Kesling - "But you chart everything in practice, and so if a young man comes to you and says Coach, I should be playing more you show it to him on film and you lay out everything in practice, so you say what do you think now?" Coach T, "That's right, when they see it on film when the guy they're competing against is whipping their tail and then you show them the stats of everything we do live competing, well, then it's hard for anyone to disagree. Now, you can say you can change that by what you do in practice today. You go whip his tail and start changing your numbers on the stat sheet and you'll be the guy who starts or the guy who plays 25 minutes. It's cut and dry with us, there's no gray area, guys know where they stand with us, and you know what, I don't think anyone will tell you that they don't appreciate it when you don't tell them exactly where they stand!" No wonder he can win with less talent, I'll bet you there's not another coach in the US who uses this kind of approach. If you think he is astounding VolNation with what he is doing, he is astounding me to find out what he is doing on the statistical analysis side with of all things, a basketball team!:detective:That's one of the things I like about Donnie.
Always chartin. always scheme-in.

I totally agree. Here's another thought. He said that during this time of the season, I guess referring to the short turnaround between games, that they will sometimes spend more time looking at film than on the practice floor. So, as you say, "always chartin, always scheme-in". So we know he is breaking down the opponent both offensively and defensively and then telling his team how to "whip their butts!" Then when they get to game time, the other team is wondering what the hell is going on here, and VolNation is ecstatic watching them win even though it is sometimes "heart attack city". :thumbsup:Attention to every detail.
What's amazed me this season is how he's built a productive front court out of 2 players who were totally lost in the last regime.
Told them, this is what I need and then had the teaching capability to get them there.

You may be right. It's just I've never heard a coach go into detail like this about his techniques. It's like he has spent a lifetime studying basketball. I think we have a real gem here. Want to see where this program is in a couple of years. I'll bet we are at the top of the league. Heck, I forgot, we're already there.Charting practice is awesome and I love coach T. However, I'm 100% sure he isn't the only one that charts and has stats for everything. Good discussion, though, guys.

Thanks for locating that. It looks like the new wave of basketball coaching gurus has arrived and we are fortunate enough to have one of them. Brad Stevens embraces advanced statistics - College Basketball Nation Blog - ESPNCheck out Brad Stevens and his stat guy, pretty cool stuff.
Here's something to ponder. If the University of Tennessee won the Pre-season NIT that occurs around Thanksgiving and this past year had 10 teams in it that was similar to the Orlando Classic with 10 teams that we played in, folks would be saying what I momentum builder for the current season. Yet if they were to win the 32 team post season NIT there is no momentum from that even if most of the team is returning. Figure that one out!I was addressing the credibility reference.
Arguing opinions doesn't really involve credibility.
One guy values the NIT, most don't.
So what?

Makes no sense to me.
Other than to hang a nice banner from a national tournament from the rafters which has been non-existent in our men's basketball history. Some would value it, some wouldn't. Whatever floats your boat! PS The 8 women's banners sort look out of place with no men's banners. Give you a hint, 90% of the fans would never know the difference.Preseason NIT counts in your regular season record. Postseason NIT is irrelevant.
