Leaving the SEC

Who would be in favor of leaving the SEC and joining a weaker conference so Tennessee could compete again? Think about it...we’d have a chance to win and be happy again. Tennessee will not compete in the SEC for the next 20 years. Hasn’t been to Atlanta in 13 years. Hasn’t won a conference championship in 23 years. I think it’s time to move. Who’s in favor?

Nobody willingly elects to be the tallest midget.

That would be the worst decision that our administration would ever make! Worse than hiring Derek Dooley and worse than appointing Fulmer as AD.

No.

See Georgia Tech and Tulane.

Leaving the SEC means easier schedules. It also means much less money. So even if our record might improve in a weaker conference, our odds of winning a national title would decline significantly.

That's what's really crazy about our past decade. From a fundamentals perspective, this is actually the easiest time to win a national title as a coach at Tennessee. The SEC has the biggest money advantage. Recruiting in Tennessee is worlds ahead of where it it was in the 80s and 90s. And yet, somehow, this has been our worst decade since before Neyland took over in the 1920s.

To change the topic to be serious, I am in favor of ending the annual rivalry with Alabama right now. Perhaps replace them with Arkansas or Ole Miss.
