Let The 2017 Hype Begin

I am not sure where this saying came from but it drives me nuts due to it being wildly inaccurate.

Definition of insanity
plural insanities
1
dated : a severely disordered state of the mind usually occurring as a specific disorder
2
law : unsoundness of mind or lack of the ability to understand that prevents one from having the mental capacity required by law to enter into a particular relationship, status, or transaction or that releases one from criminal or civil responsibility

It's funny. Like a lot of "great quotes", the meaning sounds good SOME times and not others. Take the same situation ... here I'm assuming the narrative is "UT underachieved every yr w Jones", so insanity it keeping Jones and expecting a big season = insanity.

Now go apply another equally popular saying to that same premise. One such as "Thomas Edison tried 10,000 times to create a light bulb unsuccessfully. Yet he refused to quit, and the rest is history". Or, how about "It's always darkest just before the dawn".

Hehe. I guess it's a matter of "glass 1/2 full or 1/2 empty"

I was equating it to what you see on this board about the football team. We honestly had people on here talking about still making the playoffs after the USC loss. I don't visit the recruiting forum because I don't really care a lot about recruiting but if its anything like this board, its a bunch of nonsense.

My other issue is that right now recruiting isn't really going to help anything. This staff has yet to prove that it can develop the talent as a team to be considered elite or even great. We have had several 5 star recruits in the last five years and its has produced a mediocre football team thus far and several of the 5 star guys have yet to live up to the potential.

Yea, it just seems to me anytime you disagree with something, it's "nonsense" or "fantasy". I don't always disagree with you by the way, in fact, I agree more often than not, I just usually give you a hard time for your condescension.:)

As far as "this staff has yet to prove"....I get what you're saying, but just speaking optimistically, it's not the same staff. No what I mean, Vern?

The hype started after the clock ticked 0.00 at the end of the music city bowl

Those turd bombs we dropped against S Car and Vandy got me off the hype train. It's gonna take more than beating another "can o corn" Big 10 team to get me back on it.

Just curious why you ask?

I don't really have it settled in my mind how things would play out with a new AD and the mood of the fan base which appears to be all over the place. I think the admin would be happy with 8-4 every year which would keep butts in the seats while dangling the carrot of a bright future. However, if things go sideways it will be torches and pitchforks amongst Volnation. What will be the course of action. For example, if we lose to GT in the opener? Can you imagine the carnage?

It had nothing to do with Jones, it has to fans overhyping the team......like they do every year.

Aside from you, what i normally get in reply is a bunch of bad mouthing me. What i rarely get is a logical reason to believe that Tennesssee will win the East, overachieve, win games they shouldnt etc, which is why i refer to it as a fantasy land. If people want to bad mouth me, thats fine, it does nothing to address the issue that we all have seen and most likely will continue to see.

Can you? Haha. Seriously, I can, but it'll probably be worse.

As far as the rest of your post, I have no clue either. I can't say the actual record will be my deciding factor on whether I want Butch gone or not. For me, it's whether he wins the East or not. I honestly don't care what the record is.

I'm not following.

If the people in the recruiting forum, or any forum for that matter, are talking good about something or someone, where are they getting thier info to form thier opinion? Just making it up?

If reading a recruiting forum proves nothing, why have one? I guess if you're only interested in your own opinion, I do follow.

I talk good. I have all the best words and I only want to hear my opinion.

I'm thinking of going into politics.:)

Agreed.

Would any of those 3 outcomes get Butch fired?

7-5 gets him at minimum another year depending on the guidelines set by the new AD

6-6 gets him a year to see if Jones can pull a Jones and get a 7-5, 8-4, 9-3 etc

5-7 and he has to be out IMO. I don't think in any way or fashion they are this bad but with Jones' ability to drop 1 or 2 he shouldn't it's not out of the question

There is the problem: a lot of folks, and many on this board think GT will be a cake walk.

With the way we tackle if Tennessee misses once it's at minimum a huge gain. Then take into consideration the injuries on D.

Tennessee needs to go in and knock them out early otherwise it'll be a long day for the Vols

Better answer, IMO. Who the hell knows?

That's what's great about college football every year start over. It's obvious over the last several years that our position coaching hasn't done the job. Any changes in position staff have to be positive, they can't be any worse. Game day results indicate how the entire staff is performing not just Butch. We have enough talent to have a good season. Good enough to win the east, if the position coaching is good and S&C improves. We were very soft last year. In 2018 UGA will be tough. UF is headed down based on recruiting. SC? We need a good 2017 to recruit in the top 5, or we will be fighting for 2nd in the east.

Agreed, I get that a lot of folks consider me negative but at this point it's were i stand.

The schedule may not have death row on it nxt season but it's still very tough even with Tech opening

I'd be very interested to know what the new AD has for stipulations and guidelines for Jones

This isn't gonna be well liked but we downgraded from Debord Scott may be the guy but it's unfair to expect him to pick up and run it without missing

On the if ita not logical to me its fantasy, no thats not what i mean. What i mean is when you refute something, the responses back are just badmouthing me, no arguments to the contrary.

Logic to me is that Tennessee will go 7-5/6-6 (not including bowl.
I base it on the following logic.
1. CBJ lead teams rarely if ever beat a team with more all around talent. So that should mean loses to: Florida, Alabama, LSU and possibly UGA.
2. Of the teams we beat last year we return the least meaningful talent. Florida may be the exception.
3. CBJ lead teams have show a tendency to lose a game or two they shouldnt. (GT, USC, UK, VANDY) Take your pick of those four and its more likely than not that we will lose 1-2.
4. Gimme games: ISU, UMass, SM, Mizzu. (Not sure how anyone can call USC or Vandy a gimme game, as is often done on this board, when we lost to them the last time we played.

So with four gimme games and 2-3 more wins 7-5, 6-6 seems to me the most logic scenerios.

I can see some logic in 8-4, maybe 9-3 for the very optomisitc. Anyone going above that appears to me are just trying to hype themselves up to actually think that they believe it.

I think it's a fair question especially the 5-7

Didn't say it wasn't.

I'm really trying hard to let the Nega stuff go. Meaning, I'm trying not to let that kinda stuff influence my general opinion of anyone or an individual post. It ain't easy, and I sometimes fail, but Im trying. :)
