Kevin Sumlin

Kevin Sumlin sucks. Have y'all forgotten about his November record? He hasn't beaten an SEC West opponent in over 2 years at home. Case Keenum and Johnny Manziel made Kevin Sumlin. What has he done since Johnny left? Oh yeah, nothing.

He does less with more than any coach out there. A&M has the best facilities. Unlimited $$ (paid Chief 1.7 million this year as DC). Major recruiting base (Dallas, Houston, etc). And what has he done with it? Give up a 34 point lead to a mediocre UCLA team. Suck every November when it matters. Squander 1st round NFL talent. Basically, he's the Butch Jones of the West. Oh yeah, y'all just fired that guy.

He'll go to ASU or somewhere like that where 7-5 or 8-4 is fine. He'd do the same at UT; it's what he is - A Conference USA coach running a Big 12 style offense and defense in a big boy conference. It doesn't work.

I'd love this hire. He took A&M to heights they had never been before. It's why his firing is so... baffling to me. That school is straight up strange on all fronts... and he was able to still recruit well and do decently well in a once in a lifetime era of a division where nearly every team was top 10... hell top 5. Yes, he bungled the QB situation post Manzel, but holy crap, I don't think anyone could have done that right, considering Manzel set an extremely high bar. They were more than decent this year, considering the attrition to their roster. He may not light the world on fire but he'll sure keep it smoldering. But honestly, Tennessee is a win 10-11 games or get out place, and I'm sure he's going to look at Arizona State, where 8-9 win seasons will land the dude a statue and a road named after him. Unless they snag Mason instead, I believe that's where Sumlin is headed. Too bad because I personally love high octane offenses, and do have shared Boiler roots with the guy.

Its not baffling if you understand SEC football especially SEC West football. They are trying to play Texas High School football in the SEC West... which is why he losses in November.

TAM fans finally figured it out.

Texas A/M fan base is more delusional than ours. He couldn't succeed there with their expectations, why would he be able to handle ours??

But for some reason he is appealing:eek:hmy:

Honestly the thing that scares me the most is that he'd have to deal with the racist BS from 1 or 2 dumb rednecks that he had to deal with at A&M. Especially after a few losses. Real shame that we even have to mention that in 2017.

Why even bring it up? It’s a non issue.

No he took a very middling program that is historically bad, that plays 3rd and 4th fiddle to nearly every other university in Texas, including the powerhouses of Baylor and TCU, and made them nationally prevalent, and managed to beat Alabama with that high school offense. A&M is a nuthouse in every sense of the word, it's amazing he was able to recruit what he did in the first place.

Not dogging TCU, but that's the thing... they are the 3rd best university to play for in Texas, and were the 4th until Baylor crapped the bed with their culture of rapists and enablers. Hell, Houston would give them a run for their money...

The guy is a big time alcoholic according to A&M fans for years. Why in the hell would we want that?

He beat Alabama with Johnny and solid left overs from the prior coach that actually knew how to play real football. Sure it will work some against non-top 25 defenses, not going to work generally in the West and against top 25 defenses. Very easy to scheme for, I'm sorry he is leaving.... automatic W in the column.

He will have an easier time in the East but its crap football.... I'm sorry to see him go. :)

If he was such a good coach they would be second fiddle to only Texas.

The number of days since Texas A&M won a game against a SEC West opponent at home. :)

8
The number of SEC West victories against SEC West opponents in the last 4 years.

5
The average number of six packs Sumlin consumes on a daily basis.

I like the guy, he is very likable, he seems like a great cat to hang out with, but very sorry to see him leave Texas A&M.... the annual career stat day is no longer on LSU's schedule.

Oh one more.

58
The number of days Texas A&M has to pay in FULL Sumlins buyout of $10m which is non-refundable.

His biggest mistake is Chavis.

I don't think that guy has ever met a lead he couldn't choke away.

You got it the wrong way. Chavis biggest mistake was thinking it was going to work with Sumlin playing flag football.

TAM's defense is a direct symptom of the piss poor offensive scheme - flag football. Generally, its very easy for the West teams to defend against.... very short film day. Sumlin was playing flag football, the rest of the West was playing real football.

Generally, that is not going to work against the top 3-4 defenses in the SEC West, maybe further out West.... like West coast... maybe. :) Imo, the two worst football teams in the SEC still remain Missouri and Texas A&M... they don't play football at all.

The perception is that Sumlin gives the better defenses like say Alabama or LSU trouble, but even when LSU sucks its really not close games... although there have been a few closer ones... but usually if you watch the games TAM is getting dominated up front.

For instance... against Alabama he is 1-5, against LSU 0-6... I would say they are more like scrimmage games.

I cannot believe he is not being talked about more. He would be the first guy I would’ve called after the Schiano debacle. I really would be happy with Coach Sumlin.

Sadly I can easily believe it.

LOL same thing could be said about Gundy’s style of football. Sumlin is better fit for the Big XII, but I think he’s a good coach who could do great things at the flagship state institutions where he’s not playing 2nd fiddle to Texas. While Gundy was 2-10 vs Big Game Bob and Oklahoma.
