Just looking through the Fire Pruitt....

if we finish 5-3 in the SEC this year, that’s a 3 game improvement over last year, Pruitt’s first. Anyone in the off season would have gladly taken that 3 game improvement and we are on pace for that.

Sure Georgia State happened but more good things have happened because of that loss than not. There’s been a major culture and development shift on this team and I doubt half the people getting regular playing time and the ones who quit aren’t in the same situation if we opened 3-0 and sit at 7-3 now.

If Pruitt finishes off this season with 7 or 8 wins and goes on to win 9-10 next year, i will look back at the Georgia State loss and always believe it made the program and coaching staff better. You don’t lose to Georgia State and then go toe to toe with Alabama a month later doing to same ole stuff. Kudos to Pruitt. He has done a great job of not giving up and mailing it in.

Of course anyone with a level head knew they couldn’t judge a season’s record based on one game. Those people are idiots.
You are so right, you can't judge a season's record based on one game, you must judge a seasons record, based on the Season's record, Ws and Ls. Some people choose that part of the record they want to judge a full season's record by, and as you say they are idiots (of the highest order)!!

I love seeing people regurgitate this silly example or argument that it was a bonehead coaching decision that Kamara wasn’t starting because Hurd was just another running back.

Hurd was on pace to absolutely destroy the all time rushing record at Tennessee. Secondly, there weren’t any major losses in that 18-8 run that truly fell on Hurd or the running backs. So somehow putting in Kamara would have resulted in less losses is downright silly.

Butch had too many weapons at running back. But to say and act like Tennessee was starting a scrub who didn’t produce over Kamara is just dumb.

Hurd progressed on the list through sheer number of games played. He was the starter as a freshmen, and compiled his yards by not being good enough to go pro his junior year. He took 45 games to amass his yards and get to #6 on the all time list. #5 got his yards in 27 games.

Hurd averaged 4.5 ypc. Kamara averaged 6.2 ypc. Kamara went pro after his junior year, because the NFL knew how good he was. Butch didn't.

Additionally, in 2016, while Hurd was the starter, the team averaged 29 points/game. After Hurd transferred post-South Carolina, while Kamara was the starter, the team averaged 48 points/game.
While Hurd was the starter, the team averaged 165 rushing yards/game. While Kamara was the starter, the team averaged 269 rushing yards per game.
So this may be a "silly" argument to you, but the numbers don't lie.

You failed to answer the basic question, but rather pumped, and pumped. The question is this, based on everything you have stated, you would have kept dooley as our HC for at least five full years-if not more. Or, are you glad we got rid of him when we did? For the Record, I was not for his hiring, and was glad when he was fired.
For the record, I was against firing Coach Fulmer, against the hiring of Kiffin, were you? This created the situation which forced the poor hires of Dooley and Jones. For the record, I said at the time we were hiring Dooley because of who his daddy was and it was a bad idea. Dooley was hired and fired by idiots, and Tennessee probably would have been better off with a couple more years under Dooley than under Jones. But we’re on the way up now.

So Hurd was a victim of his circumstances and merely any one could have put up the stats he did given his experience?

It’s amazing how many people think this. You don’t get on pace (thru 2+ seasons) to blow thru the all time rushing record by circumstance. The fact you think that’s the case is downright amazing and ignorant. But hey, anything to trash Hurd because he hurt your feelings, right?

And once again, name any of the 4 losses in 2016 that were due to the running back. Fact is there were more losses without Hurd than there were with. About those numbers right?

Hurd couldn't go pro before his Jr. season as you have to be out of HS 3 years before going pro.

So, you can justify anyone self identifying themselves as a fan selling out? All I need to know... fan performances should be treated as each individual treats players, coaches,, and admin folks.... There is a time and a place for discretion and class and you can't put the bullets back in the gun. Attempted coach murder can have it's permanent costs in the respect department by every other fan in the base, and you just have to live with it, that is real life risk. Trying to justify it after the fact just doubles down on the problem created.
I don't think you read the original post. But in fact I'll expand. Yes, fans are allowed to be irrational. That's the nature of being a fan, you are a spectator but have a rooting interest in the outcome of what you are watching. Losing to Ga State absolutely allowed fans to be upset but it's even bigger than that. Last year the team finished the season by going 0-2 when they only needed 1 win to get into a bowl. They got blasted by Mizzou at home and then got blasted by a terrible vandy team. So 0-4 in your last 4 games against unranked opponents is bad. I can't help if you cannot see that.

I live in Middle Tennessee. I cannot tell you how many kids I know whose parents are huge UT fans, yet their kids are walking around in bama gear? These are kids born, raised, and living in Tennessee who are in Tennessee homes and yet have chosen to instead root for an arch rival. Why? In the grand scheme of things does their fandom matter? No. But if you are a fan and want your team to succeed does it matter that kids in your home state are directly rooting for your biggest opponent? Absolutely. Why are they cheering for Bama? Because Bama wins. If UT's loss to GA State leads to a run like Bama has had since losing to ULM I'll take it, but Pruitt didn't have the resume that Saban did.

Last point, I'm not calling for Pruitt's head now, but I will be disapointed if we lose either of these last 2 games. These are 2 terrible teams. If we lose a close game to mizzou on the road I can live with that if we blow out vandy. If this team misses a bowl again, I think we are looking at Dooley 2.0.

I will have to say I like pruitt he's doing a good job he needs to be left alone for another 3 or 4 years. Look at stoops at Kentucky his recruiting classes aren't anywhere near ours but he gets the people that fits what he wants to do. Look a Mizzou there recruiting sucks but they get who fits there program and there he untilizied odum who was familiar with what was already going on. It takes continuity and time. Time that us as fans dont want to allow because we won a national title in 98 and we expect to have 100 more since then because we are TN. I love them just as much as the next person but I also understand that if you dont give someone long enough to build something it's never gonna get built. That is all........Go VOLS!!!!

I was against the firing of Fulmer, period. I was against the hiring of Dooley, and was Happy that he was fired. I would have fired him even sooner, had it been left up to me, but then, if I had that authority he would not have been hired to start with. The idea that we should have kept dooley a few more years, makes zero sense to me. If two or three more year of Dooley would have been good, they why not 4 or 5? the Logic is lost on me. His firing did not hurt the program as much as keeping him would have. Of course, this is just an opinion, what is not an opinion, is five years of boy butch (a nice long period) put us in the toilet, with that in mind, how can anyone say that keeping a crap coach is better than firing him?

I am not saying that a coach that is not working out should be kept indefinitely, but keeping a coach a little too long is better than a quick trigger and a hasty hire by people who don’t know what they’re doing.
I was real worried during the last coaching search, but the Good Lord was with us and it was bungled so badly that the house got cleaned and football people ended up in charge again. The last thing we need to do is start that vicious cycle again by firing the coach after a year or two. CPF won't let that happen.

He had almost 4 entire seasons as the starter (45 games.) His production was serviceable. If you compare him to the names above him and below him on the list, it's laughable.

#1: Travis Henry. 33 games as a starter, 3,078 yards, 5.5 avg.
#2: Arian Foster. 47 games as a starter, 2,964 yards, 4.6 avg.
#3: James Stewart. 44 games as a starter, 2,890 yards, 5.4 avg.
#4: Johnnie Jones. 33 games as a starter, 2,852 yards, 5.5 avg.
#5: Jamal Lewis. 27 games as a starter, 2,677 yards, 5.5 avg.
#6: Jalen Hurd. 45 games as a starter, 2,638 yards, 4.5 avg. (And got worse every year since his freshman year.)

Second, jesus h christ do I need to fact check you? The vols in 2016 were 5-3 with Hurd on the team. They were 4-1 without him. Jaysus.

Some fact check you have there.......

Hurd played 1.5 games (Bama and South Carolina) that we lost. He didn't play in Vandy or A&M and the second half of the USC game.......

Kamara played in all 4........ (A&M, Bama, South Carolina, and Vandy).......

Also Hurd only played in 33 games at Tennessee prior to the South Carolina game when his career at Tennessee was over.... Where are you getting 45 games from? You drunk bro?

And once again, you are simply saying that Hurd was a "victim of circumstance" as to why he was on pace to break the rushing record by a long shot...... You clearly don't understand football if you think someone can just do that because of the circumstances only and not talent......

Its clear that Hurd hurt your feelings and you can't let go.

Also he didn't get worse every year.

Freshmen Year - 899 Yards
Sophomore Year - 1,285 Yards
Junior Year - 451 Yards

66% of his rushing yards at Tennessee came after his freshmen year..... Geez you really are not smart at this.

And since you want to bring up 45 games, he didn't play running back in his last 12.....

"So, duuuurr, I'm using 12 games, duuuur, to make a point, duuuur, even though Hurd, duuuur, didn't even play running back in those 12, duuuuur." ---- @Thunndarr

But hey, those are facts and we all know that you love facts....

Keeping a coach "A little too long" is subjective, your "Little to long" and mine maybe (and ARE) quite different. Regarding "A Hasty hire by people that don't know they are doing", is the problem, who do you think hired the crap coach you'd rather "Keep a little too long"???? To be clear, I was not happy with the Dooley hire, I was glad when he was fired, I think it (the firing) was not soon enough, I would not have kept him for another few years, just because I think that a HC should be given 4-5 years, no matter how much damage he does to the team. Again, sometimes a quick firing, is the cure for a quick hire, and sometimes a firing, regardless of how many years a coach has been around is a cure, arbitrary periods of hire are silly at a school like UT-we should not be a training camp for HC's, we should be winning the SEC, every year-a powerhouse that all others fear to play. Once again you have failed to answer one basic question: Would you have kept dooley for a full five years????Yes or No. It is a simple question.

I answered your question, I would have kept Dooley over hiring Jones. It would have expedited our recovery.

I guess this isn't a yes or no type question, so I will assume, as we kept boy butch for 5 years-you would have kept Dooley another five years. I don't think this would have "expedited our recovery", in fact, I believe this would have put the last nail in our coffin-we'd be another Arkansas in the SEC. But thanks for the well thought out answer, I admire your ability not to answer yes or no to a yes or no question-I see politics in your future-maybe a few years in Washington, God Bless.

We are improving, i will gladly admit that. But for people to act like pruitt is the next Neyland is ridiculous.
You hit the nail on the head! And yes, we do have far too many suffering from "Coach Worship", they'll be passing a petition around to rename Neyland to Neyland-Pruitt before long, without even two full seasons behind him! Sad.

He ain’t even bowl eligible yet. oh, had he not f’d up the beginning of the season they would be, and could be on pace for an epic turnaround.
Yes sir! And if he hadn't lost those other games we lost we'd be playing for a NATY-but there is next season-look out, clear a space in the trophy cabinet-we'll be adding another NATY, not to mention some new paint for Neyland!
