Let The 2017 Hype Begin

On the if ita not logical to me its fantasy, no thats not what i mean. What i mean is when you refute something, the responses back are just badmouthing me, no arguments to the contrary.

Logic to me is that Tennessee will go 7-5/6-6 (not including bowl.
I base it on the following logic.
1. CBJ lead teams rarely if ever beat a team with more all around talent. So that should mean loses to: Florida, Alabama, LSU and possibly UGA.
2. Of the teams we beat last year we return the least meaningful talent. Florida may be the exception.
3. CBJ lead teams have show a tendency to lose a game or two they shouldnt. (GT, USC, UK, VANDY) Take your pick of those four and its more likely than not that we will lose 1-2.
4. Gimme games: ISU, UMass, SM, Mizzu. (Not sure how anyone can call USC or Vandy a gimme game, as is often done on this board, when we lost to them the last time we played.

So with four gimme games and 2-3 more wins 7-5, 6-6 seems to me the most logic scenerios.

I can see some logic in 8-4, maybe 9-3 for the very optomisitc. Anyone going above that appears to me are just trying to hype themselves up to actually think that they believe it.

Unless I'm missing something, you didn't answer my question. All of the above are reasons why we won't achieve the "goals" you listed.

I guess my point is, it's easy to list the reasons why we won't. There is evidence to support the logic. There's not much actual evidence to support a logical reason as to why we might. Especially considering your requirements for logical.

Does a logical reason exist that would satisfy you?

As far as the bold goes, why does it matter?

As far as people "bad-mouthing you", let me propose a scenario and you tell me if it's at least possible.

You are very fond of words like fantasy, delusional, ignorance etc. When referring to something you disagree with.
Do you believe it possible that people have given you actual responses why they feel differently, and that's how you responded to them. In calling people delusional because you disagree, may cause them to blow you off when the same subject comes up two days later?

I won't list all the reasons, I don't even agree with all, but I respect many people's opinions on here who are more confident than I.

He didn't only beat 1 he wasn't supposed to, we turned around and beat Georgia the next year. South Carolina may have been ranked over us two years in a row (?)
His first loss to Vandy wasn't just about us having marginally better talent, it was in an entirely new staff and a completely new system.

Blah blah blah and so on, like I said, I don't agree with all of them, but they're far from fantasy points. There is a certain amount of credence in each one they mention. And they try to explain but they're scoffed at, insulted and called Sheep, just as much as you feel insulted.

Didn't say it wasn't.

I certainly didn't mean to make it sound like you were

I'm really trying hard to let the Nega stuff go. Meaning, I'm trying not to let that kinda stuff influence my general opinion of anyone or an individual post. It ain't easy, and I sometimes fail, but Im trying. :)

Fair enough, what I'm saying is negative sure but is it not just calling it what it is rather than setting myself up for disappointment expecting Jones to do anything different

That's fine, for you. Like someone else has said "football is the most important non-important thing to me". Or something like that.

Even though I don't care for disappointment, I can handle it. Being excited about Tennessee football is something I enjoy very much. There will always be disappointments, not just in football, but if I didn't have some kind of hope, I'd be miserable.

I very much agree. Heartache is involved in following 90% of sports teams on the planet, that's just part of liking sports.

To follow teams and never be excited or try to believe in improvement, seems a pointless endeavor TO ME. JMO

But I follow UT, not the coach. If he fails and they ditch him, I will root for the team no matter who the next coach is.

After 60 plus years of watching and being a Vol fan, all these guys on here that can tell the future are kind of funny. No one knows which player will turn out to be a 3 star playing like a 5 star. When the season plays out then we will all know.:)

Thank you! I agree totally.
Anyone that has watched our Vols play football for a long time knows anything can happen whether it's good or bad. So many things happen during a course of a season there is no way to know for sure. All I can do is cheer them on and support them while they are at this great university. I go into a season hoping, not expecting.
Go Big Orange!!! I hope this year is better than the last!

Why'd you have to go say it better than I did?:)

I just don't get the "end of the world" type mentality.

I thought you did better, you hit on the main thing. It's just football.
We will go back up with this coach or the next.

Recruiting class needs to be better because the people we play are better. It is however a top 20 class. Not 73rd or 102nd or any of the things you would think reading posts.

I don't love mediocrity, just because I refuse to yell at my computer monitor and say hateful things. Turns out that doesn't change a damn thing that's going to happen next year.

So far we haven't lost one game this year, so go Vols.

Grammar is your friend. Just saying. :)

We will go 8 and 4 and beat a over rated little 10 school again and the hype will be for the 18 season when we will go 9 and 3 we are a 8 or a 9 win football program in a decent year one more time take Phil 15 year run out and we are a top 20 team not top 10 we wont for some reason spent the money on all of the coaches not just the head coach, iknow we got the best coaching staff in the country thats what we have been told just some how it doesnt show up on Saturday's.:thud:

Punctuation is your friend...

I'd say Butch will never be a 10 win guy at Tennessee before I would say that but it's just my opinion

Butch isn't a 10 win kinda guy, he's a TOP 10 kinda guy. Seriously, how many weeks were we or could we have been in the top 10 last season?? Hasn't been that kinda talk round here in a while, which leads me to my point..

WE BACK BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very well said...

I think for some of us, our optimism is overshadowed by Butch's history to underwhelm. However, I never thought Mike Mularkey could take the Titans to brink of the playoffs last year....nobody did.

8-4, 9-3 is completely out of the question.

No its not, i try to be realistic, not dumb just for the sake of being dumb. My post is more than logic. 4 losses is possible is probably the absolute best we will do, but its not out of the question.

Hiring new D.C., OC, SC, DB coach, breaking in new QB for first time in 4 years....

I wouldn't call that doing the same thing over and over

Fans saying this year is our year is the same thing EVERY year, which is what i was referring to.

But on the coaching hires, yeahs its the same. CBJ has made changes to the BSIA every year.

Ok, I'll play along with a lot of breaks and luck Tennessee can get there

I would agree that there's a ceiling or barrier that Butch hasn't broken through but I do believe he's made changes in an attempt to get better. The one constant has been the offensive scheme. But I believe the offensive has been pretty damn effective. Defense and Strength/Conditioning scream for the most attention. He made an attempt to rectify those things. You can hate the guy but he has made efforts to put this team in a better position to compete.
