Jumbotron Update

I just finished putting the jumbotron for the gwinnett braves together. I was working for daktronics (same company that built godzilla tron.) I do know that they were in negotiation to do UT's board. If this is true Daktronics didn't get the bid but i don't think this is a rumor. Daktronics was to hear about bid rewards before 4/1/09. So this news makes a lot of sense.

Do you know the size/details of the jumbotron daktronics was proposing?

ok whats your inside information that I dont have? oh ok none. I was simply saying that just because we are replacing the board does not mean that we are getting some giant one. All we know for a fact is that we are getting it replaced becasue they dont make parts for the old one. So why dont you quit being a jackass and acting like an expert when you dont know any more than we do

Jeeze, the guy obviously has a source. Settle... BTW didn't your source say BB wasn't coming to UT? Just saying...

Absolutely....Why keep several thousands, who pay the same prices for tickets, from seeing what the majority are seeing? Spend the money and put a second one up on the south end!!!! Of course, realistically, that will never happen.....

I'm no engineer, but I doubt it's feasible for a jumbotron to be built on the north side without tearing down or altering Alumni Gym, which has been restored as of the last 7 or so years. There was a small outcry anyway when the north deck was built and Ayres was no longer (generally) visable from the inside of Neyland, so there would probably be much of the same if another jumbotron was built. Plus there's the whole budget crisis thing.

No I neverhad a BB source or said he was or wasnt coming you must be thinking of someone else. I just makes me mad when people disagree and are rude with out saying why they disagree, if they can give information to prove me wrong fine by me, i'll admit it. its just those kind of comments that make me mad.

So are you saying the whole thing is a rumor?

He's just saying it's not really plausible for a huge jumbotron to be added. With the school already in debt that is.

But. the thing is, investing a few million or so in the Universities most profitable department is not really something wrong or bad. Especially when it is being paid for by donor money. If this is built all from donations there is really nothing they can do about it anyways.

The athletic department is run completely separate from the school, therefore, the school being in the debt that it is in, has absolutely nothing to do with this argument. Tennessee's athletic department is one of only about a dozen or less that are actually profitable.

Mississippi State has a pretty big jumbotron now as well. A Miss State fan buddy of mine who lives down there said it was going by the "Mississippi Way" of putting a big screen TV in a mobile home. I guess you gotta have a sense of humor if you are a state fan.

I totally understand how the AD works and is funded, but you're completely fooling yourself if you think how they spend their money isn't justifiably scruntinized by the academic side.

What I was saying for all the ones who didn't read what I quoted was that it's unlikely that the AD would not only spend millions for a SECOND jumbotron considering the overall economic state of the U, but also alter or tear down a building that not only hold sentimental value but also was just renovated.

I know that the one we are getting won't be the same size - ours has been one of the smaller ones and we're not going to get some cheap-o one that is the exact same size. Ours is really small.
